I live in a mobile home quite happily and stress free. All paid for and own my land and the property taxes each year are what many would spend on a nice dinner out. Those pesky hurricanes show up once in a while but I don't have to shovel snow!
the husband has remorse written all over his face for half of this episode, I'm shocked the host didn't bring up the fact that they used the wrong nails to fasten the wood cladding on the exterior of the house.
this man had a brush with death, and instead of spending his new lease on life relaxing with his family and having fun, he decides to take on probably one of the most stressful projects that one can. It doesn’t really make any sense; I would’ve spent the money on a 6 month vacation to the Maldives, but that’s just me.
2 principles ignored by him: “For example, who of you wanting to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the expense to see if he has enough to complete it?” And then, “I came to hate all that I had worked so hard for under the sun, because I must leave it behind for the man coming after me. 19 And who knows whether he will be wise or foolish? Yet he will take control over all the things I spent great effort and wisdom to acquire under the sun. This too is futility.”
That's a bloody steal especially since the value probably went thru the roof during COVID... London money people have no sense. Architect specced too much labor intensive stuff and owner should've penny pinched here and there. Oh yeah, and the house was too damned big in the first place.
They really missed a trick in not using smart glass in the TV room. To be able to go from frosted walls to panoramic views at the flick of a switch would have been wonderful.
That thing wasn't a dream house. It was a nightmare and I'm sure they regret it all since they sold for a big loss in 2019 - interest payments must have been eating them alive.
Far too much house. It seems more for show than any think else. Nice location but not a particularly cozy family home. Yet, it is their dream home, debt and all. Hopefully, Brahm stays healthy for the duration.
It’s nice to dream, but you need to come down to reality and pay for it! They should’ve eliminated the swimming pool, swim in ocean! The architect is over the top…
My husband almost died, so now that he isn't. I'm going to make him go bankrupt building me a "footballers' wife" house. This is one of the episodes of this show that makes you cringe.
Lincoln- their Architect, ….dreams of another client like this couple. 2 people (or rather, one who seems to be taking the other along for a ride,) who have clearly stated they are using a personal tragedy to justify their garish behemoth. I enjoy the creativity and invention produced in these episodes and this couple is absolutely and completely entitled to have as many mortgages as they possibly can get to invent their own creation. Who doesn’t love a ‘they nearly died so now they are truly enjoying living story’ but…. at what cost!? I found this episode of ….’pissing money into the wind because you only live once’ sooooo hard to watch. It’s so hard for me to watch a “look at me” project like this one. It’s ironic that they’re building a massive space to entertain people ……he is an accountant! Haha reminds me of the joke…”what does an accountant use as a prophylactic? …….their personality!!!
This is the dumbest planning and budgeting I have ever seen in my professional life! A tax accountant no less is the owner. 3 million not including the land cost in a country in financial decline. Good luck keeping it. Oh fun fact ... The nails used on the wood cladding is leaching rust already
Most of us would rather living in a "shack" stress free, than in our "Dream house" and not being able to afford it.

@@bjbrown I live in a glorified double wide (on my own land). It's cold but we don't have hurricanes. I am also stress free.

All I could think was, "all that glass...who is cleaning all that glass?" Beautiful home. Wishing the family a wonderful future. Thanks for sharing.
Insane!
Agreed

Sold for 2.74Million in Dec 2019
Waterfront. And they lost $500K
Really? $3M+ with the land, stress of building, struggle to pay the bills, live there for 5 years, then lose money from the sale.
@@RLU-wt8vi Really. Run a search. Daily Mail had an article on it....a few other outlets too. Found the sold listing on the RightMove real estate site

Yikes
I guess you can say is it amazing to be in debt.

This house was not for them to live in, but to sell it!
They lost 500k on the sale.
lol. It will always cost more than you think and unless you have it already in the bank, don't be insane.
good rule of thumb is always add 50% to the anticipated budget
'It does bring us joy and that adds to our quality of life.' It darn well better had for that kind of money!
I love that house! My last name is White, it would be perfect.
In the end they built the dream house and then lost a huge sum of money and the house. I wonder where they are now?
They didn't lose it because they never had it. 😂

Where do i recognise Lincoln from! He looks so familiar!🤔
Not that great of an accountant if he can’t even properly create a budget for himself

Sad. I’d rather see some people with a limited budget trying to pay the least to try and build their dream than some tasteless monstrosity like this.

it was the husband driving the size of the home, not the wife.
There is another Grand Designs where the people had grandiose ideas and no grip on reality. Ended in divorce and house foreclosed.
To be fair, they are exactly the people GD loves to film. Train wrecks.
ego/delusions get in the way of reality. A home half the size would have been very spacious and welcoming for the family.
