Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a role-playing video game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. The game is the ninth mainline entry of the Like a Dragon series, and a direct sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon (2020) and the spin-off title Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (2023).
Infinite Wealth stars Ichiban Kasuga, protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Kazuma Kiryu, the original protagonist of the series, and takes place in the franchise's first-ever overseas locale, Hawaii, in addition to familiar settings in Japan. Together with old and new allies, Kasuga and Kiryu team up to help the former find and reunite with his mother in Hawaii, while the latter struggles to survive with cancer.

Probably. Depends on how much work they put in it imo. If the game is already super long, and they have to re-balance stuff and add enemy placements and weapons, I get that it is a lot of work. And maybe it is better to have that as DLC than not at all. It's much easier to add NG+ to God of War or other 20h games.

@@sparkyspinz9897 I'm not sure what the first game in this series was like, but past Yakuza games NG+ was handy for mopping up missed trophies, I have heard there are trophies in this one attached to NG+, but whether they're a part of the platinum I don't know.
â@Pillock25 One example is during Legend on 0 I clean up missables, plus nothing missable after doing story specific achievements but NG+ is a good way to be creative with your moves after learning the game just to play through the game experimenting. So yeah I argue NG+ is very essential.

new game plus is locked and not available for the base game. Supporting this=making this the norm for gaming just like microtransactions. As if gaming wasn't getting worse and worse as a whole as years go buy (microtransactions, base game features in dlc, raising in prices, having to pay to play online in console) all of the above became the norm because people payed still. Don't make the same mistake. If the game does bad, they will include it and not do it again. I know a lot of people don't play the new game plus (me included most of the time) but we should just accept making gaming worse and worse by allowing this things to happen. I am sorry Luke, while I really enjoy your channel and your take on things.. you are doing a disservice with this review. Sega is trying to push a 'new norm' with this title, locking features like New Game Plus behind the higher priced editions and that is a reprehensible policy. I am disappointed that you don't address this and are recommending a title that potentially sets a damaging precedent to the gaming industry going forward. I get that it's a good game, and that's awesome, but Sega needs to be called out on this behavior. At the very least you should at least inform your viewers of what they are encouraging when they purchase this title. Unless people get the word out, this game will be obviously successful and other developers will take the attitude of 'oh, we can charge extra for this now? Cool.. lets do it.' That's bad for all of us.

No one cares about the no NG plus. It's been mentioned a thousand times. He's reviewing THE GAME, not the greedy publisher surrounding it. Just buy the base game and use cream installer to get all DLC for free. Problem solved. You support the devs without giving the publisher extra money.

Okay , I feel like itâs a disservice to tell people they can jump into this game without having played any of the other the other Yakuza games. This is a direct sequel to like a dragon it would be pretty helpful to play through that at the very least. .
I love this game and series, infinite wealth is a masterpiece, though i do despise sega for locking new game plus behind paywall.
I respect the review not based on the dlc practices. I bought the game, and after 20 hours and still feeling like Iâve barely scratched the surface, I honestly wouldnât mind paying a little extra. As a game, it is an absolute masterpiece, looking past the dlc. Worth every penny I spent on it.

I'm on Chapter 5 (about 18-hours in) and have been really enjoying it in all of its absurdities. It's my first Like a Dragon game (and I have zero history with the Yakuza series either). This game's a trip, that's for sure.
Without spoiling, do you feel like you follow the narrative of the game? I know it is said in this video that you can jump into this game fine, but almost every fan of the franchise is saying otherwise and at the least need to have played Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7). I want to play the franchise but I donât have the time and commitment to go through all of the games in a short amount of time just to play Infinite Wealth since I really wanna play this one. So Iâm really wondering how your experience is with it, do you feel like you can mostly follow the narrative of this game, or are there so many callbacks to the other games tied to the main narrative that you feel lost storywise?
@@SfinxVid I mean the main plot of the game is easy enough to understand without any prior knowledge of the franchise beforehand, but I wouldn't recommend Infinite wealth as your first LAD/Yakuza game given this is both a follow up to Yakuza Like a Dragon and the supposed send off for the previous main protagonist and includes many references to past events and characters from all previous entries. I highly recommend that you start with either Yakuza 0 or Like a Dragon (also known as yakuza 7) as your introduction to the franchise, 0 if you're interested in the older games as well as the newer titles or LAD/7 if you only want the newer stuff/Ichiban. At the very least playthrough 7 before Infinite wealth so that you don't spend half the game going "who's this" and "wait, what happened" the game is big enough as it is and it'll be harder to enjoy when your trying to play catch up for the entire game.
TLDR: To get the most out of Infinite wealth you'd likely need to play through most of the main series titles, obviously that's quite an undertaking so I'd recommend at least playing Like a Dragon first in order to get an understanding of the franchise and the characters. Its a phenomenal game so don't feel the need to rush through it just to get to infinite wealth since its not like Infinite wealth is some live service game that'll be dead in a year, I promise it'll still be there if/when you finish LAD.
â@SfinxVid as someone who played all the Yakuza games 0-7 during the pandemic, it was amazing, but also a slug and you may not be able to give the series the right time to experience. If you really are itching for a crash course hack, you can watch the story summary on CZcams. Check out the videos for 0-7 from LaMuertaBlanca. However, if you can spare 10 hours to play only one game. After watching the videos, please play Like a Dragon Gaiden, because it a shorter side story game. It ties the stories together and gives you a chance to play as Kiryu. Trust me you will be so hyped and feel ready for Infiniti Wealth.
You can always go back an play thr main series once you get hooked.
@@SfinxVid I don't feel that lost when playing through Infinite Wealth. I think the devs did a good job making it feel like a good enough stand-alone game from a narrative perspective. in other words the glimpses I get of events from prior titles is, generally speaking, good enough to provide a reasonable amount of color for me as someone who is just now experiencing anything pertaining to this franchise. I'm sure there's plenty more I'm missing since I didn't play any of the other games but personally I'm okay with that. Like you, I just don't have the time to play through the entire series in order to fill in all the blanks, but I also don't really care to do that anyways. The storyline is intriguing enough to play through Infinite Wealth, absolutely, but any gray areas in the storyline that I may notice are not bothersome enough to really dampen my experience. All-in-all I'm having a blast with Infinite Wealth. The story is solid; the characters are alluring and well-rounded; the wealth of content is staggering; and the gameplay itself is quite polished. I can easily see myself putting 100-150 hours into this title, though that's subject to change once I hit "end game."

I'm playing it at the moment, and this game is EVERYTING I love about Japanese storytelling. I just went on Ichibans first ever date, and I'm assuming he's either

2) An alien trying to blend in as a human being.

Paid ng+ isn't a flaw within the game's systems, it's an optional feature, so it's technically not a negative. I'm against paywalling ng+ obviously but you can't rly criticize a game for an optional feature, it doesnt seem fair.
@kostasspirou1010 It is, though. It's a basic feature in literally every other game that has a NG+. Imagine having to pay for extra save files in Elden Ring, or Baldur's Gate 3. Sure, a lot of people will only have 1 save file, but for the people who want to experience the game in other ways, should they be required to pay extra for more save files? No, absolutely not, because those types of games have multiple save files included by default because it's common sense and the right thing to do. There is absolutely no valid reason NG+ is locked behind a paywall.

I imagine that this game is confusing to play in English, because there are characters that actually speak English in the game, so you are going to be confused to when the characters are actually speaking English or pretend Japanese.
Also I have not liked the English karaoke songs from what I have heard.
The game is amazing so far. Don't play it in English though. If you have bad eyesight like me, you can increase the text size to pretty big unlike the last game. Thank you SEGA for adding that.

Yong Yea as kiryu just ruins the dub for me tbh. But I'm a long time fan, beat every mainline game, so I prefer the Japanese anyway. The dubs can never capture that super badass, dramatic way Japanese tough guys talk
Playing this game with an English dub should be illegal
Everyone talking about NewGame+ all of these previews were scheduled out in a way that content creators didn't know about the DLC stuff until after they made these previews. Of course that's scummy from the marketing team but the CZcamsrs already committed to making the videos so they legally can't not make the video, and it was impossible for them to know about NG+.

Imma be a gatekeeper and say I find it weird that this game is getting so much hype now even from people who haven't played the game before it, let alone the entire series. Like at least play Like a Dragon before.

So far I think 7 is better, but I am only 15 hours in. 8 feels more polished but less interesting story-wise and character-wise so far.
Also iâve heard there is no business management sim this time so minus points for that, I spent hours in that mini-game in 7.
