there's waaaaay more reasons why the series in a state of stasis. Sega has not given up on the arcade market, in fact, games like maimai, chunithm and ONGEKI are extremely popular and still going. The main factors are that the director of the series (Tetsuya Ōtsubo) the guy that made diva F, Fnd and X left the company.
It's also stated that the series has a cost problem, it's really expensive to make a project diva PV, most of the original arcade songs are edit PVs made by the community. Project diva F2nd had a lot of reused dances, and X had only dance PVs (a lot of the dances were also recycled from the live concerts) AND ALSO Sega does less live projections for Cryption, it seems that Cryption is commissioning Sega as little as possible for their live shows, only doing it when its nessesary . So Sega basically doesn't really know what to do with project diva, it's nor really sustainable. However, Megamix completely surpassed Sega's sale expectations, so it's really hard to say that the series is completely over.

It is also an arcade game, can't have extra side features for something your meant to go in, pay money, play song, get high scores. That's the whole point

this video is cool but ngl there's so many missinformatoin / mixed info here like saying future tone is somehow the 4th project diva game (?) or randomly taking in that reusing animation is bad after talking about megamix+ when that's really a problem with project diva X, which came out 4 years earlier and was (correctly) critiqued for having the most boring pvs in the series, although the most probable reason for the death of the franchise is it's director leaving after X, with every game after being a port of the arcade port of the original game, which due to being based on the 1st project diva, feels really lacking in the engine visual department with an odd hyper-realistic flare that no other project diva game outside of ports (like dreamy theater) have tried on top of gameplay that barely contains updates to the 1st project diva's gameplay (which only has tap notes) in the form of quirky tap notes that fail at accomplishing the tasks of the note types it's meant to replace (doubles and holds)

The reason why they can’t make hit project diva games is simple: the Vocaloid Fandom changed.
1-Non-cryptonloid songs are more popular than ever. They can’t really make a PJD game without all of the non-cryptonloids, utaus, vsynths, etc. that so many people enjoy. Newer vocaloid fans who started stanning the fandom in 2022-2024 are used to liking VFlower, Gumi, Teto, Yuuki, etc. as much as the cryptonloids, and to a much higher degree than vocaloid fans who became fans in 2007-2021.
That, combined with the garbage reception of Virtual Singers in project sekai now that they’ve switched to Piapro studio, sort of contributed to shattering the cult like following that the Cryptonloids had above the rest of the Vocal synths. When you got PJD in its hay day, you knew you were getting the peak of popular vocaloid songs and even if Gumi or Gakupo weren’t involved, who cared? But nowadays getting a game that only has Cryptonloids can seem like an odd decision and a limitation to the new vocaloid fandom.
2- Having a good marketable song selection now is next to impossible. From 2009-2020, PJD was the very center of the community, so the second a song (other than like the least popular FT songs) were in Project Diva, they were well known! Project Diva fans who had played an earlier instalment of the game or even had just heard of the song list knew songs like Decorator, Kocchi Muite Baby, Sadistic Music Factory, etc. and they were glad to see them (except maybe Decorator, sorry Decorator) in the game when they bought the newest instalments (Unless you had bought X). But by SEGA not releasing a PJD game in so long, a TON of those songs that either came from PJD F2nd or Future Tone and who relied on being PJD songs to be popular are now almost completely irrelevant. How many new vocaloid fans do you know who found songs like Saihate, Sakura no Ame, Puzzle, Stargazer, etc. by means OTHER than PJD compilations? Not a lot. Imagine a newer fan buying a hypothetical new PJD game and expecting Kyoufuu All Back, Goodbye Sengen, Mesmerizer, etc. and being met with Even though my song as no form, ColorfulXSexy, Gemini, Starduster those Vocaloid Classics that the community did a terrible job at keeping alive. Why bother?
Now, you might say « they should just make brand new charts for hit songs like Rabbit Hole, Shoujo A, Aishite x3 and all of those popular Cryptonloid songs », and to that I tell you: X did that already. And you know what people said about it? The song selection was too short. They wanted their favorite Future Tone charts back. If X had been a smash hit, then SURELY megamix would’ve been called X2nd and would have had a unique song selection, but no. Cause Future Tone exists, Future Tone had more songs that the global 200 year end Billboard chart, Future Tone had so many songs that yall out there who have both Colorful Tone and Future Sound still probably haven’t cleared some of the songs, but people wanted what Future Tone did with years worth of content and franchise wide ports and officialized Edit MVs to be done again with 75% new charts in record time. I’m sorry, but if they start it now, your brand new song selection Project Diva X2nd with the Song Selection large enough to do arm wrestling with Future Tone will come out in 2030.

The last ambitious step from SEGA when it came to Project Diva was Project Diva X, but there were many mixed opinions on it (mostly regarding the song list, which could be a fault on SEGA's part, but they could've also been developing Future Tone PS4 at the time). This was probably the starting point of SEGA caring less and less (because Future Tone IS a port after all). I love the series and its sad to see Crypton/SEGA prioritize Proseka because some of the complaints of Diva X were still apparent but there are many corporate elements of the game that makes the engaging qualities of it feel so detached from the core gameplay. I'm glad that there are people out there who enjoy Project Sekai, but there's such a heavy emphasis on the Gacha that it's not for me and other Project Diva fans alike. SEGA has made their intentions clear (not only with Project Diva, but with other SEGA licenses too), they only care about money.

It seems like Sega doesnt really care about it’s rhythm game audience in general. Compared to Konami, where the E-Amusement pass can be used for lots of games, the Aime Card/Bandai Passport is barely useful as I have only been able to use the Bandai Namco Passport for Project Diva. Chunithms are very frequent in Round1s, but it’s an old version with barely any songs people will care about and it has no Bandai Passport connection. Maimai is slightly better where recently MaiMai DX machines have been tested in the USA, other than that, MaiMai Finale machines have only been in the USA, and the nearest one to me, is once again an old version with barely any good songs and no bandai passport connection. By far, Ongeki has it the worst, as there arent any attempts to bring it to the west IN ANY WAY. There is also Taiko no Tatsujin, which is a mix of Chunithm and MaiMai’s situation. It does appear often in Round1s, but only as an old version, however, there are considerations of releasing in the west in arcades, since Taiko no Tatsujin has been released on consoles before. But still, it seems like Sega is playing favorites by preferring to publisize some games over others.

    • @fevernight123
      @fevernight123 Před měsícem

The games are popular in Asian countries, not in the US. it's expensive to bring those machines to the US and also have it localized. Sega is very much still in the rhythm game business, and they hold tournaments and updates almost every month for their rhythm games. Just because we don't get the games doesn't mean it's not working or Sega doesn't care about their games its just that we are not the market, and we don't make up enough people to justify them spending millions on bringing machines that might not make enough. Only way to truly experience these games is to travel to Japan or pirate the hell out of them....

Different people worked on the f series than worked on the arcade series. Since the director stepped down after diva x, all that was left was the arcade team to preserve what the f series left behind. My only issue is just go out with a bang, port everything, keep edit mode (even though I know there was issues with its implementation), and provide more exex charts to the pda songs. They don’t have to make new pvs but they are missing many edit dlc that was in dt, dlc from diva psp, and mirai songs. It doesn’t have to be this carbon copy of pdaft and rely on it for its own dlc. It’s just unfortunate that the pc port leaves much more to desire and just have to be modded in order to even be worth the price point

  • @ImSumGuy

I'm at least glad that MM+ is easily moddable, like it had a few hiccups modding on release because of artificial limits Sega had on release, but the only limitations now are covers (an easy solution exists mind you, by scanning text files and copying data to a master list, I just haven't seen anyone make it), and that there's no "classic" gameplay option. But in terms of adding songs, modules, and PVs, its easy to extend the game. I have over 1500 songs and play with an arcade controller so I'm happy with MM+ still.

Issues are funding and licences to songs mostly.
Artist want to be compensated for the songs in the game, not ripped of work the hard work and talent only for sega to say, miku is owned by us.
I think the project diva series should diversify onto different artists and singers not only vocaloid. Sekai can have access to everyone and diva is just crypton?
Even a Project Diva Z, just to say Y was megamix, with teto, gumi and flower as new members. We have synth v teto already blowing the charts with mesmerizer, almost at 70million. Imagine the crowd attention for a well done pv similar to the original. There are ways and the vocaloid community is not dead. You can see artist like guchiry, kanaria, harumakigohan, satsuki, and sohbana rise with some great songs, with steady views or more like original vocaloid songs from wowoka, tohma, and samfree.
Usually every new game consoles comes with 1 diva game, example ds, ps vita, vita slim, ps3 ps3 slim, Nintendo switch, ps4 and ps4 pro. Maybe a new game for the ps5 with 4K 60-120fps? It’s just a idea

Honestly even if people have done everything in the game it would still be fun, while in Project Sekai you can’t even get all the cards you want even if you pull a 100 times.
