    The 'official' campaigns I view as semi-complete. A showcase of what the dungeon builder can do. The real value of the game is the community custom campaigns. For that reason, I wholeheartedly enjoy this game and will continue to support the developer. As long as they keep on adding to the dungeon builder, this game is a 'must-have' in your library.

    Well okay... First thing on saves. When you overwrite a file it tells you exactly where the save file is stored. Simply go to that folder, change the game to Original (or whatever) and create a new folder called Saves. Boom 50 more saved games. Rinse and repeat, especially you "creators" can have 50 saves per level or more if you want, just make the name something you understand. (looking at you BraveHeart). As far as graphics, they are acceptable, its nice how they include the characters in the scenes though.
    Now for the main problem, I like that choices have ramifications, you should be punished for going against a faction. As you are doing it you chose to continue to fight even as you saw your status with the Dominion fall. But there is no option to run away so no so much your fault. The problem I have is that you are sometimes damned upon simply choosing the quest. No choice just boom you can drop from +100 to -70 with no warning simply by taking a quest, your actions or decisions about your actions are not important. Sometimes I was forced into killing when I wanted to take a different path.
    I think the thing to remember is that this is a very small dev team. With that they have created an exceptional game as far as mechanics goes, but are still developing the game. I marvel how they have managed to come up with things like spiderclimb and such.

      Thank you for the feedback. My thoughts:
      True I can create a new folder but these reviews are for regular consumers not content creators. Most people buying this game have no intention of creating new folders to hold on to their saves.
      Like you mentioned the graphics are what they are and it's not a major concern regarding Solasta.
      I like when choices have ramifications but in this DLC I think the consequences start before the player could reasonably make a decision regarding what faction they want to follow.
      I definitely give the team credit for what they have been able to accomplish. It's funny because some comments here and on my Crown of the Magister review say that I am way too easy on them and should be more critical of the game. LOL

    The Random encounters do not scale to your level. When you first hit the map at about level 3 you are in real danger. It feels much like the encouter tables in the rules cyclopedia from 1st edition. I love it.

    The magic item thing is just a 5e in practice. Too many passive buffs of any type break the system wide open due to bounded accuracy and the like.

    • @SlanderedGaming
      @SlanderedGaming  Před 2 lety +1

    You have a main story plot, to find the dude from the caravan. You hope 1 of the factions might tell you where he is.
    In the first story, I think its the personality you chose for your companions that made them come off as incompetent.

    • @SlanderedGaming
      @SlanderedGaming  Před rokem +1

      That's a task, not a story plot. A plot evolves as you get further into the game. In the first story I chose different personalities for all of my companions so I don't think that's the problem but it could be. I had a good time with both games regardless.

      It is, 5th edition is known for giving out way less magical items and items in general than previous editions. In fact magical items are completely optional for DMs to use.

    Disappointing to hear about the story. Still, with the extra tools available with the free patch, user-created narrative adventures are now possible, so it could be that good stories will come from that in the future. Will no doubt grab this at some point, but I don't feel compelled to do so immediately.

      The Dungeon Maker has been available for ages and there are already many excellent player created adventures available on Steam and Nexus. The big addition with the latest patch is quest hubs. The Lost valley DLC adds several new environments and many new monsters and magical items to the DM. I know that several players who had access to the Beta uploaded entire campaigns with the new additions yesterday. Silverquick is particularly good at recreating classic tabletop campaigns and Vel is another excellent creator, who makes original and very challenging campaigns.

    Another Solasta already? Huh. Kind of annoyed that the previous DLC was a bit high in price given that it borderline should've been FreeLC or content that was simply behind schedule in the first place. UI was somewhat friendly and enjoyable, but it's really hard playing these low-level characters with fewer classes after trying the Pathfinder stuff and the spicier, out-of-control madness they get into. They're almost opposites in a way.
    Man I still want Solasta to be good, but characters are so wooden and the early side plot where no one thought to save evidence that the lizard monsters exist, like really??? Like come on, game...

    • @SlanderedGaming
      @SlanderedGaming  Před 2 lety +3

      LOL Yeah I enjoy Solasta a lot for what it provides but there are definitely opportunities for improvement.

    • @Cervando
      @Cervando Před 2 lety +1

      I think the Lost Valley DLC is excellent value, as it adds a full campaign and many new environments, monsters and magical items for content creators. The DLC also adds 1 new sub class for every class, including the Druid and Barbarian from the previous DLC, for a total of 4 each. My main issue with Pathfinder is that at higher levels combat gets ridiculous, whilst it is always fun in Solasta. But, there are free mods on Nexus that add multi-classing and new classes for Solasta, if you need more variety, and have been tested and tweaked to play rock solid.

    • @mtaur4113
      @mtaur4113 Před 2 lety

      @@Cervando I would pick up both together for $10 I think, but I'm still annoyed about the first DLC, and I have my hands full with Pathfinder anyway. Still a respectable game with its own take on things, a bit straight-laced but confident about what it's trying to be. Character models feel a little blobby and outdated up close though.

    • @Cervando
      @Cervando Před 2 lety +1

      @@mtaur4113 Lol, you should have seen the DLC in beta 🤣 The female dwarve's NPC mouths opened so wide they could swallow a pig whole during cut scenes. But yes they don't compare to BG3, but overall I think Solasta is actually more fun because the combat is so good.
      The new DLC is definitely worth the asking price, whatever your concerns about the first one. The first DLC is also reduced just now, but not as much as the actual game.
