A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I'm listening this song and solo at least few times a day, but it will never make me bored ;p And it's so amazing that he doesn't even pick between 0:08 - 0:11
They start with a key for the song... Syn and Zacky narrow down the chords based on this key... then they pick 5 or more that they like, then they order them the way they think it sounds better after hours of playing. Then Syn creates the solo by playing for hours and hours using the scales that go well with the key of the song. And the shredding bit... it's just up and down the scale and some sweep picking.
@snakev10v5 right before the first fret is good, unless you plan on using the first fret, which in that case go back even further to right after the nut. you don't even have to use a rag, you can also use a hair band. those work well too.
And specifically this solo, it's one of the best of the decade. The shredding speed alone is enough to prove that. He plays all up and down the neck and every string with incredible speed and accuracy, the tempo is fast as fuck, and (at least to me) it strikes emotion when you hear it. So please, before you bash the guy who inspired me to learn guitar, make sure yo know what you're talking about.
@FluffyBunny97s that makes the guitar to sound cleaner, to not let the notes escape. It is very usefull in solos with swiping or picking. (Sorry, my english isn't very good)
@MichaelJPMITCHELL When you record a solo, you aren't playing any open strings (usually) and if your not playing anything open, you don't want your other strings buzzing, so he ties it up there to eliminate that buzzing during recording. Your Welcome.
@MrLucasMaia it's not on the not, it's wrapped over the first few frets. It's so any open notes you play are muted. Its common to see in studios, so if you fuck up and hit another string then you wont really hear it. That, and since the other strings arent being vibrated, you dont get additional hum.
@TheWhocares233 Because everything about guitar is personal preference. He might not be the most technically skilled player, but he is still very fucking good. What makes him an amazing player is his feel and style.
@DeepSevenfold i agree. although, they were metalcore originally, and they've done well considering matt couldn't scream as much anymore. i've noticed that it's their popularity that contributes to people disliking them, which is a bit of a paradox.
@NoodlesIn3D dude, i've been playing for three years now, i know that, it doesnt have to do with whats happening with the left hand fingering, but with the right hand: when you palm mute, your hands rub against the strings, creating unwanted feedback. when you release your right hand off the strings, you also create unwanted feedback, but with the rag, it dampens that unwanted sound, making the notes clearer.
syn: "the solo in after life is.."
random dude:" impossilbe"
hahahahaha gets me everytime
Noise
The solo in afterlife is...... impossible
He actually said it was definitely a trick..
danny johnson can play it flawlessly, even better than synyster himself. I'm not kidding.
Jaüría BULL FUCKING SHIT! YOU ARE LIENG

@@jyggalag9838 😂
I like the voice in the end where syn says: "The solo in afterlife was.."
Then another voice comes in and says "Impossible"
After so long, I still can't forget how freaking fast his fingers move. Incredible. Really good man.
"Impossible" AHSUASHUSA
My 14 year old friend can play this. He's getting a record deal.
Thank you, syn for the inspiration. ^.^

i love this song. it has so much melody!
Best Guitarist, best band, amazing . I love you Syn Gates
This man, deserves Guitar God status. I love this hermano.
his hand looks like a very fast spider moving all over the fretboard.. thats epic
people dont give him enough credit. people talk about marty friedmans bends but listen to syns slides and vibrato...smooth as eggs.
for me, the best solo syn ever created. it have melodies, and it is pretty technical
Synyster is soo cute and he is like the best guitar player ever!
this is the best cover i ever seen ! :D
I can't wait to figure this solo out. Syn is a beast! He's up there on my list with Dime, Zakk, Oli, Paul Gilbert--those are my personal top 5 anyway.
He is one of the few men whom I really respect...
awesome solo!!! syn u rock!!
best cover on youtube of this solo
This solo is amazing
This guy's for real, his cover is almost perfect.
Joke ?
Best solo I have ever heared :D
only of wathing this video i can see that guitar is beautiful to play
Gates are Great and Genius
that sweep picking looks sooo smooth

What a God! Look how he changes his hand position to play the sweeps!
I love the Rev's drumming in background :D
R.I.P. 'o grand master :'(
I love how easy he makes it look. and look how little he picks the first part. thats all in the left hand! :D
That was so funny that didn't make my day, it made my whole month XD That IS Synyster Gates
i watched this video so many times. over 20 times, for 2 reasons. 1. this solo is insane 2. the ending is soooo funny! XD
Legendddd. I wanted his Schecter for the longest time :P
happy birthday syn!! :)
synyster gates the best guitarist of all times
Synyster Gates is such a beast
i love synster gates' solos and especially this one!!!
hahaha at the end.. "the solo in afterlife was.. impossible"
Happy birthday Syn!!!! You and I share the same Birthday :D
That's a badass solo...!!!
The badass solo is "coming home" svenfold...
Syn was born with a guitar in his hands...
this solo is great
They start with a key for the song... Syn and Zacky narrow down the chords based on this key... then they pick 5 or more that they like, then they order them the way they think it sounds better after hours of playing. So just because so many people are arguing right now I am just going to go ahead am comment here. Syn is amazing and I love this solo so much.
dude he's amazing..hes just practically spazzing out on the guitar and it sounds sweet
so awesome!
its from later on in the dvd one of the guys says impossible so this guy put it in
the guitar solo I think I've ever heard.
@GuitaristfromFX3 Just a cloth or something. It's used to dampen string noise etc.
Damn, SYN is the best
he did an exellent job on everything but the sweeps...and the last little run. but on the first 3 parts he did good.
If I could play this, my life would be completed
And specifically this solo, it's one of the best of the decade. The shredding speed alone is enough to prove that. he is speedhackin'
@MackeyDack138 @lambloodcrazy123 it doesnt just mute the strings, the rag dampens the entire tone, giving the solo a clearer, cleaner, sound.
Amazing
eargasmic!!!!!!!!!!!
The 5 star solo tabs on ultimate guitar are pretty accurate.
I am glad ;) Hehehe you have a good month!
I have the dvd this is on and he says in it that some of it was random because he hadn't written all of it before they got in the studio...
i like how at the very end u hear u go "impossible"
@Samoa0509
i'm not sure but i think he's using the bridge and then switches to the neck. look closely at his hand, he moves it up.
@MichaelJPMITCHELL When you record a solo, you aren't playing any open strings (usually) and if your not playing anything open, you don't want your other strings buzzing, so he ties it up there to eliminate that buzzing during recording. Your Welcome.

@MrEngelstad
If Syn ever leaves this guy could def be his replacement. Very talented !
Superb
@pscompany heck yeah man...he's freakin beast
the thing at the neck of the guitar is used to cut backround noise so it sounds more clean its not used as a capo
This is 2018 and shit still impossible 😂
No he's not kidding.
I totally agree with MoominCloud
god, syn's playin is so smooth, like its so fluid and all in like one wavy motion, hes def under rated, even tho hes rated a lot XD
This is the reason my life goal is to be able to play like Syn.
it's a cloth to dampen the frets so the playing sounds cleaner; if he accidentally hits an open note it won't make any sounds, so it's not recorded
i hope that i can shred like syn someday :D
Ive found my hero
LOL i love that impossible just thrown in at the end its just aouta no where
Synyster Gates Just Plays It So Fresh , No One Can Play That Solo Like Him No Matter How Perfect They Play It
@MichaelJPMITCHELL so the other strings dont ring and make everything sound messy
R.I.P The Rev
AND
R.I.P Zacky Vengeance
@TheWhocares233 Because everything about guitar is personal preference. He might not be the most technically skilled player, but he is still very fucking good. What makes him an amazing player is his feel and style.

Syn is awesome and best guitarist ever even beats slash
that knot is to stop open strings from sounding. so if he picks an open string while sweep picking it doesn't sound. it is like a little trick ;)
i love the sliding part...i should learn that...i also like how he uses the chromatic scale and then he slams a fucking arpeggio between them
@dungsitta well, we are looking forward for your uploaded solo
haha, at the last part "is it possible?"
Syn is the guitar god.
For sure :D
BEST SOLO EVAR!
total G!!
" The Solo in Afterlife is Impossible "
Lol at the end haha
@Hucksterzz It mutes the other strings so that the solo sounds cleaner
That was the best cover ive ever seen, played it perfect, who is that guy?
Syn Gates is the best
he must of had his hands stricken by lighting cause that just insane
@zimjordanj no he actually didnt, its a guitar harmony, hes only playing half of what you hear for those few seconds
@MrHeadbanger999 the rags purpose is 2 reduce unwanted noise when ur recording a ong or in this case tht solo :) i do it all the time
@NoodlesIn3D dude, i've been playing for three years now, i know that, it doesnt have to do with whats happening with the left hand fingering, but with the right hand: when you palm mute, your hands rub against the strings, creating unwanted feedback. when you release your right hand off the strings, you also create unwanted feedback, but with the rag, it dampens that unwanted sound, making the notes clearer.
