    For me, the Saramonic is a loser. It is huge relative to the competition and it lacks on-board recording which is a must-have feature for new wireless systems. Worst of all is the audio quality, which trails both DJI and Rode regardless of whether you're using a lav mic or not. IMO, the DJI remains the clear best choice with its small size and superior sound quality. What I'd like to see DJI do with their next iteration is add 32 bit floating point audio, eliminating the need to even set recording levels at all.

  • @lazid1957
    @lazid1957 Před rokem +5

    So many say it has no onboard recording is a huge factor for not buying it.
    But for my understanding there is a litlle screen on the receiver where you can
    check if the two transmitters are working.
    So for me the different price is the gamechanger.
    I bought the ProX for 230 € and there are 2 cavalier mics + the charging box included.
    One rode cavalier mic is about 50 €. The Set is about 320 € So together it's 420,-€ (no charging box)
    That's a big argument for me.
    And the sound of the ProX with the external mic you showed was great.
    So no question about the choice.

    Thanks for the review and other useful reviews, I have some questions about this kit, will a locking lav mic (that has a locking thread for a tascam or other device) properly connect with it? I use a DPA which has a lock thread and it works with the Rode Go, but not the DJI for example. Also if you are conversing with someone say 1 or 2 meters away how much do you pick up each others voice? Obviously it will vary , but I would like to use it for a mobile podcast / interview type setting. Thanks.

    I use the Rode Smart Lav+ w/ the DJI Wireless Mic and it sounds GREAT! I like using +6DB on both the transmitter & receiver for iPhone use. I like how compact the DJI mic is and love how much more versatile it is than all the other mics. It comes with a Lightning adapter, USB-C adapter & 3.5MM adapter to use in every situation. Also, it's soooo small. Easy to hide and hold. Love that it has a clip and magnets to clamp on. As I said, I use the Roade Smart Lav+ and just hide the cable under my shirt and hide the transmitter on my belt or in my pocket. What I also LOVEEEE about the DJI Mic is that the reciever can start & stop the recording w/ a press of a button. Be sure to test that before starting though, it can sometimes not work if the mic & receiver aren't synced properly out of the charging case or if it's standing too long. That start/stop functionality works with the iPhone & DJI Action Cams. I haven't tried the button press on a camera yet, but I'd venture to bet it will work too.

I am okay with 100 meter distance and 4-5 hours of charge. Main concern is the white noise and wind/waterfall/traffic noise. I do lots of videos in the wild. Thanks.

    thanks for doing this test! appreciate your content and just subscribed : ] interesting the saramonic has the line level input, nice feature. couple questions if you dont mind:
    - do either of the Saramonics offer the safety track feature? really like this on the DJI system, and lot of the comparable wireless units do not offer it.
    - to clarify, when you say no onboard recording, does this mean it records straight to camera without localizing a copy on the reciever?
    seems every video I watch re: the Rode system indicates its just over-engineered unfortunately. illogical charging system, the adapters, the horrible proprietary system to download media from Rx, the overpriced lav mics, etc : [ maybe they'll get it right with the IIIs? 🤷

If Saramonic comes out with a system that offers on-board recording at still an attractive price point, I will definitely consider. On-board recording is the fail-safe and a risk not everyone is willing to take, knowing that there are other systems out there that offer this fail-safe.

  • @t0nyxgq
    @t0nyxgq Před rokem +1

    Thanks for the informative video. Just on note... Please don't say "quite a bit smaller" when the footage is showing that it's pretty much the same size when the new ProX is maybe just a tad thinner. DJI is "quite a bit smaller" than Rode.
    The wired lavs for the ProX also clearly sounds worse, capturing more of the higher frequency ambience, making it sound like a lesser quality mic and by far has the loudest background noise captured. The mic on the ProX gives a fuller sound with more low end emphasis but a little too full compared to the rode and dji.
    Also the Saramonic is huge compared to the DJI, both size of tx/rx units and the case. Coming in at $300 vs. $329, the DJI is the better unit because you get much more for $30.
    I don't mean to be picky and point out points of criticism. I hope you take it as constructive and not me trying to be an a$$ about it. I just felt this wasn't an honest A/B/C comparison and it seems like it's favoring the Saramonic and something is pointing me to the very first sentence of this video.

    The sound sounds muffled. I don't like it. Keep in mind that someone could buy a high quality lav and hook it up to any one of these mini wireless systems and would more than likely get better audio. I think what is most important for these systems is looking at how they fair in distance/behind wall or with objects in the way, battery life, built in amp quality and on board mic quality.

    Nice review, as always, even if sponsored :) Well, I did like the original Blink 500 which I recently replaced by the Rode Wireless Go II. I was looking at the newer Saramonics that improved significantly since the first iteration. However, having onboard recording is a gamechanger/lifesaver, call it whatever. Yesterday we were shooting interviews at a trade show, and my phone camera was handled by someone else. I only later realised that the app had not been changed to the USB mic source and all it recorded was the inbuilt phone mic. In the noise at the expo it was unusable. But: I could simply download the audio from the mic (TX) that was right in front of the onterviewees, held on the Interview Go. I don't think I will ever buy another similar, 2.4GHz wireless mic sys without onboard recording.

And the USB-C receiver won't fit a Galaxy with anything more than a slim case. Just another example of engineers not thinking things through.

    I like Saramonic, I’ve been using the UWmic10 kit since mid 2017 (UWmic9 in the US) and despite a few quirks it has been a fantastic budget wireless system over the years but I can’t believe Saramonic didn’t include a back up recording option of some sort on this update. It’d be like releasing a camera today that doesn’t at least shoot 4K 30p. In my opinion that was really the main, if not only, thing they had to ‘fix’ about their ‘blink’ system to keep it relevant in today’s market.
    And they could have been at the top of today’s market if they’d somehow managed to add a 32 bit float back up recording option on their transmitters even at extra cost or as a ‘Pro+’ version or whatever. If they did that then I’d definitely get this kit over the DJI Mic despite the other aspects DJI system I prefer but without any backup recording feature at all in 2022 (well 2023 now) it’s a deal breaker for me unfortunately.

    Lack of onboard recording for the Blink is a deal breaker- regardless of it's other advantages over the Rode and DJI. Also, kudos to you for an "HONEST" review. The fact that you acknowledged Blink's lack of onboard recording speaks volumes about your integrity as a reviewer.

    Those mics are gigantic! Looks like you are wearing a cell phone. You can buy something 1/4 the size and 1/8 the price on Amazon. And with near identical sound quality.

    I think you just can't do that. Never and never. Let devices that you have been sponsored compete against others. Bad taste always remains.

    I felt that the rode and Dji sounded better.. I’m still on the fence between those two,, I’m still reviewing them to decide on a purchase
