I did love the Radiohead reference though.
I worked in Geek Squad during their decline. I was one of the last agents to receive Apple's training which allowed me to work on their machines. Bottom line is the in store agents are not authorized to fix things anymore. I'm not saying the Apple training is the only way to learn to fix things, but it did help me. If you have the warranty, they'll send it to a repair center. If an agent offers to fix it in store, he is going rougue. If anything goes wrong, he'll get in trouble and the store will generally leave you high and dry.

iCarly did a very amusing parody that had been lost on me when it aired. Sam Puckett, the delinquent, stole Freddie Bensonâs job, because he was too honest and couldnât sell anything. Ironically Sam never showed up again after that.

I am glad to hear you performed the repair successfully. Good job on not toasting the CPU, and congratulations on getting something up and running again! It feels good to do it with your own hands, doesn't it?
*panic
It's a pc now
I SWEAR TO GOD YOU JINXED MY LAPTOP. You'l never guess what happened as soon as I reread your comment after seeing Fahad Zafar's spelling correction. The screen froze, Louis began repeating the words "ay have random shutdowns" on loop and the caps lock LED began blinking, for about 10 seconds. A stack trace appeared, and a few seconds later I saw the familiar Lenovo logo. I'm laughing way too hard right now for it being half past midnight. Actually I'm laughing harder then I have in a long time. Whatever have I done, I don't know, but karma was certainly activated at that moment.
Congrats on the fix, but that is one hell of a coincidence all three things aligned.
This was so satisfying to watch. I dont really know anything about these kinds of things , Im finding it informative

One of the reasons I feel silly for buying apple products.

As someone who worked at a Best Buy in the computer department and by proxy worked closely with Geek Squad, I know that it is a massive shit show to deal with Apple products, but I have never heard of bullshit on THIS level before.
I disagree, my customer service experience has always been this bad. My last purchase at BestBuy was for a head unit for my car. I bought a refurb unit. It arrived missing knobs and buttons, I know its a refurb but can they at least check to make sure it looks like the picture on the box? I figured no big deal, take it to the store and they say they'll take care of it. Refurbs aren't available so they exchange for a new unit. But it isn't in store so they have to order and have it delivered to my house. No big deal. A week goes by and I don't have anything. I try to check the status online and it keeps showing pending (or something to that effect). Check with online support and they say it happens sometimes, give it a day or two. Give it another week still nothing. Head to store. Frontline CS sees what I see and doesn't know what's going on. Cue talking to manager. 15 minutes later they figure out that it was discontinued and out of stock at the time of ordering but for some reason the order went through and got stuck. They offered to exchange for something else.
No thanks, I'll only take so many fuckups. The only reason I went is because I had a gift card, too many bad experiences in the past. I'll just go back to buying Netflix or Steam giftcards when someone gets me one, they spend too much time trying to sell me a phone instead of getting their shit straight.
My uncle bought a harddrive at BB as they had a great deal on a massive 512GB drive (yeah, it's been awhile :P ). He wanted to move the data from his 2 smaller drives on to the larger drive and still keep his 2 smaller drives as backup drives in the same machine. They told him it'd cost about $200 for the labor. Fortunately he mentioned it to my other uncle (his younger brother) and me before he went and did it. He watched us do the software move using an imaging software in the first 10mins, then we walked away.
He asked what was up. We said, now we wait, go eat lunch, watch some TV. It'll take about an hr to transfer. "That's it?" yup. He then realized he almost got screwed because they also said they'd have the machine for about a week to do the transfer.
There was a job opening for BB Geek Squad and several ppl said I should apply. I said Nope! I have better ethics than they do. I will not screw over a customer by over charging and under delivering
Now you've heard it.. lol đ€đ€Ł

@@saturn0660 you do realise that parts in themselves aren't always that costly right?
@@tok33n14 There's no way you can get a _fully working_ *4K* screen for 40$. It's like saying I bought a new i9 9900K for 100$. Not gonna happen.
EDIT: Cheapest 4K ThinkPad screen I found on eBay was for a T580 at 90$ which is still astonishingly cheap, but frankly at that price I wouldn't even trust it to ship in one piece.
Well 1080p screens at least cost $20-30 on Amazon. Replaced one on a Dell 15 before and had no issues, also found it looking better than OEM screen. And yeah didn't even need a tool and took 10 minutes including research. Also the 4k Lenovo screen replacement is $70 on Amazon, who knows the price fluctuations ;). I once attempted to apply to Best Buy to do computer repair. I was rejected. Best rejection I've ever received.
MalleusSemperVictor They reject you if your I.Q. is too high i.e. 85 or above.
they where scared to hire someone that knows how to fix a computer
@Michael Richter Oh, you're too kind.
A while ago my Dell laptop was experiencing the blue screen of death when inserting my SD card. I did everything possible update drivers, trying Linux to read SD card, updating the bios. Since I tried everything possible I took it to Best Buy and used my protection plan to get it fixed. They insisted that it was a virus even though I was running Linux and told my they will charge $100 on top of the $300 geek squad plan I paid when I bought the laptop. I insisted that it was a hardware problem and made multiple trips to the store trying to convince them to repair my laptop. At they end the agreed to send it to their repair center and if the computer was ok they would charge my $40 for shipping (wasting their time). When I got it back they replaced the motherboard ($400 part covered by insurance) and the computer ran normal. Geek Squad takes advantage of people. Back then I was around 13 years old and they thought they knew more than me. I learned my lesson when Circuit Cityâs Fire Dogs took advantage by selling us $300 for antivirus and spyware installation.
Same here. Did they take two months to send the rejection letter to you as well?
I love all that you do... I know this is an older video but you are exactly what we need in this corrupt, lying, money driven world. Someone who is honest and tells it like it is.
Ah the good old days when Louis repaired stuff and had fun.

Same here. Another new subscriber.
That type of soldering isnt that difficult you could learn it pretty quickly if you tried.
As someone who worked on smartphone repair it's true that this can be mastered with time, but it's still not as easy as this gentleman makes it look. Also it's a matter of having good equipment which isint cheap depending on what part of the world you want are in.
Computer surgeon of the highest order!
You know generally speaking I had absolutely no interest in computer hardware or maintenance before I stubled across your channel.
But you are an excellent story teller and narrator, and I have actually been researching more into hardware.
Considering attempting to build my own PC for the first time soon and know vastly more than I did!
Wouldn't trust myself to solder or replace individual chips and such but who knows, maybe I could eventually.
you will, and believe me, is addictive
Get someone who knows how to build one to help you for your first time.
Nah youâre good brah. You can do it yourself, building a computer nowadays requires little to no computer knowledge at all. You just have to know the ten or so components that make up pcs these days and buy them and assemble
if you want to start building all you need is like 500-1k bucks to do it, maybe like 200 if you just want to build a barebones af computer. if you want to get super into it even more the comptia a+ certification is pretty great.
I may not be a hardware person. I may not understand any of the repairs(to any avail), but watching the solder flux melt is the most satisfiying thing ever.
Thank you for your insight and your professionalism.
Every Apple Worker out there:
ÂŽÂŽI'm not paid enough to do thatÂŽÂŽ
DIVI7NITY
It's not just Apple. Ford does the same. Our window of our Ford Transit van was broken. Long story short, the car next to us had a AC gas cylinder in his car, which exploded because of the hot weather. His car was total loss and our van's two windows were shattered. Luckily no one got hurt.
And instead of replacing the window, they wanted to replace the entire window sill (including the window that wasn't broken). So, they could charge 7 times more than just replacing only the broken windows.
