  • This is video is for anyone looking to repair or teardown a Denon MC 6000 Mk 1 Midi Controller. Specifically this video is for the Play button, which is a known issue for these units. The small tact switch will fail requiring a full teardown in order to get to it. But getting access to the main board and cross fader is also shown.
    A lot of work for one switch but for those with the inclination/desire and don't want to fork out a few hundred dollars, this helps.
    If you found this useful, please leave me a thumbs up or comment..
    This is a fairly long video so you can jump to certain points:
    Repair starts at: 02:11
    Repair finishes at 36:42
    Rebuild and test starts at 36:47
    You will need part number: Denon 941662001919S
    Here's a good place to order denon mc6000 parts. I'm not affiliated or paid to mention them in anyway.

    PRO TIP: When separating the two halves of the controller, if you disconnect the two ribbon connectors first you can carefully open it up all the way and lay the top upside down next to the bottom to get a better grip on disconnecting the 3rd and final wire (the push-connector wires) Also I went ahead and replaces all 4 tact switches for the play/cue buttons at the same time since I never want to have to do this again lol Thanks for making this, it was long repair but I got it done thanks to this video!

    I did mine too..and replaced all four switches as well (donnieisrad). Makes sense if you're in there already considering how long it takes to open the case and get at the switches. I used soldering wick to remove solder joints. Works well if you don't have a pump. Be careful with ribbons when cracking open case. Go slow!

    And for anyone out there with the same issue: it was hard for me to find an exact match for the tact switch, but this one is working fine for me:

    It's got a slightly shorter throw, takes a little extra push to click, and clicks a bit louder, but only when you are thinking about it. Not enough for me to notice when mixing.

      @@eansugarman4675 Finally got in to it, similar but simpler; bottom of the casing comes off, then the I/O sub-board, then the front casing, then the board off the plastic inner frame in similar fashion. Probably 100 screws and 29 nuts & washers to service the faders, but it's made it this long.

    Found this video tear down useful for replacing cross-fader. However, I don't think you mentioned what kind of problem you were having with the play button. Mine works.... but sometimes, it acts as if I hit it twice. Not sure if this is a firmware problem or the same issue you had.... and not sure if replacing the contact would solve my problem? Also, while i'm inside, I was considering replacing the fx knobs with pan pots.... So that there is a stop at the center points (50%). Do you have any recommendations for that. I'm assuming I can use pan pots. Thanks for any help

    • @eansugarman4675
      @eansugarman4675  Před 8 lety +2

      +Jamey Sewell The problem I was having was similar to yours with the buttons. But it got worse, eventually hitting the play button would not work at all and the only way I could get around it would be to assign a 'hot cue' and start every track by hitting a 'hot cue' button for that particular deck. Now that I've replaced both play buttons, I have no other problems. It is not a firmware problem. It will get progressively worse, that's when you know you have to replace the tact switch.
      I really don't know about replacing the fx knobs. I can imagine you probably can do it with no problems but would need to match the specs for the original fx knobs
      Glad you found the teardown useful.

    Hi! First of all, really good, detailed video. My problem is that one Linefader sends wrong midi-signal to my DJ-Software. Do you think this can be solved, when I replace the Linefader in the same way as you replaced the knob?
    Is there something I have to attend additinonally?
    And my last question: How can I clean the device to remove dust or dried liquids?

    • @eansugarman4675
      @eansugarman4675  Před 8 lety +1

      +Achim Hausr Thanks Achim. I don't think your problem with your fader is electrical. It sounds like a mapping issue. I would reset your all mc6000 mappings to default and see if this fixes the problem. (Also, and I'm sure you may have checked it, but double check where your fader input is set to and also check the switches on the back of the unit for software and hardware mixer choices.
      As far as the dust or dried liquids are concerned, if you have the unit open, it's easy to wipe down the cover board with a damp rag and then use a dry one to wipe off. If the circuit board has had liquids spilled onto it, that's a completely different matter. I can't evaluate it from here, but if your fader has ingested liquids then definitely replace it.

The latest updates (not very many) since 2.x obviously will not be in the controller mapping. You can get the driver and necessary files from the Traktor website.
