Zune was really good but very late to the race, that's why it's so feature-packed. At that point Apple was more interested in iPhone that they didn't even bother to upgrade the iPod in any significant way rather than make it smaller and increasing the storage. And they did the right thing, just as everyone tried to copy iPod, the same thing happened to iPhone. By the time they released the iPod Touch (which was a downgraded iPhone) you knew the mp3 player game was over. Beautifully shot video, btw.
Totally agree! Once they launched the iPhone iPods were no longer their priority and it was game over for the mp3 industry. Back in the day I sold my iPod nano and then saved up for an iPod touch. Loved that thing! Thanks! Had a little fun with this one 🙌
Pretty much everything was better about the Zune. It just came too late and the momentum the iPod had was too much to overcome. It's amazing how the Zune's interface and software still looks fresh to this day while the iPod's looks pretty dated.
At the time when they were competitors, part for part, the zune was a better piece of tech. Apple beat it out with marketing domination. The rest is history.
Marketing is HUGE and Apples marketing has always been iconic. You're totally right, if Microsoft was able to put more marketing into Zune I think it could have performed so much better.

You know, I noticed that too about the sound quality. I'm no audio file but was using my audio technica headphones and the Zune did sound a little better then the iPod video.

hahaha yeahhhhh you've got a point BUT Zune Pass let you keep 10 tracks a month I believe so along with the music streaming you also got to keep a lot of the music.
I think the second gen design was better the touchpad squircle was great. The thing you need to realize about the zune navigation was that it was a matrix. If you navigated into artist -> album, you could still swipe left/right to swipe between albums without having to go up a layer. iPod was hierarchical, so you always had to go up a layer before going down another path. That mental model helped me realize how Zune was so much better because it was faster.
The 2nd and 3rd gen design was amazing! Back in the day I didn’t really listen to playlists, I’d listen by album and I would use cover flow all the time! I just found one of the iPod nano sized zunes on eBay for $30! I wanna make a video when I get it in my hands 👀
I have every Zune ever made always liked it better then the iPod, the Zune music program was a great set up & looked better that iTunes. I even had a ton of Podcasts on my Zunes. You could even reverse sink you Zune once connected to your computer & place that music into your Zune music collection; which was a great feature especially if you got a new computer. With iPod you can’t do that.
That’s why I bought a Zune HD back in 2020. Too bad HD Radio flopped and it’s on life support thanks to auto manufacturers putting HD Radio Tuners in their cars.
the terrible software and music transfer process doomed it from the start. it had the more luxurious design compared to the ipod but it failed as a device.
I had a Zune and a Zune 2. I used and abused them until the headphone jack gave out on the first one. The 2nd edition eventually gave out because I dropped it so many times that the screen broke beyond help and I had to let it go. Both devices still connected to my computer and I had full access to my library. They were unusable now. In need of a replacement, I bought the newest edition of the iPod. It had a larger storage drive at 120g and although it didn't have some of the features I loved it did the job. I dropped it once and when I connected it to iTunes to add more music it wiped my entire collection and wouldn't add more music. That was it for me. Zune > iPod

The video looks great ( didn't even care about the topic itself )
Love the fish eye cam 👍👍
Thanks! Been playing around with lenses and filters and just having fun with it 🙌
Zune was good. But Microsoft is always late in to the game when it comes to portable music player and their windows phone.
If we're talking the Zune 30, GOD NO.
Anything after could stake a claim to it...just shame that the iPhone came out almost the moment the Zune hit shelves.
You’re right, if the zune was a few years earlier I think it could have been good competition to the iPod. The integrated WiFi was awesome. But yeah the Zune 30gb was not very pretty 😅
My Zune HD still works I miss the marketplace with the Zune pass allowing you to stream and keep 10 tracks every month.
Yeah I tried connecting my Zune to WiFi and going to marketplace lol nothing loaded 🤣 as expected
I hit the Subscribe button & Like Buttons. 💯 Ka-POW! 💥💣
Why is this video so dark? It's visually distracting. I hard to make out anything...
The zune lives in the shadows 👀
@@NathanMallek touché
You know Spotify copy and past Zune Software Design with no clue.
Yo, this is the most true thing I’ve heard.
I was a Zune user 😞
Say it with more confidence 🙌
Creative Zen Touch 40GB squad, where you at?
only 655 subs WHAT
make it 656? 😅
Bro I have one but I can't get the WiFi to work
Its pointless
@@WartHawg8196yea but I still like it and used it lol
The marketplace is completely down so you wouldn't be able to connect to it but Zune to Zune transfers still work!
@@NathanMallek ohh okay thanks for letting me know I been tryin but no luck LOL
I always thought the zune was cooler
🧕🏽
Of course Zune was better...
Its problem was the software music catalog...
The hardware was so so much better...
Now Creative Zen were even better...
The 80gb and 120gb zunes looked amazing! The big screen and matte aluminum back were amazing!
@@NathanMallek hd radio too...
yes i had both ipod sound quality was very poor compared to zune with same headphones
Like Windows Phone, I think M$ made a better product but just too late and Appe had the cooler image
no, it was not better than the ipod. the zune fucking sucked. i shelled out hella cash for the halo 3 edition because i was obsessed with master chief. the zune store was expensive, slow, and lacked content. oh, and then, out of nowhere, the zune store shut down, so you couldn't even buy music for it anymore. it literally became a paperweight because microsoft killed zune marketplace. microsoft threw everyone under the bus
Yeahhhhh that’s disappointing 😭 they were ahead of their time with the built in WiFi but the master chief one was awesome! The gears of war one was sick too!
No. Not at all
