    Palmerston... long live Star Burger. This brings back fond memories from when I would ride from Yonge/St. Clair to Ash Creek Park in Whitby. I would always take the Gatineau Hydro Corridor east and then snake down to the waterfront trail. There's a neat pedestrian bridge that crosses the GO tracks onto Tara Ave.

      Nice. I've tried a lot of different routes to Whitby including the Pan Am path route.

    You have fairly decent weather for your ride -- I'm in S-W USA, yesterday was 108F (42+C). Recently retired and watching your video of your ride is motivating me to start riding, and do some sight-seeing. I have a 21-year-old 'Next-brand' mountain bike, which I bought in 2001 and seldom rode -- your video is making me think I seriously need to begin a project of getting it in shape and get to riding. Thank you for the views of your area...so nice and green compared to the desert environment here.

    Hi CJ, interesting cycle ride and good to see the extention of the Danforth bike lanes. Hot weather for cycling and we have had similar conditions over here UK. Scenic bike trails before reaching Whitby. Keep Well C.J, C.J.H.

    I live basically where you started in St. Jamestown. Across the bridge, up to mortimer, less traffic lights and baloney twisty bike lanes to Main st. Then along Danforth then to Kingston Rd. along Kingston Rd to Lawson then north to old Kingston Rd right into King st. In Oshawa. Only took me 1 hr and 54 mins to downtown Oshawa. With still 2 bars out of 6 on my battery and I only pedaled to start out and up hills to keep speed up. Total to my friends house in N. Oshawa, 53.9 kms.

      Sounds like a fun ride! The route I took is definitely not the fastest or the most direct, but I like it. During the early stages of the pandemic when the arterial roads had minimal traffic I experiments with more direct routes to Whitby.

    Looks like a good ride Christopher! Those trail sections are really nice! Just read in the description that you filmed this with a Samsung Galaxy S22. I'm guessing you got a new phone! Nice! So did you record the audio using a wireless mic? I think we had talked about this before in another video's commetn section after I mentioned that I had got the S21.

    • @cjhoyle
      @cjhoyle  Před rokem +1

      Yes, I got my S22 in June, right after I got back from my Grand River trip. I'm still getting used to filming on it, after 2 solid years using the S10. Aside from a few parts where I recorded a voiceover afterwards, the rest of the audio was recorded just using the built in microphones on the phone. The S22 seems to do a bit better job at blocking the wind noise than the S10 (though it seems to have less dynamic range). One of the tricks I use to improve the audio when it's windy is to compare the left and right stereo audio tracks, and use whichever one sounds better. I used that for a few of the clips which I filmed while I was actually in motion.

      @@cjhoyle Nice! Yes I have noticed while using my S21 that it records sound very well, even when moving or during a strong wind! I took some video while riding one day and didn't think that I'd be able to hear the sound because of the wind. I was really suprised after when I listened to the video and could hear the sound perfectly! I've been using my S21 to record all of my video through this summer, with a little video recorded using my GoPro 10. I am hoping to start creating and posting this videos this fall and winter. I have recorder video during at least 8 day trips and overnight/multi-day trips so far!

    Good to see you again CJ, I was wondering where you had been? but I suppose you have more to do than make CZcams videos. I recognise the area around Birchmount Kennedy and Kingston Road from friends I had in Scarborough (Lakeview Ave) when I visited them from Northern Ireland.
