  • We insulate the white VW caddy maxi for under £100! In this video I will explain the process of insulating and show you how to insulate your campervan. I go through the process of removing the wall panels, cleaning the floor, thermawrapping the floor, cutting a new plywood floor using the old floor as a template. I then go on to show you how to install the recycled bottle plastic insulation and thermawrap over the top of this.

    Quick one, I see most people are placing the thermawrap sheet from Dodo (adhesive) directly over the sound deadening strips and then the recycled fleece over the middle layer. In your video you did it the other way around. Will there be any difference with regards to condensation if you do the order recommended by Dodomat?(ie fleece on outside as the 3rd layer? Which is best?

      @willsvanadventures  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey that's awesome glad it's helped! So since doing that van I'd say to use more insulation and better materials. I'd recommend doing sound deadening, insulation and then a vapour barrier which is the same process. However, I'd buy materials from dodomat, use a lot more sound deadening and for the insulation, use there adhesive liner and also the insulation. To stick the insulation to the van you can use adhesive spray along with the tape too. Hope that helps! 🙂

      Hi Mark,

And what is easy to access easy again in the future incase you need to make any changes. Sorry that doesn't help much haha it's a tricky one. I'd probably do the sound deadening, insulation, electrics and then therma barrier. But don't really think makes a big difference.

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, thanks for watching! And yep I've just looked and the price has gone way up! I'll get that title changed now haha thanks! But yeah you'd probs be looking at around £90 using the links I've put in the video. It all depends how much insulation you want. You could use 3 bags of the recycled bottle plastic which would add an extra £32 so would take you up to around £120. - But I'd only say you'd need this if you're going to be camping alot through the winter. (Really depends how cold you get personally).
      For the floor, I don't think it's worth doing the sound deadening. - On my British gas van I didn't do any sound deadening at tall and it's pretty quiet. So I've never really seen the point in spending the extra money. However if you have the budget then it will improve it just like anything. Hope that helps, trying to give an honest opinion. haha I'd say if you're a bit worried then put it in (and it should be super quiet) but the most noise is going to come from your cab and engine bay. And if you're worried about the cold then put as much insulation in as you can. - As once you start building you can't exactly go back and add more very easily. Best to do it now and be a bit hotter and crack a window then cold ahah.

    Heyyyy? Maybe a daft question but I’ve just bought my van and I’m going to start the conversion on my own so don’t know a thing. Is sound deadening and vapour barrier two different things? If so would I sound deaden the floor AND put a vapour barrier or just one or the other? Sorry I’ve my question seems so simple. Also if you know good brands to use that would be helpful xo

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey, sounds great! Glad you've bought a van, it's great! And not a daft question at tall, no question is as you'll never get the answer without asking :) yeah so you do need both a spindle deadening and then also a vapour barrier on top. You dont need a sound barrier but its makes it nicer. So the caper barrier stops the condensation and future rusting.
      So youd do the sound deadening first and then cover everything on the vapour barrier. I'm doing my next caddy and am using dodmatt sound deadening from combe valley campers. I wouldn't bother sound deadening the floor just do the wheel arches.
      Hope that helps :)
