  • It was all change in Downing Street today as Sir Keir Starmer assembled his cabinet for the first time - promising to "take tough decisions" with a "raw honesty".
    Top of his agenda - cancelling the Rwanda deportation plan, tackling prison overcrowding and fixing what he called the "broken NHS".

      I know - it’s super clever. Let’s focus on education and stopping the cycle, not running a Victoria work house. Of course people who do awful things should be put away for a long time. But so much of the prison population is poverty and desperation.

    The reason the vote share is low is quite simple, people voted tacticaly. LibDems up and in those seats, labour down and vice versa. They played the FPTP system well. In FPTP percentage does not matter, seats do. If we have a FPTP system you have to focus your energy where you can win the seat. If you want the vote to reflect the seats then you want PR, simple as that.

      And let's hope that Starmer finds some humility to remember that that is why so many people voted labour too. I can't find anyone who's excited to have him in, just a relief that it's no longer the Tories. He's made no definite commitments for the poor, the disabled and the needy.. just weird things like supervised teeth cleaning for the under 5's🤷 building 1,500,000 homes on the green belt won't solve any problems, there's not a lack of houses...its a lack of AFFORDABLE housing that has crippled the country!the only thing I have heard to give me any cheer is the appointment of Mr Timpson!
