"Buhari has done a terrible job as President of Nigeria"- Bishop Matthew Kukah

  • Yesterday, the Presidency of Nigeria reacted to the criticism of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah, who in his Easter message titled, 'To mend a broken nation: The Easter metaphor', had alleged that every aspect of life in the country had been destroyed while corruption was enthroned under President Muhammadu Buhari.
The bishop, who also criticised the president over his government's "inability to tackle insecurity and corruption", further claimed that President Buhari had divided Nigerians on the basis of ethnicity, religion, and region.
In a press release by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, he said that "For a man who has been spreading hate for decades, nothing new in the homily, except for the fact that while millions of Christians were remembering the Lord's crucifixion on Friday, His descent on Saturday, His resurrection on Sunday, and subsequent appearance to his disciples, Bishop Matthew Kukah was playing politics. From his pulpit he devoted his Easter message not to Christ's death and rebirth so Man might be saved - but to damning the government in the most un-Christian terms.
Our guest is Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah, from Sokoto State of Northern Nigeria.

Bishop Kukah is a blessing to Nigeria - North and South! A man with understanding of the now. Your exposition on Caesar and God is excellent. God is sovereign over peoples, government and money! "Conscience is an open wound, only the Truth can heal it". I am a Muslim, but if there is one Christian leader I respect so deeply, it's Bishop Kukah. Candid, Open minded and Honest especially on Public issues. I like the way he put Femi and Garba in their rightful places. I also remember vividly in 2016 he made the comment about the fight against corruption and making sure the Economy shouldn't suffer...BMC guys went berserk but how ironic he's now been validated.
May God help Nigeria but President Buhari has done a pretty terrible job especially as it relates to the Economy and the Unity of the country. Let's hope 2023 ushers in a new dawn.

I appreciate your candour but I don't share your optimism about 2023. You and I need to do so much more than hope. We need to take position, opposition and challenge the status quo. The future of Nigeria is at the very least bleak. We need to stand up to determine what that future ought to look like. A future we cannot see clearly is not promised to us. At this stage of Nigeria's evolution, we need a vision of the nation we need our children and their children will grow old in. Will they live? Will they live long enough to be proud of the sacrifices this generation would have made? Are we going to make these needed sacrifices?

President Buhari lacks ability to manage Diversity, he is so tribalistic, and this is one reason why the economy is suffering, we have security problems and the government has failed, everyone in a society should be carried along, anyone who has studied diversity under social studies would tell you this, it looks very insignificant but it carries a lot of weight in every society.

Go back to the 44 page political Manifestó of the Buhari administration coming into office and ask yourselves what have they achieved on it. Then ask them to account for their failures before you decide to vote in 2023. Their report card should be based on their successful completion of Manifestó items. Would you promote the APC if their peformance is an F? You couldn't chance Nigeria if you did so. Come on Nigerians, in a democracy, you, the People, are in charge. Demostrarte your power to change things by letting your vote count. Vote in a government that is accountable to you and hold them accountable every step of the way. I my self have gone through the whole of that speech and the fact is: anyone who finds fault in bishop kukahs speech is seriously suffering from amnesia and should go see a psychiatrist for that. Lack of comprehension is what is worrying that gullible sycophant and to think that he is a presidential spokesperson is what is instigating the more. His lordship you have said it all because this country is completely broken and it takes only the grace of God for it to be revived. And that can only happen if we Nigerians our way especially our politicians so to say.

Wow!!! Bishop Kukah, my hubby forwarded this to me and he texted underneath it that if I dont read any other article again this week, this interview should make my wee, and it actually did. God made you for this period, and he will continually strengthen and protect you father Kukah, the voice of the voiceless.

The writing was on the wall,Nigerians brought all this hardship and killing on themselves,l'm afraid to say.ln this Nigerian democracy,we learn from mistakes and not repeat the same thing hopefully. Buhari that did nothing, said nothing in benue and the middlebelt killings in his first term as president yet nigerians queued in their thousand like sheep for the slaughter house and voted him for a second term. What do they expect? That action alone, of voting buhari again is an endorsements for killings, kidnapping and banditry..Now nigerians have another chance to change it for the better in 2023,will they or still dance along to sweet words of deceptions and vote same, old system?Well done to Mr. kukah sir for speaking up against clueless, incompetent leadership.
