The problem playing a 532 like we did is the pocket between LWB and LCM and RWB RCM can get exposed as you have nothing Infront of the wing backs as we played 2 strikers.
Should have played a 523 (541) with gordan left almiron right and the can tuck in and cover.

The most obvious problem we have is that we do not have a decent large squad. How many players do we still have who would be more suited in the Championship . We started the season with a decent 15 man squad but with only 1 main striker.
Before kick off the majority of fans were expecting the triple cup winners, Whose squad of 25 strong could get into any other team in Europe never mind their national sides-to put at least 5 past a weak injury riddled squad but we ended up by losing by a deflection and an og and yet those same fans shout shite , Eddie out blah blah blah . Despite the problems on and off the pitch we still have 40 points on the board. Come the summer there will be changes.

We should have sold more players to the Saudi league but didn’t because it would have looked bad but that didn’t stop the like of Liverpool . We started the season with a decent squad of 15 but with only one striker . A good showing in the CL but injuries soon weakened that decent squad and reduced us to having players either playing through injury or sitting on the bench with injuries so weak is the squad. Even those clubs above us in the league would have suffered this season if they had had the injuries we endured. The top three could have coped but they can because they’ve got strong full squads where most of their players would get into the present top six sides if not their national teams.

Too many games, too many issues, too small a squad, just 13:00 t too much for the team. You also added the intensity the team plays at under Eddie and his lack of experience managing or playing in Europe added to an already impossible task. I would also add unfair FFP rules will continue to weigh heavily upon us.

I’m not sure playing Burn up against Kyle Walker is particularly clever. He’s one of the quickest players in the PL. How many times has Howe played DB against quick wingers this season? Been quite a few occasions now. Like I say, nothing learned.

  • @deanc6664

The main problem defensively has been mid-field injuries on the left hand side, missing Willock and Joelinton has caused too many gaps and it's been exploited for months. Willock had a bad game but he's also not long back from injury, same with Isak. They are not fully match-fit yet. Playing against Man City in the middle of the park while not 100% yet is a tough ask. Burn gets a lot of stick this season but he's had a lot less support, more gaps and instead of holding back allowing Bruno to go forward, he's been pushing down the left leaving exposure at the back with Bruno also going forward. I don't think swapping to 5 at the back was the right idea, swapping to a less comfortable tactic that's been tried a few times mainly in pre-season with little success created even more gaps and some didn't look comfortable with it. Willock included who's been injured all pre-season and most of the season and not trained with that tactic much... but I feel like that was a forced choice without Tino and Tripps.

Both goals were the fault of Willock massively and the lack of urgency to close down people and get stuck in. We were pathetic, 2 shots, 28% possession. Miggy put Isak in and he fluffed it. The robot striker had a great shot that sailed desperately wide( would have preferred that to deflected goals). Sean Longstaff was awful. 19 touches, 13 passes overall 3 of which he misplaced. Lost the ball 6 times and only put 1 cross in which went for the corner. Miley had 14 touches, completed 13 passes with 100% accuracy and did not lose the ball all in 30 minutes. Miley should start ahead of Longstaff. Hall should start at LB and BDB either play CB or take a holiday on the bench. Eddie just plays the same personnel and expects a miracle.
He was not forced to play the lads at Wolves away and Bournemouth away during the UCL group stage. He could have played the youngsters, Ritchie, Dummet and Krafth to give the regulars a break. He run this team into the ground. Maybe hindsight is 20/20 but he should have played the youngsters who were promising during pre-season and utilized the squad much better.

Then he'll know exactly what they'll work on.
