I was working on the air at KEIN 1310 radio in Great Falls Montana in 1973, Michael was in town for a concert and the radio station sent me out to the concert and my wife and I spent the entire evening with Michael in concert, got to know him a little, terrific gentlemen, at the time he was promoting his current hit, On The Road..I thought a great tune..years later when I was on the air in Hartford, Connecticut, I was playing a number of his hits..Give Me Wings was one of them..terrific memories..God Bless You, Michael Johnson..many don’t know that Michael was part of the group, Fat City with John Denver..

Not Fat City, but rather the Mitchell Trio, later named Denver, Boise & Johnson.

Fat City was Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, who wrote Country Roads with John Denver. Later Bill and Taffy formed Starland Vocal Band.

The late 80's were when I became aware of Michael Johnson and I started following him and going to his concerts then. Of course I heard Bluer than Blue all over the radio in the 70's when I was about 9 years old, but this era was when I fell in love with him. I remember watching music videos of "Give me Wings" on CMT and going to his concerts at Orchestra Hall. He was so wonderful.

I didn't know Michael Johnson was on tour with Don Williams, that would have been a great show to catch. I'm sure the music in heaven is wonderful with them there, but I wish they were still here. Thanks for sharing this!

MJ was never in rock professionally, he called his music
'non-competitive art songs', i e., his first 3 solo albums, before he signed with EMI Capitol in '78.
