When my dog was over run with cancer ( after 2 surgeries), I took her to her favorite river spot one last time to play fetch before taking her to be put down. She swam her heart out collasped on shore. She died in my arms, doing what she loved at her favorite place in the world.
This reminded me of her... sorry to be downer but thought id share... miss her and couldn't have asked for a better blessing

Something similar happened to a family member's Black Lab. She suddenly rolled over in the water. They had to go in and get her. She survived. Apparently she had a seizure.
As crazy as this may sound, I would give my Life to save my DOG, you best believe that!

Like I have never seen a dog act like that before so it had to be health related. Think God the owner was able to grab his dog before anything else happened.

Well, to begin with, throwing that huge, heavy stick so far out into the water caused the dog to possibly drown, but so glad the dog was revived!

Expose animals in smaller creeks or places where they can touch the ground at first. A 17 year old dog can easily drown due to age and other factors.

This was a yellow lab, and they were bred to retrieve hunted game from water, such as ducks. It’s in their blood, and their bodies have adapted to be nearly perfect in the water. Just like for people, accidents and unexpected medical events can happen with dogs whether they’re in water or on land.
My heart stopped for a moment, I got so emotional when I thought he was dead. I can see your love for your dog when you ran in and picked him up. I’m glad that he is doing well.

The guy made a crucial mistake….he threw in a stick way to thick causing the dogs mouth to be more open inhaling too much water. Handier is reason dog almost died. Not a hero…great he saved him…on his mistake.

When dogs catch things in the water, the water goes straight down into their lungs and they can drown. It can happen even after they get home, it's called "dry drowning" when there's a delay. It has happened to humans too. (Look it up.)

This is an exaggeration. Entire breeds have been created around retrieving things from the water. Just give them plenty of rest in between throws and be careful with the distance.

If you had turned your eyes for a second, you wouldn’t have known where he went. Happened to me with my son at the beach. He barely left a ripple. God’s Grace that they both survived.

I lost my Best Friend Molly this summer. She was an Australian Sheperd. I got her from a farm in Wertz, Va. Not too far from my home. Pups were listed in local paper 4 $200 each. My youngest Son & I headed out & after 2hours finally found it. I told my Son to pick out 1st one that came to him. The man ended up giving her to us. My older Son & me trained her and she was best dog I ever had. She died this summer with her head in my lap as I stroked her & told her what a good girl she was. We buried her in our back yard & I put flowers on her grave from my garden every year. I still call for her to come play ball.😢
I had to cry at this story. My best friend and pet Lacey was a red Merle. Sharp as a tack and so well trained. Her first owner had a stroke. No one in his family wanted her. They dropped her off at the Humane Society. Another guy adopted her. She had to be mourning her first companion. The second guy, decided after 2 months he didn't want her. The wife's dog "didn't get along with Lacey". The first time we met her, she wasn't a very happy dog, no lie. But she would play ball, fixated as they get. The young guy said we were the first family, of 4 others to see her that she took interest in. She went home with us. She was only 2. She came out of her shell, had the best life she ever could have in her forever home finally. We loved her to death. She could do all the typical tricks, plus flip. She passed away at 15. The vet could do nothing more for her when she jumped to lean her paws on my waist to greet me when I came home. Her rear feet slid along the laminate and took her down, hurting her hip/leg. She couldn't walk. Allowing her to be put to sleep was the absolute hardest, most heartbreaking thing I had ever had to do, after every possible treatment t they would offer for 2 weeks. I grieved for a very long time. That was 8 years ago. I now have another Aussie. I will never own another breed again.

I noticed a difference in the pup when was swimming back, he was very slow and it appeared he was struggling to keep his head up out of the water. Quick response dad, hope the family is doing great.

Glad he save his dog, he swallowed to much water and was slowly drowning trying to bring back the stick. Hope he was ok after he went back home!

My dog is old and has a heart disease, I can't remember how many time's he has passed out and I have revived him. I take him everywhere with him cause I'm afriad to leave him alone. So glad the owner acted quite and rescued him fur baby. ❤❤

Me paso en muchas oportunidades, revivía a nuestro Chihuahua, se ahogaba y se desplomaba y yo le daba respiración artificial a través de mis dos manís juntas, un 24 de diciembre fuimos a cenar donde un familiar y regresamos el 25 y fue horrible verlo muero en la cama de mi hijo y los gritos de negación de mi hijo... creo que nunca lo superamos, fue una pérdida

Someone in the thread here said they looked up the story… I guess the dog is 11 years old and took in too much water, swimming back to shore, that’s why the guy went out and grabbed him and saved him.

Dogs are like humans, they can tire out, choke on water or get muscle cramps. You must pay close attention to them at all times. These are great responsible owners! God Bless!

It actually looked like the dog was having a mild seizure, my husky used to get them. The facial tremors looked similar. If so there is a simple pill that can help and have them back and running and playing in no time.

My five year old yellow lab had the same thing happen while swimming in a cold river. Had a seizure ,pulled her out board stiff. 5 min later seemed fine but had 3-4 more over the next 5 years then nothing her last 5. Miss her.

When the dog raised up out of the water the last time, he clenched his jaw, and released it just before he fell over in the water. He had a seizure at the least or a minor heart attack. I’m glad for the owner that he came out of it to consciousness. I hope you got him checked out.
I'm guessing Exercise Induced Collapse. Symptoms are identical to this video and it's not uncommon in Labs.

@@tracy406 my dog experiences this. He’s been active his whole life and it wasn’t until he got older 7-8 years old that he will collapse every now and then when his breathing gets out of rhythm. He goes limp for a few seconds but snaps out of it soon after.

I’ve jumped in front of a ups truck to prevent him from hitting my dog which had run to greet me, and I’ve jumped in a deeper creek fully clothed to rescue my puppy who was fascinated with the water and misjudged the depth before I could get to him (we were hiking). As a bulldog all I could think is he may not be able to swim. I’d do it over and over again for him. Even though it was terrifying to think I wouldn’t get there in time. His life jacket is arriving today.

I had a elderly dog, he has passed away at 17. For the last few years I didn't take him swimming even though he loved it. He liked to swim out very far and I knew I could never get to him in time and even if I did, I didn't know if I would have the strength to save him. RIP George, you were one of the great ones. I miss you terribly.😢
My Siberian husky had the same name ! I was eight when I got him as a pup and we rarely ever parted ! He lived to 14 and died in his sleep .... I'm 63 and still remember all the good times we had together, we were both lucky ! I miss you buddy.
You never forget the great ones my friend. My wish is that both of our George's are swimming in heaven and we will join them one day.

Our 15 year old pitbull loves to swim. Ever since she turned 10 and had to have both of her CCL's fixed, we put a doggie life vest on her. The water is an excellent low impact exercise for her back hocks, but she's not physically very buoyant.
@HEMI-MOMMA yeah pitbulls swim like anchors dragging an anchor. Can be stressful just watching. That said my PBS always want to jump in the pool. Like every single pit I've owned. I find it odd because any other dog immediately knows if they're a bad swimmer and will stay well away.
