  • BMW E92 Rear Shock Replacement: Swapping a leaking shock
    In this video we swap out a rear leaking shock on the MHD tuned e92 335i. Dylan is hoping to fit coil overs towards the end of the year, so in this video we have fitted a second hand shock. However if you are based in the states you can actually a new standard replacements for a great price here. - amzn.to/2yy2tfV

      Thanks so much!!! Its pretty amazing to be honest. We are having a bit of a shitty time with work and the virus mess, it was nice to hit a mega milestone on youtube. Many more videos to come!

    Open a boot and push on the plastic liner inside. I did like you and have dent now in the rear

  • @oscarmanuelalvarezperez8888

    I had the same problem with my rear shock on my 335i. My rims cracked too. I recomend to change the spring too for best driving.
    Great video bro, I want yo see more modifications.

      Good call! Like we mentioned in the video, this is a bit of a temp fix, until the coil overs go on. The owner has just ordered some downpipes, so we will have a video on fitting them shortly too.

    Good Job thanks for the shock DIY . Keep up the good work nice content. I was wondering if you had an lsd in your e92 and if you did could you do a segment on the lsd.

      Unfortunately neither my black 335i or this MHD tuned tuned grey one has an LSD. It's something i really need to get sorted, but i'm not sure which way i want to go. Whether i should do a full M3 rear end conversion, or just a new diff centre to suit. Both cars have the small housing diffs as well. Have you got any thoughts on which way to go?

    Thanks for the reply. I’m currently doing mine as we speak. I can’t get the top mount fastener off? I have a 16mm but it just keeps spinning with the whole shock. How do I get the bolt to break loose? The top is not an 8mm, did you use a vice grip? Thanks again

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 4 lety +1

      Sorry for the late reply. If you are replacing the shock, yeah just clamp the shaft with something. If you are re-using the shock, i wouldn't do that it may damage the shaft, thats all. This car it actually came loose just with a spanner on the top, so it was nice and easy.

    Is jacking up the rear control arm mandatory? Also I noticed you didn’t instal bump stops? They would go on top of the dust boot correct ?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 4 lety

      I jacked up the control arm in case the spring was still putting force on the shock. Didn’t want to risk anything going twang as we undid the shock bolts. However this particular car on msport springs didn’t have any tension on the spring with the wheel at full droop. But it’s probably worth being safe.
      I thought I mentioned the bump stops in the vid but it was a few months ago. They do sit either at the top of bottom of the visible part of the shock shaft. Doesn’t matter if it’s the top or bottom. But they really should be there.

    I have a 2010 335i E90 M Sport and hate how stiff and rough the ride is with the stock suspension. Is there a shock and strut u can recommend that is softer and more comfortable???

    • @b33b1m0v3
      @b33b1m0v3 Před 2 lety

      Most likely anything that goes in a 330i or 328i. It might raise the car also and it wont look as low as stock for a 335i.

    I have a squeak on the rear when I go over bumps but only changed shock last year could it be something else?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 2 lety

      Could be the shock or event the shock mount. But then also any of the rear suspension bushes. Squeaks can be a pain to figure out

    I’ve loosened the bottom shock bolt and the mount bolts but the shock seems like it’s stuck, why? I’ve tried everything but it won’t seem to come out. Do I need to pry it out? Thanks.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 4 lety

      It could be seized in place. Or tension on it from the control arm. Have you had any luck yet?

    Are those used shocks alright?
    I threw mine out just because the rods were not coming out by the gas force when pushed in.
    I was under the impression that once the gas is leaked out they are done...

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 4 lety

      You could be right. The replacement had significantly more dampening than the one coming out. I wasn't sure what sort of pressure these had new. I've seen some where the pressure wont always displace the shaft anyway. They are such a cheap crappy shock, i assumed they were just an emulsion shock where you are fighting an uphill battle with cavitation anyway. As mentioned in the vid, not a proper fix, but something that was better than what was original fitted for very little money.

    Just jacked up my wife's e92 to find the rear driver's side strut wasn't even connected to the car anymore...needless to say I just ordered a whole new mount and strut...I doubt anything on that strut assembly is something I want to even consider reusing lol

      I better just confirm, as some people dont realise. This one isnt my car, the car getting the turbos is the black one. However, got the walbro in today, just editing that video. Once i know the car is running on full e85 with the stock turbos, it will be time for the hybrids to go on. Hopefully the next couple of weeks should be done. Hopefully.

      Dylan is in 2 minds about the cheap coil over kits. They may be awesome. But he doesn't want to risk getting one that might be too stiff, or have fitment issues. Where he knows if he spends $1500-$2000 he will get something that will be perfect.
