Michael Johnson NEVER CAME CLOSE to receiving the love and respect he richly deserved. A classically trained guitarist and brilliant lyricist, blessed with an incomparable voice, Michael wasn't "hot enough" , nonetheless. I will never forget the sadness I felt when I saw him for free at one of those radio station produced live appearances. There were a few acts. But I had come to see my hero, Michael Johnson, whose greatest hits cassette I had been wearing out. The sadness was from the realization that this world class artist had been reduced to.....that.😢

Fantastic! I know that "comparisons are odious," but it's amazing to me that an MJ demo "work tape" is better than anything on contemporary streaming top-10 lists. Thanks for continuing to find and share these gems, Cindy. -Tom

I have always loved this man.

My first time to hear MJ. Saw Leo live about ‘73 or ‘74 after hearing some of his albums. I have continued to listen to him since. Having albums. Supporting him now through CZcams, it’s been quite a journey. Thanks for posting this video of Leo and MJ.

I was very sad to hear that he passed away in 2017. Thank you Michael Johnson for one of the greatest songs of the 70s. 😢

This is talent. He makes it look so easy. Wonderful song that brings back fond memories of the Summer of 1978, particularly my first boyfriend at twelve years old.

If you're a guitar player or singer or songwriter or performer, you watch this in awe, knowing how easy he makes look all the things that aren't easy.

People gush over Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, etc.. and probably deservedly...but this guy should be mentioned among the greatest there ever was. He was a humble, brilliant, unassuming extraordinarily talented man. I had the honor of hanging out with him after a concert in a small bar in Owego, NY many years ago. One of the highlights of my life.

Those are some heavy lyrics. They don't write them like that any more, and maybe that's a good thing. But Michael's voice and guitar are a pleasure to hear.

MJ sat next to me in PACI. I had no idea who he was, he was just a really nice guy..little did I know I was sitting next to the guy who wrote one of my most inspiring songs. Sang this all the time! He is sorely missed.

Cindy, great addition! Several of the blues tunes reminded me of Michael's terrific version of the Count Basie song "Going to Chicago" which he performed in the spring of 1970 at Denison University. My tape is so damaged it is not playable -- do you have a copy of it in your archives? Also I just read your posting that referenced the benefit concert at Denison in April 1972 which I help organize -- the last time MJ performed with Denver and Boise. Kris O'Connor did the sound for that show; is there any chance you have a copy? 57:26 57:28 😮

Thank you for sharing any and all of Michael’s performances. We in New Zealand missed out on the majority of his career, (apart from the chart toppers). It is a thrill and a privilege for us to be able to witness his talent and impressive career now through this medium..

What a treat to get another live concert recording from MJ-thank you, Cindy! Some of these tunes are new to me (or at least MJ's version is new to me), right from the first two songs, "Nothing sweeter than sin" and "The last one singing the blues." Re: the opening "Keep it simple" recitation, I first heard that from the late Chuck Pyle. I did a search and found it on his website, listing him as the author. If you search for "chuck pyle keep it simple" it should pop right up. -Tom

🎉🎉🎉 Thank you so Much for sharing these videos with us. I Never spent enough time with my friend. We only got to share several meals together and I saw him perform many times. He was such a pleasant man to be around. I actually drove him to the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville to do a plug for the song he wrote.
