    I'm a long-time tennis player (30+ years), just finding out about pickleball. Looks like a lot of fun. The only thing I'm confused about is the two-handed backhand. It's such a light ball + racket/paddle, plus you have more reach, range and flexibility with a one-handed backhand. Tennis players usually adopt a two-hander at a young age because it's easier to control the racket. But I don't get it for pickleball. Maybe they were tennis players before and it just feels more comfortable? Anyway, thanks for posting. I've gotta try this game.

      Agreed. I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure why people are using a two-handed backhand in pickle ball with such a light ball.

      The topspin generated with a two hand backhand is tremendous.

    • @WowThatISIT
      @WowThatISIT Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely comfort is a factor. As a coach, I find some new players, certainly those with tennis experience, prefer a 2 hander for topspin backhands deep in the court for the added power and control. Personally, I find it easier to put the ball where I want to with a 2 handed backhand. I coach and generally introduce both styles and just allow the player to experiment and find which shot they prefer. A 2h backhand is still fine for pickleball, don't let the size of the court make you think otherwise. Slice backhands are generally performed with one hand. I'll even use a 2 handed swinging topspin backhand volley on higher, slower moving balls.

    • @LearnMusclescom
      @LearnMusclescom Před 3 lety +2

      I am also a long-standing tennis player and I have wondered the same thing. Perhaps the person who said it might be comfort for a tennis player who is accustomed to using two hands for their backhand. I had a one-handed backhand in tennis so that is what I use in pickleball. I do think you are right though about reach. Another common thing in pickleball is players who switch hands holding the paddle. I have to think that some of these habits will disappear as the sport matures. Great game!

      You can make a point for a small percentage there. But for me this is a chance to play again and be competitive at a similar game. I played well in high school, not good enough for a big college and that's ok. But for 30 years after it was harder and harder to find people to play tennis. I skoffed at the pickleball until I played it. I can always find a game, and am having fun levelling up. This is more of an advantage in PB for skill over sheer power, as in tennis you can dominate players with serve and volley force. The funny moments are when you look at a new drop in opponent and think it's gonna be easy. Then you are surprised when they play great angles, have super quick hands, and have deep strategy. It's a fun game, give it a try and comment again. You might enjoy it!

      perhaps because this is a new sport and PICKLEBALL players have not have the time to develop the same way that athletes in most other sports have. I do understand that the best PICKLEBALL players are not as "great" as the best tennis players or the best table tennis players, etc. But give this sport time and give the players time to play competitively against each other to have the benefit of the competition to become better and better. In the meantime, I think we can appreciate how well these players are playing, especially for a new sport...

      @@true3dtours297 Again... such condescension from tennis players... Pickleball is not where tennis players go to die. It is where, for older tennis players go to be rejuvenated. Sure. the court is smaller so there is less running. And the ball is slower so there are fewer hard put away shots. But this requires greater patience and strategy AND precision on the part of the players. And not being able to go to net also requires dimking/drop shots that requires tremendous precision. I have played tennis for decades and I grant that pickleball is "easier" to play as you get older. But it has its own merits that make it a fascinating game. And perhaps she plays because she likes it. I invite you to send us to your videos of your wonderful racquet talent.

      @@viveknamikaze761 What condescension... People on the internet feel such liberty to be rude and dismissive. It is true that pickleball is "easier" to play than tennis. The court is smaller and the ball is slower. But that also means that it is harder to hit a put away shot, so placement has to be that much more precise. Rallies go longer and strategy is that much more important. And not being able to go to the net means that drop shots (dinks) are extremely important, and therefore precision is that much more important. I invite you to play pickleball with advanced players to find this out.

      @@LearnMusclescom I play badminton/tennis on a division level and have tried pickleball, padel, innebandy and all those sports and though the pro level players are good, there is no way in hell that you can compare it to the mainstream sports they were derived from.
      Pickleball has a much easier learning curve which makes it easy for a lot of non sporty people and absolute beginners to enjoy the feeling of playing a sport. Tennis is unforgiving in that aspect which is why I mentioned that. I know what Im talking about.

    For pickleball to grow and dominate the modern world, it should position itself as a non-gendered sport.
    Men's and Women's tennis is the product of old thinking.
    Pickleball is a fundamentally equal sport. Let men and women play singles matches together!
    May the best player win.

    • @alexpeterson5829
      @alexpeterson5829 Před 2 lety +1

      I like your progressive way of thinking, but uh, no. Men hit the ball much harder than women in tennis and in pickleball, which gives them a decided advantage from the get go. So unless you're pitting the top ranked women's pickleball player against a very low ranked men's player, the male player is going to come out on top just about every time. Btw, I play pickleball several times a week against both men and women players, so I'm not theorizing here about the sport.
