Being 1000% truthful, I don't follow you enough man. You're one of the realest barbers that I know of simply because of your honesty and bluntness in your opinions and perspectives concerning our industry. I couldn't honestly think of anything else that could've been added had I been the one answering those questions. "I AM THAT GUY" ( almost a decade in the same shop with hopes to one day run my own gig, personal suite ideas, learning how to brand & better market myself, social media etc...). I'm constantly learning and focused on my craft because I honestly do have a passion for this. Besides your obvious talent though, Your constantly giving back through your transparency and content which in my belief is the core of your value, but the fact that you realize "you're not a businessman, you're A BUSINESS mannn" keeps running them numbers up for you in every direction. Self awareness is very important. After 6 years I started a business with two partners and friends only to know I don't feel ready to settle with a shop just yet as being a good barber does not make you a good business man. Comparing to soccer, it was pushing myself to be more of the president of the club rather than the player and I wanna play a bit more in the field. And my creative side fulfills me too much to give up of it just now. Get more experience, grow more and whatever the future may hold. One cut at a time.
Iv been following mostly of your videos from ig. I loved how you talk some real stuffs which is negelcted in today's barbering industry and where im from, barbering has been coming a trend and people are no longer focusing on quality. Just cos having shops like this is cool and making money, mostly tend to forget the quality for over quantity. I definitely understand the headaches portion of it, but I want to at least have some say so about who I work with all day. And if don't open my shop, I will not have something I built that I can walk away from one day. I love my craft but, not owning the shop and or a viable product means no income if you are not cutting. I need to come back from vacation to revenue. Great info Marv. Keep inspiring us

Man you literally hit the head on the nail with this topic! Iâm 8 yrs strong in the industry and first thing everyone asks is âwhy I donât have my own shop yetâ. Suiets are ok as well I found them to be higher than booth rental. And I prefer shop environment as long as itâs in respectable manner! Agree with you on that topic! Keep continuing education l! I opened up a shop because i love cutting hair and wanted to surround myself with ppl who felt the same. In Miami. Thatâs not the case so after two years i decided to close and opened a studio and i love it way more. Less stress and i save way more revenue @Lou_dabarber âđœ

I just opened up my own shop a year ago... And I greatly appreciate the advice. Strate facts!!! Itâs a wayy bigger head ache to run a shop then to just work in one... tactfully Address lazy barbers or barbers that are hard to work with... thatâs strate facts. I been threw like 15 barbers in only a year... smh... itâs a lot of stress fr fr. Itâs wayyy easier to pay booth rent.
