As Danny's niece, I am so pleased to see what a following he has. If you want to hear his very early stuff, look for "The Legends". Find the track "High Towers". I think it has to be my favorite. Danny, if I am not mistaken, was only 15 or 16 when he sang it.
Hello, I don't know if you check CZcams or comments anymore, but I wanted to leave you a message. As a life long musician and music fan, Your Uncle Dan was such a talented bass player and songwriter. I always have thought the song he wrote on the Edgar Winters Group album Shock Treatment "Sundow" is the best song he ever wrote. It flows perfectly and ends with crickets chirping indicating sundown. I have no idea why it wasn't released as a single. I hope this isn't too long or boring for you, I just admire your uncle SO much as an extremely talented man who left too soon but left a fantastic body of work.
Terry, you're a HERO. As a 42 year old in 2019, I've often lamented the loss of heart and soul in today's autotuned landscape. Then I realized, I was born in 1977, and tons of great music came out before that year - I just needed to know where to look. I shall look up The Legends immediately.
I was there. He sang it identical to the recording. He had pipes. Singing "stars" today don't have the guts to sing live. Sad ending to his life... too young to go.
@@jillodice7849 I'm sorry, no offense meant. I'm in awe that you lived next door to him. My previous post..he left us too young. I'm 63, I miss those days. We would have so much more great music from him. His early death is heartbreaking. I come back to listen to him. Marianne
Dan was around for many years. In the 60's he played bass with the Edgar Winter Band. And in the 70's he had two disco hits "Instant Replay" and "Relight My Fire" but still there were many people who didn't know who he was till "I Can Dream About You". He was so talented. RIP Dan.
I Can Dream About You and Free Ride are two of my all time favorite songs. Saw Dan play with Edgar Winter Super Group in the early 70's (with Bad Company as warm up act). One of the best concerts I attended. Awesome to see these videos from the 70's and 80's Take care and keep well Mike

Dan didn't start playing with The Edgar Winter Group until around 1972. He was in a local band in Harrisburg Pa, called The Legends in the mid 60's until he joined The Edgar Winter Group. I still have their 45 Rock and Roll Woman
Terry, your Uncle Dan was one of a kind artist who drew fans of various colors! I love this song so much, I relate to it 100% I will never forget Dan and his music. Thanks. P.S I used to root for the Phillies as a kid! 😉

I love that just after he was dancing around his band, before he starting singing again he laughed! Such joy. I was a great disco dancer, he makes me wish I could still dance my ass to the floor and back up as I used to.
Now THIS is Dan Hartman! LIVE AND RAW! He is so much better when he's not lip-synching like he did during American Bandstand and Soul Train. Amazing! RIP.
El extraordinario músico, compositor y cantante Dan Hartman, aún lo recuerdo con Edgar Winter cantando "Free ride", para luego brillar con su propia luz dándonos tantas canciones maravillosas y bailables
This song is everything about good song writing. Dan was a master at writing, producing and arranging and this great piece of music shows it. I must agree with zendensque, a talent like Dan is irreplaceable and will be missed by those who appreciate the music of that time like I (and many others), did. I was in college at that time and this song has stuck with me ever since. We miss ya Dan...
Yes in fact, he did the lead vocals on "Free Ride" and co-wrote or wrote most of the stuff on Edgar Winter's album that had Frankenstein on it. He was a very talented guy.
So sad he died so young.....from AIDS.....we can thank Ronnie Reagan for that you know as well as all the straight people who hated on Gay men and let them to die for that one minor fact regardless of who they were as individual human souls.....so that an incredibly talented man like this was lost to us. Great voice and this was back with Letterman's original World's Most Dangerous Band (my preferred version especially with Jordan on drums and Bullock on guitar). It was a surprise to find out this soulful singer was white (especially in the move "Streets of Fire" which had a Temptations-like group miming to the song)!
