Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Foundation - Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. Brené is also a visiting professor in management at The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business.
She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy and is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Braving the Wilderness, and her latest book, Dare to Lead, which is the culmination of a seven-year study on courage and leadership. Brené hosts the Unlocking Us podcast, and her TED talk -- The Power of Vulnerability -- is one of the top five most viewed TED talks in the world with over 45 million views. She is also the first researcher to have a filmed lecture on Netflix. The Call to Courage special debuted on the streaming service on April 19, 2019.

I’m in my 50’s and this con was so affirming to how I have been reparenting myself.
We were compliant with our parents out of fear. Beatings were a daily occurrence. Any extras were unheard of.
Not everyone knows what they want to do when they graduate or even close to it.
For those who don't, I recommend going to do at least some of ypur gen. ed at a local community college. Same material, chillwr environment, teachers who are allowed to teach and spend time with the students rather than being required to publish X papers per year and have Y number of graduate students, etc. JC/CC is the way to go. And you can actually pay for it with a part time job.
Being able to meander through college is an affluent family's luxury few can afford.

Where can I find more resources on family-focused families?!
Imagine having big goals at such a young age, knowing exactly what you want to achieve-then having your extremely high achieving mother manipulate you out of it. She then says how "discovering" all the things you don't want to do is just as valuable!? I love Brene's work, and I know this isn't the full story, but this threw me for a loop. Did I hear this right?
You did
Brene did not say that her daughter knew what she wanted - she said she told her daughter that she wasn't going to pay for college for a kid who already knew exactly what they wanted. 99.9% sure that the point was all the friends were saying they already knew exactly what career they wanted and the daughter joined in. Notice that she was asking the daughter to take courses to explore options and didn't say Don't take any courses about what you're interested in. I'm a bit surprised that people are taking the daughter's (possible) verbalized certainty as a sign of a true vocation with no other evidence, it isn't as if Brene said she said X and she's been interested in it for years, watches shows, reads books, etc, any other evidence of a true passion.

If I say, "oh shit", I would fully expect my kid to say the same. Even if I wouldn't want her to. lol
luckily your new girlfriend now knows exactly how to pursue all things that interest her (including dance to COMPETITIVE LEVEL) while still maintaining her finances well, her credentials well, finished her degree with almost cum laude, and still employable to high-paying roles anytime she wants to make the switch. this is why she's not a cheater, because she truly knows how to win in life without cheating or stealing :)

I like the part about the cursing. Adults can do what they want, I think its silly when adults get fined by children for $1 when they use a cuss word, what in the world kind of sillyness is that?
Adults CANNOT do what they want. Adults need to be adults and learn to modulate their emotions and actually MODEL what they want their children to do. I told my kids that they are allowed to curse but gave rules as to when NOT to do it. It wasn’t complex and to this day they respect that.
Brene, is it family to dox police officers?
silver lining is better to find out now than later... imagine raising kids with a woman with such personality and cheating tendencies...

this was simply a case of seriously trying to have baby for about 9 months, failing, feeling like failure, and then compounded by all the upsets in the years before, proceeded to cheating and break ethics
