If u upgrade the hammer do u think you can make an item go from good to epic? Also what does upgrading the scanner do?

I'm hoping that upgrading the hammer, means you can upgrade items also, but right now I'm notr sure, as I don't have it upgraded.. Soon tho.
Upgraded scanner means you can scan Epic items I'm guessing, as I cannot right now, so we'll see soon hopefully.
