    More from Jackie. "When I'm putting the first layer of colours down, I often lay them in with a sponge or a loaded brush so the layer is spontaneous and there is no need to re-coat . If I want the area to be transparent , I would just thin the underglaze or maybe use a flat brush to lay down an area of colour. The white slip which was the initial layer on the red earthenware helps the underglaze colours to be bright and also there was a layer of white underglaze that I painted after putting the stencils down. If I had left the black and not covered it with the white underglaze, the colours would have been dulled down . Under painting does influence the colour that goes on top and is not always predictable until you get used to the particular underglaze that you are using. I get surprises but that is part of the fun. "

    Thanks every one, we are in the middle of a three day snow storm/ blizzard in some areas of Nova Scotia. Time to hunker down and make pots.

    I love this. I have a couple of questions. Did the colors come out so bright because you painted the white underneath? It appears each time you only did one coat of anything, is that true? And when you did a color over a color, still just one coat? Pretty much last color shows? They are beautiful.

      What kind of underglaze do you use?

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 5 měsíci +1

      We use any kind, they all mix and blend together, as long as they are for greenware. The ones for bisque tend to melt and go glossy in the bisque firing.@@malinwaldestal1813
