    If you click "SHOW MORE" in the description above your be able to see Links to the Tools 🔧🔨🔧 I use. Also Clickable Chapters📋 📙 throughout the video and other Links 🎬 that may be of interest. I've had a few viewers request where they can buy the tools they see in some of my videos but it's not very clear that the "SHOW MORE" tab has a lot of information in that may be of interest. Admittedly the amazon links are associated with me and I would earn a small commission which helps towards keeping the channel funded.

    I just bought a bargain mini cooper from 2004 with 140.000KM on the clock. with the help of your video i just did the first oil change, filter inspection and board computer reset. all went smooth and looks good. Thanks so much for this beautifull clear video. Greetings from Spain.

      That's handy of them. A lot of garages don't seem to bother with torque wrenches !!! would avoid damage though. Thankfully sump plugs are only £5 on ebay.

    Very good video. I’ve seen quite a few videos of the underside of BMW cam covers that have followed BMW’s 15,500 mile service schedule or when the lights eventually show service due - plenty of treacle like substances were found and not only on the cam cover! 😀

    • @CoatsandGaiters
      @CoatsandGaiters  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you Ian for that. Appreciate your comment. 15,500 is way too long isn't it! or every 2 years they say. I cannot believe this personally. If I had bought a MINI new and paid a premium price I'd have wanted that oil changed at least twice as often to maintain my investment. Wonder if it's because the first few oil changes are so called free so they space them out to save money and then when the damage has been done the car is likely to have moved on to a new owner with the vehicle now out of warranty. I see your called VTEC Ian. Have you seen my other videos where I did a head gasket on a CRV? beautifully machined engineering I noted.

      @@CoatsandGaiters that’s right mark. Most car manufacturers don’t want cars to last more than 10yo imo. Hence the 15,500/2yr intervals 😏😵 I’ve got an 2006 Accord (petrol) and do most work on it myself - apart from any real big jobs clutches, h/g’s etc, Oil changed every 5,000.
      I’ve not seen your crv video. I’ll try and find it now, thanks👍

    • @CoatsandGaiters
      @CoatsandGaiters  Před 2 lety +1

      Is yours the early model which had the filter with an internal cage in? If it’s tapping I would be concerned if oil is getting pumped properly through the filter. I did a later video on the earlier filters. Here's a link to that part of the video. czcams.com/video/2hom81usvi8/video.html

      Minispares used to sell a modified sump plug that cuts a slightly different thread as you tighten it, they are not expensive, just be careful not to overtighten it and use a new sealing washer!! (found on the net)

    Hello, I see it's a pre-restyling mini, so shoudn't it have a spring on the oil filter? and how is it possible that oil light turns off without the spring? I ask because I had a pre-rest cooper with spring missing and the light didn't turn off until I changed all the oil housing...

    Am I right in thinking there is no drain plug washer? There doesn't seem to be one on my Mini or yours. Annoyingly the bolt just turns after a point - cannot torque it. It didn't leak for the last 5000 miles though. Luckily.

    • @iebah1
      @iebah1 Před 2 lety

      The thread has fully stripped. How annoying. The oil pan is aluminium, the sump plug is harder. Someone overtightened it (I don't think it was me) and now I think I have to buy a new oil pan and gasket.

    • @CoatsandGaiters
      @CoatsandGaiters  Před 2 lety

      You can probably buy a helicoil for the sump part and repair the thread. Though the sump would probably need to be removed ideally to avoid swarf getting into it.

    All these change oil for mini cooper videos fail to mention you first first remove the engine splash cover! So it's a complete failure of a video from the viewpoint of being able to replicate each step and change the oil. Why have you failed to show the removal of the plastic engine splash guard?? It's not just you every single video I've found on CZcams fails to include this first step.rookie error !

    • @CoatsandGaiters
      @CoatsandGaiters  Před 2 lety +6

      Unfortunately the two MINI's I have didn't come with the splash guards. So I was unable to include those parts in the video's. I guess I could have purchased splash guards just for the video's, but the video's are meant to be on me working on my car's, and not meant to be official manufacture repair video's. I think most viewers find the content helpful even if incomplete, in some areas. I'm not a trained mechanic or videographer and I do mention this in my 'About Me' page. You might find the Bentley Publications book (ISBN 978-0-8376-1639-1) on the MINI better suited for your needs as it cover's more detail on model variations. Good luck anyway and hopefully your find a video or publication more suitable than my efforts.
