- I'm back with testing sketchbooks so YOU don't have to! Today I'm testing the Articka Note Sketchbook. It looks like an Illo Sketchbook dupe. Is it? Let's find out! I'll be using an assortment of different art supplies ranging from colored pencils to acrylic paints. This sketchbook states it's for dry media, but I'll show you how it performs for wet media since I was curious, and I'm sure you are too! :)

Add us to the crowd who appreciates these product evaluations! We're happy that sketchbook finally made it off the shelf to fulfill its purpose. We think the scale and proportion are great, big enough to make some art, but still portable. Unfortunately, according to the manufacturer's comments on the product listing the paper is not acid-free, but if your sketchbooks are more for "the now" than for the ages, it looks like a really nice item! For real. Mira Is awesome, every time I’m in a situation where I’m nervous or scared I watch her and she distracts my mind and makes me feel at peace and comfortable. I had a terrible day today and watching her just helps!
I bought this sketchbook several months ago by accident (I had wanted a different brand and it wasn't available) and loved it so much that I bought the other size. Now I have both the 8" x 8" and the 10" x 10" and I LOVE THEM BOTH!!! I do a lot of line and wash type pictures and while this isn't a watercolour paper sketchbook, that's what I've used it for. Yes, it does buckle a little bit, but I love it because the pen I use (a Copic multiliner) seems to slide across the paper and I've done some really good drawings in this book, better than when I draw on watercolour paper. I've become a bit addicted to this sketchbook and already thinking about buying new ones, even though I've still got plenty of paper left. I have been looking and most of the other sketchbooks have only half the paper count for the same price. I literally have nothing bad to say about this sketchbook. I've looked into the Illo sketchbook, which I had never heard of until I Googled the Articka, wanting to know more about it, and the Illo was mentioned. I'm in the UK and the Illo seems to be available in the US, and all of their sketchbooks (the ones similar to the Articka) were sold out. We all have our favourites, but I will always be supportive of these Articka sketchbooks. Just a note ~ I think there are other sketchbooks better suited for colouring pencils, but since I'm not using mine for that purpose, it doesn't bother me. LOVE the Articka!!!

Yeah, I'm mostly a watercolor girl, so I was tempted to try it, but I'll definitely skip it now. Thanks. I haven't tried many sketchbooks, but I'm starting to believe mixed media means everything but watercolor.
IDK if you haven't tried it before but I just bought some Stabilo Boss markers are they are SO JUICY and they look like watercolors. I love them! I definitely need to use up the art supplies I already have like you!!! but I found my new favorite.

I have been using an Articka sketchbook for a while now, and I have noticed Poscas seem to work pretty well. I also enjoy using markers and pens. I tried some light watercolor but as you said the paper seems to buckle. I think I will try an Illo sketchbook in the near future (if I can get one😂) Those stickers turned out beautiful!! This sketchbook seems really good, I was tempted to get an illo when everyone was raving about them but just couldn’t justify the cost
There’s been recent reviews about 12 months ago about illo sketchbook and that the paper has changed and isn’t great

I was just considering this sketchbook, I'm so happy you reviewed it. I noticed it had high arms from Amazon reviewers. Personally I love a sketchbook that is full of buckled and imperfe t pages, it's oddly satisfying to me. By the way, I love the new stickers!

That toadstool is super cute. I didn't know about the paper types and weights. I'll be honest I don't really understand what that means to be so many pound paper. But I feel like I better understand what smooth paper is now. Every time I've tried to get an illo sketchbook they've been sold out. Still trying to figure out what sketchbook works best for me so this video was useful.
Paper weight basically relates to thickness, so a lower weight paper will be thinner and a heavier weight paper will be thicker. Heavier papers are better for wet media and lighter, thinner papers are better for quick sketches and studies. I hope that helps.

I got this just to have a cheap quick warm up, thumbnail and studies. It’s pretty good for what I need. I use watercolor, colored pencils and alcohol markers and for all those I have really nice designated sketchbooks for them, and I hate using the higher quality paper in those for little stuff. The paler is super smooth which I normally don’t like but it’s been great for mechanical pencils. It’s cheap and great for what I use it for but I didn’t expect more than that for the price. I will get the spiral bound one once this one I already bought is finished.

Here in southern-east Europe, unfortunately we don't have many options for sketchbooks. Also Moleskine's paper isn't any good any more. Actually I don't like it at all. That leaves us with 2 options. One is the Sakura/Talens and the other is the Canson 180. The Sakura has a a very smooth paper, designed for markers mainly , that isn't the best quality but for the price is ok. On the other hand, the Canson 180 is way better in terms of quality. It has a better binding that allows it to stay open flat ( 180 degrees) has better dimensions compared to the Sakura and way better quality paper and tooth (surface).The only negative the Canson 180 has, is that the paper is on the thin side.
If anybody else, has to suggest a better one, please do! If the Canson had a thicker paper, that would be the absolutely perfect Sketchbook for me!!! ( I do both sketches and drawings, using mostly Pencils (Graphite, Red Chalk/Sanguine, Sepia, Polychromos )
Have you checked out kattvalk or, I'm blanking on her channel name right now but her first name is Melanie. She does a lot of studio ghibli gouache paintings. But they're both located in Europe and have recommended a few sketchbooks over time!

dont think you can get any of them over here in Scotland without ordering them, Seawhite branded books are the cheaper sketchbooks here, not sure if they have a square sketchbook tho. of course you get the big name brand sketchbook here too. probably get more choice in the big supplier chains down in London

I use this to test out ideas before painting a canvas. I think it is a solid notebook to be so cheap (and it goes on sale a lot).

That seems pretty common. I have achieved SABLE (stash accumulated beyond life expectancy), got rid of tons of things, and am back to SABLE after a few "good sales" and finding new projects I want to do. I have gotten a lot better over the years though. All my supplies for everything are contained in one room and are organized!
I have a Royal Talens sketchbook coming this week, but I found some Elsjoy Kraft Sketchbooks, that comes in a 3 pack that arrives tomorrow. I have this sketchbook your using in this video also. Plus a Strathmore Tan Toned, and a very affordable no name brand that I got as a secret Santa gift, along with a couple watercolor sketchbooks. I also have a very small traveler sketchbook, this is a lot for me, but I am trying to find which ones are my favorites. Have you tried any of these other brands? What brand sketchbooks do you like? Do you have a video with lots of different sketchbooks you’ve tried? Bought the same paint tray that you use, on purpose because blending colors on a flat surface is easier than the little cups in a lot of pallets.

I try a lot of sketchbooks and even on dry media paper I do watercolor... if it buckles it buckles and after a first layer, I let it dry and press it under some books and then continue. If the paper behaves good, I don't mind some buckling. I even iron irlt of necessary... 😂. Okay when I want to make something beautiful I take watercolor sketchbooks. But for playing... I just use any paper... ad long the watercolor is behaving like watercolor I am okay. But thank you for your review. I love videos like that. And u don't like shorts... 😂

To answer the question at the beginning, yes. That art supply is sketchbooks. I have maybe 7 I have not used, and I’m excited to watch you test these sketchbooks that will require legitimate restraint to not go buy.

Your leaf and mushroom came out cute and they make pretty stickers. I love your washi tape, but I'm not allowed to buy any more washi tape, I grounded myself from washi tape, I had a bad problem buying washi tape and not using it because it was too pretty and I didn't want to um waste it....I have over 100 rolls....I've got a problem....but washi tape addiction is better than drugs...right?....lol.

i bought it and i hate it. the pages fall out so easily and it’s too smooth. it’s pretty cute and i love the purple design but honestly it just isn’t that good
