Their movies don't have a singular art style, all of their characters, for better or worse, are distinctively different from one another in terms of personality and design and they aren't tethered by a certain formula. They have a "do whatever you want" mindset when it comes to their films. And with that, makes them extremely versatile in the animation industry.

I'm so glad you touched on Jack Horner being a cautionary tale about what happens when you don't value the things you have in life. Most people seem to think that he's "evil bc evil lol", but when you dig into his dialogue, it shows that even though he had more in life than most people ever will, he became fixated on the things he didn't have and let it consume him.

Overall that is the main message of the film. Puss doesn't value his lives so Death decides to take the final one prematurely. Goldilocks does not value the found family she has, hence why she seeks to find her 'ideal' one.
It is funny how in order to protect itself, the Wishing Star gives people what they want from their desired wish. Puss wanted his lives back so he got them, only to be repulsed by them. Goldilocks wanted a family she could belong to and it was showing she already had one. Jack wanted magic and power, he already had it with his limitless sack of goodies. Along with his pie empire.

Calling Death the Anti-Jiminy Cricket (or Antagonistic version as you said it), is incredibly fitting.
Especially since Jack Horner - who embodies the idea of what Puss might become if he doesn't change - also received a literal copy of Jiminy Cricket.
Thus, Jack Horner and Puss both received their personalized conscience to gide them. But, ultimately, it comes down to wether or not you stop and listen to what your guide tells you.

I LOVED Death in this movie for two big reasons:
One - I always like antagonists that call out heroes for their sins and flaws. In this case, Puss's carelessness with his lives. (Another great example of this is Rattlesnake Jake from Rango)
Two - His design, and his weapons in particular. Of course the blades are curved and can conjoin together like a two-headed scythe. But they're also curved and shiny like crescent moons, alluding to him being a wolf.
    😚👌💕 Perfect!

I watched this movie today, and...wow, was it a blast.
One thing you didn't mention was that Death didn't bother Puss in Boots after he had retired, and become "Pickles" - Puss was no longer being reckless and laughing at death, so the Wolf was content with just letting Puss be miserable yet not life-risking. The moment the cat donned his garb and revealed his revival, however, Death returned, as our orange feline was once again being reckless. If Puss had just stayed at the woman's cat-filled house for the rest of his life, no matter how soul-destroying and undignified it would be, that would still be an acceptance of his life, and thus Death would've never returned.
Another thing I appreciated about this movie is just how surprisingly realistic Puss' PTSD is depicted - when he's in the midst of combat, and becomes aware of Death, he loses situational awareness; he becomes unable to hear anything clearly but Death's whistle, and has a genuine panic attack, including hyperventilating. He doesn't snap out of it on his own, either, instead needing Perrito to provide _actual_ canine therapy to calm him down, and even then the problem itself is nowhere near solved - just that particular episode.
Oh, and "Favourite Fearless Hero" is an absolute BANGER of a song, man, and that the movie _starts off_ with it? Muy bueno - brilliant!

This movie released at the best timing for me. I was having very deep and thoughtful questions about my life by the end of 2022 after the deaths of my father and dog, losing my job, and even breaking up with my ex after 6 years together; all over the course of 2022. But I still have more to live for even if those things are now gone. This movie showed me the values in living life.

Not related to the movie but I saw this comment and felt the need to reply. I was in law enforcement for 15 years, I saw many many people on the end of the ropes in situations just like yours. I will tell you what I told them. Death is oblivion. The end. There can be no further reconciliation or anything learned. You will be just as you were before you were born. Nothing.
Everyone is tried throughout their lives, life is a war. There are people out there and things out there that are trying to take you down and you can quit. That is something you can do. But I think differently. When you reach that low point where you don't think life will ever get any better and you can't seem to find a way out. I think.. "good".. because it means you've hit bottom, there is nothing lower and you're still standing. That means no matter what you do things will only ever get better.
From your perspective your surrounded by a storm and it looks like it encompasses everything. But I can assure you it does not. You can fight your way out of that storm and when you do you will see the sun again. But right now.. your being forged.. you're being tested.. don't fail the test. DONT FAIL THE TEST. You will make it out of this and you will be stronger for it. You take this pain and you use it. You use it to make the time you have left mean something.
Death comes for us all, but when he arrives is not up to you its up to him. So you be sure you have a good story to tell him when he finally does come to claim you so you may entertain him while he helps you walk to the other side. He isn't some predator that stalks you. He is simply a guide so give him something to smile about as you walk with him.
So like death says in this movie. Live your life and live it well.

A point I’d like to point out:
In a previous scene (Pinocchio scene), Jack Horner is actually shown to not have had a great childhood, unlike what you mentioned. Instead of admitting this however, he plays it up as growing up having a great life, to discourage people pitying him for having a “sad backstory”. This glimpse into his past actually solidifies his motivation to gain immense power, as it was previously unattainable to him. This indirectly acts as a representation of the quote “my actions now are not the effect of my rough upbringing”, to further drive home the point that he’s an irredeemable villain, willing to sacrifice his people for his own benefit. Greed blinds him, and rules his intentions.

    @JAProductions494 Před rokem +23

I think one aspect of this movie which works for me personally (and most likely a lot of other people) which I haven’t seen anyone bring up is the fact that Puss is a pre established franchise character. A large portion of the audience have seen Puss before in the Shrek movies or the original film. As a result, we know what he’s like. We know he’s this larger than life hero. As a result, it’s more impactful seeing him knocked down, distressed and anxious. It’s so different to the Puss we got to know for years and so it helps to show how much he has grown and changed throughout the movie. Plus, people like me who grew up with Puss and loved him as a kid should find the message of this movie more impactful than a similar message in another film because seeing Puss go through this arc is like seeing an old friend change and improve themselves. You have a stronger emotional connection to them than someone introduced to you only an hour ago

They’re some of my favorite movies, and I really believe they have amazing messages, as well as amazing types of animations that I haven’t really found since, except for into the Spider Verse, of course. But again, no pressure! I adore your vids :D

Standardizing one form of animation will make style pretty stale. Photorealistic animation, completely hand-drawn animation, and blended animation styles should all coexist.
Also everything about the movie itself is pretty much perfect, however the fandom obligated me to lower the score of the movie to a 9/10 instead of a 10/10.

The problem is that those people make awful memes that take a giant shit on the very *concept* of being a film critic by listing the “bad, cringe ahh” things in 2022 Disney movies as Mei Lee introducing herself, her wearing glasses making her a “NeRd”, her and her friends hanging out, gay characters, etc. Most. Of. Those. Things. Are. Very. Mundane. And Common. When. It. Comes. To. Movies. And. Saying. Gay. Is. Bad. Is. Very. Homophobic. Those memes also only pay attention to Death, when many, many things about the movie are awesome and deserve recognition. Not just Death. Also, when making and commenting on those memes, Sony and Across The Spider-Verse were AFTERTHOUGHTS. I did not see ANYONE who made or commented on those memes acknowledge the fact that a very promising sequel to a phenomenon in the animation industry (That introduced the animation style that was used in PiB2) was about to be released, and it actually turned out AMAZING! It’s like they treated it like it didn’t exist!

@@henrythef1guy768 No, the problem is clearly with you, specifically the fact that you let these people and what they say live rent-free in your head. The fact that you're letting them pollute your view of a movie alone is far more attention than they deserve.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head here. I really feel that death is what drove this one home and put it over the top. The way he was implemented was incredible. Not only that but the "panic attack" scene with puss was fucking amazing. I don't think I've ever see a movie, animated or otherwise that portrayed what a panic attack actually is quite as well as this one did. No music, just the sound of his heart beat as he desperately tries to calm himself, with him having his friend there that finally helped him get there.
This movie really had no business being as good as it was, a sequel to a spin off movie from a dying franchise. The entire team needs to get awarded for this one. The writing to the animations to the actors. All of it was very well done. Bravo to them for having a massive set of balls and making this one the way they did. In a kids movie showing your hero getting absolutely thrashed and then showing him BLEEDING to drive home the point that this was no joke, it wasn't funny. Puss was about to die. They took a risk and it paid off.

You make good points on all these topics but what I think it nailed best for me was... the introduction of death! We falsely assumed he was a bounty hunter because of how he asks for Puss In Boots autograph on an effing WANTED poster and he taps where it says "Dead" and on rewatching like how on every tap the camera zooms in closer. And the whistle? Damn, reminds me of Negan when we meet him in TWD.

Perrito is the best. At first I thought he was just going to be the plucky comic relief who would appeal to kids, but he ended up providing important elements to the narrative, such as you described in the video. I also love the irony of choosing him to be a chihuahua, as they're known to be one of the more aggressive dog breeds. It falls in line further with how his character just reflects anything negative life gives him

For Goldie, the ones who changed her minds were Purito (however you spell his name) and the Mama Bear. Purito said what Goldie wanted to hear -- "As a fellow orphan, I can tell you that you won the orphan lottery". And Mama Bear, who just heard Goldie doesn't acknowledge the bears as her family (which clearly hurt all the bears), simply said, "Okay, then we'll do everything we can do to get you your wish, [because that's what family does]."
For both Puss and Goldie (and Softpaws), their true wishes weren't actually what they thought their wishes were. For Puss, his true wish wasn't to regain his 9 lives back. His true wish was to overcome the crippling fear of death. And for Goldie, her true wish wasn't to have human family. Her true wish was to overcome her insecurities about what makes a true family.
Ironically, both of their true wishes weren't something that a mere Wishing Star can give them. And that's precisely why those wishes were worth fighting for.
    "No magic required."

If Puss doesn’t see what he already has and continues with his wanting of immortalizing himself. It would be unfixable. he won’t realize what he had until it’s too late. He will go down a path of trying to gain…….

I must admit, the last film I can think of that kept me on my seat the whole time and had fast, but good, pacing, and was also a decent movie, was Rogue One, probably the only decent Disney Star Wars movie. It was practically perfect throughout and even had diverse characters and yet, it avoided all "woke" agenda flaws of the sequel trilogy (I suppose one could argue that Saw Guerrera was a reference to Che Guerrera, but I rather see him as a tragic character who saw too much hurt first in the Clone Wars and then from the Empire that came after it, to the point where he's DESPERATE to stop the Empire, whereas the Alliance has a lot of more "political" people in it who were more about "reforming" the Empire than bringing back the Republic and trying to get back to democracy.)
