It’s all really metaphorical for Jane slowly letting go of the rigid trappings of her upper class Victorian society as she slowly falls in love with Tarzan. Her dress much like her society is confining her and her movements are awkward while wearing them at first. And her clothes get simpler and simpler throughout the film as she spends more time with Tarzan…and we start to see Jane loosen up and become more free (like her moment on the vines with Tarzan) until the very end when she chooses to stay with him and she’s wearing her own jungle equivalent of Tarzan’s loincloth and has mastered the art of tree surfing and can now keep up with him ❤
I believe Tarzan was set in the Victorian era in 1920s or possibly earlier given her dress is full length and she wears small heels. It’s silly to us but it was probably the attire for travelling or going on safari back in those days
