I personally hate the short sightness of people who think Messi or Ronaldo are better than these player but especially Maradona. Swap Messi and Ronaldo for Maradona. Who would fare better? Maradona playing on carpets with no tackles allowed from behind or Messi/Ronaldo playing in the 1980s on bad pitches with no protection?

the numbers telling otherwise. Messi and Maradonna are untouchable in terms of dribbling. In world cup, Messi completed 110 dribbles (#1) total while Maradona completed 105 dribbles (#2) in total. They are up there 30 more dribbles than any other players.
Ronaldinho is a showboaters, but Messi and Maradonna's dribbling are far more effective.

Europeans do not know how to differentiate dribbling from simple overtaking, even when a player passes by his marker just for speed the European institutions count as dribbling, but in fact this is a complete blasphemy for those who are admirers of brazilian football art, if you notice well all the "dribbles" of messi and maradona are only variations of only 2 movements: "elástico" and "caneta", there is practically no complex dribbling variability, Ronaldinho's dribbling is of high complexity, ronaldinho should be 1st with a big difference from Maradona and Messi who are actually skillplayers, not dribblers

I would put R9 over maradona personally
*better ball control* : R9 is often seen dribbling more than 4 or 5 players while at full speed, im not saying maradona can't do that, but R9 seems more comfortable with the ball in his feet while at full speed
*physicaly stronger* : this is a no brainer, R9 is clearly physically stronger, able to muscle off defenders, which is a huge plus when it comes to dribbling
*faster* : maradona was quick as hell, but R9 was faster, at real madrid (past his prime!), with two busted knees he was clocked at 35/mph, now that's an achievement of it's own
*more skillful* : you can definitely say that this argument is irrelevant, because footballers like messi don't use skills and still are gods at dribbling, but skills are always a plus
and lastly
*R9 played with harder competition*
R9 won the ballon d'or, against the hardest ligue, at only the age of 19!
