  • When EXACTLY does a believer receive the Holy Spirit? Is there something you have to do in order to receive the gift? Is there some time frame between when you get saved and when you get the gift? And, do you have to speak in tongues in order to show evidence that you have the gift of the Spirit? Also, what about some of the confusing passages in the book of Acts that seem to suggest that tongues is evidence of receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit? These and other questions will be answered in this video.

    I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit come into me when I no longer had any doubt about God or the Bible being the true word of God. I realized my faith was confirmed. I was flooded with emotion--guilt and self awareness as a sinner, in need of a Savior. I was weeping profoundly, then almost at the same time I was overcome with the most incredible feeling I've ever felt. I felt pure love and peace all around me. I felt as if my soul was rejoicing and I was free! I was made a new person. I understood what being born again really meant. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit. I was a new person. I no longer had certain habitual sinful desires. The addiction had no power over me anymore, not even temptation. I felt filled with the Spirit and I wouldn't trade it for anything, it is powerful and so awesome. Praise God!

      Praise God! Powerful testimony, Jared! Yes, it was very much the same experience with me. I was a believing but lukewarm Christian for some time. I feel the Holy Spirit was indwelling in me then but working away quietly. Yet when I completely surrendered to God and tearfully prayed for Him to take over my life and my heart, to help cleanse me of addictions and sinful behaviour, well that night I was reborn and filled with the Holy Spirit. I am now completely changed in every conceivable way. My love for God and joy in His Word has soared to the heavens, I can feel His Holy Spirit with me all the time, and all I want to do in this life is to please Him, to love Him, and to love my neighbours as Jesus commanded. His yolk is light and His commands are not burdensome. :) Hallelujah!

      Jared Bajer I experienced the very same thing I was floating on air. had to go to the Bible to understand what happened to me because nobody warned me about this. But everybody around me was telling me I needed to speak in tongues which didn’t make any sense to me. Eventually did speak in tongue‘s but was more relieved that I got them off my back about it.
      But about the video, People who got the Holy Spirit later in the books of acts was because Jesus hasn’t died yet and they believed in the Messiah and was baptized by John the Baptist only. But now we are all after Jesus death so every born again believer gets the Holy Spirit all at once because he has sent the comforter.

    When I was 13-14 I used to go to a Pentecostal church whose number one priority was for people to be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues as proof as such. The people were super nice and I still remember several of them to this day (I’m 20), but it was almost as if that if you weren’t speaking tongues there was something wrong with you and you weren’t truly filled. One Pentecost Sunday was particularly traumatizing for me as I was called to the altar with several other youth to be filled “properly”, and there was about 30-40 other members praying in tongues for us and yelling in our ears that our spirit was dead. The only thing I remember praying for that entire time was for God to either get me out of that situation, or to let me speak in tongues so they’d leave me alone. For years I was tortured up until this very day by the thought that I could never truly be filled and saved without the gift of tongues. It’s a difficult mindset to overcome and the devil is a liar, but videos like this on the Spirit and reading God’s Word are slowly helping me to acknowledge that fear and work towards defeating it by the grace of His name. Thank you ❤️

      Jada , I'm going to be honest with you, I'm 21 and I've attended a penocostal church since 4. From reading your experience, it just sounds like you should find a different penocostal church to go to. I have to admit that the penocostal denomination can be aggressive and harsh however not all are. You should not be feeling like you want to leave.
      And also some one else mentioned in the comments about learning tongues.... That's not biblical at all and is not true pentecostalism.

      Jada first off I do want to acknowledge I am a Pentecostal and have been all my life and I am 17 now. No one has ever done that to me yes people have prayed for me but they never told me"my spirit was dead". I would say find a different Pentecostal church because there are some church's that are not right at all. No one should ever teach you how to speak in tongues that is not biblical at all God is the one who teaches you and gives you the power to speak in tongues. Now on to the subject of tongues, do I believe tongues is what saves you? No, not at all really that is taking away Jesus' true way of salvation because it it not tongues that saves us but it is His spirit that is in side of us that saves us. Also I am very sorry for your experience I would love for you to come to my church because we wont force you to go up and pray. We will let you decide if you wanna go up and pray and we will pray for you but we will not force you to do anything. Thank You and God Bless.

      I had the same happen to me. All the kids on certain Sundays in our Sunday school class had to get down on their knees and pray(beg) God for the Holy Ghost (speak in tongues). The people praying with me (we each had 2-3 people praying with us) were all crying and yelling in my ear. I wasn’t interested at the time of even being a Christian. Nobody bothered to ask me if I even wanted to be saved. I was 10 yrs old. It’s a miracle of God I ever became a Christian (when I was 21.) I so dreaded those Sundays and if I knew it was coming I would feign being sick so I didn’t have to go to church.

Then I fell on my knees and felt the most amazing love, happiness and peace I've ever experienced.. I couldn't stop praying and praising my heavenly Father. Nothing has been the same since that day... I gave myself to Christ, I gave him my life. Im so grateful.. I used to be so overwhelmed by the things going on in my life and now its like even with the problems I still feel joy because I know Jesus is with me and everything will be alright.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. There were in all about twelve men.” - Acts 19:1-7 (NASB)

    Thank you for a great explanation Allen. It is such an important topic and confuses many Christians. I was baptised and immediately spoke in tongues (which I never knew about beforehand). It was the most fulfilling experience, however over the years I have seen this is not necessarily the way for everyone. My brother experienced the Holy Spirit just by surrendering himself to the Lord and has an amazing experience and had a change of heart. He is saved and I am saved both with different experiences. Praise be to Jesus Christ. We are saved by Grace by believing in him as our Lord and saviour who died for our sins.

      @dtav591 Před 2 lety

      Yes I had been struggling to understand what being ‘filled’ with the Holy Spirit really means, how was that different from being baptized in the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation. The explanation that being filled (in the present continuous sense), is related to being under the influence and control of the Holy Spirit, makes things much clearer. It has nothing really to do with the histrionics we witness in church, but more about walking in power and authority over sin and being able to manifest the gifts and fruit of the Spirit

  • @UltraX34
    @UltraX34 Před 5 lety +24

    I often find that folks who aren't legalistic about tongues and the other gifts are actually the ones who tend to express them in the most godly, loving, and real way. It's almost as if mandating that everyone speak in tongues is actually making tongues, which is a charisma or gift of GRACE, a work - which, in turn, seems to actually get in the way of the Spirit doing what he wants to do, and brings manufactured gifts rather than the real thing!

  • @nissi5422
    @nissi5422 Před 5 lety +60

    Living a godly life is a proof you have the Holy Spirit although we err many times we are able to get back on our feet cause the Holy Spirit in us guides and restores us. Speaking in tongues was never an evidence that one is save because it's a gift and it can be counterfeited by the devil.

    • @beatforjesusbykellym2104
      @beatforjesusbykellym2104 Před 5 lety +1

      It is the sign of the initial filling. The presence of HolyGhost first speaks to us, causing to repent once we are baptized of water the presence of the HolyGhost comes in. The power of the HolyGhost gives us the boldness and the gifts of the spirit as in Joel and Acts. If you read the scripture in 1 Corinthians the scriptures talk about “unknown tongues” and the “tongues of men”. If you read Acts everyone in the room were filled and those who were out side knew what languages they spoke which are tongues of men. Have you actually experienced when a person speak in tongues and an interpreter exchanged in the scripture? The purpose of the interpreter(s) are to interpret the message of that God says. People speak languages of men as well as languages of angels. They’re not interpreting the language of men but of an unknown tongue to man.
      The issue comes in when it comes to spiritual warfare when folks come against demons as those Jews tried to cast out they will be attacked because the demons will not recognize the power of HolyGhost.

    • @gabefields8012
      @gabefields8012 Před 4 lety +2

      That's right. People confuse the gifts of the Spirit with the fruit of the Spirit. Gods gifts are irrevocable so someone can be an apostate and excercise the gifts. The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) is the test of the Holy Spirit living in us. We should seek the gifts of the Spirit but they aren't necessarily evidence of salvation. We need to be led by the Spirit.

    Wow this was so helpful, that clears up a lot of confusion I was having with the gift of tongues. Went to a Bible study that was about "10 reason why you should have the gift of tongues" heavily implying an alternative to the true gospel. My skin crawled when this was the topic. I don't have a gift of tongues and you get so much pressure to perform to have certain giftings and if you don't you are not a mature Christian or people even question your faith. It's like excuse me but I am saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. Not some gifting that some say it is a requirement. We are all one body, the body is made of different parts some have this gift some don't or may never recieve it. I also do not say this to discourage anyone who desires the gift as a I also have desires for these gifts. prophecy more so. But if you don't receive it. Don't beat yourself up like I did. Jesus is the way the truth and the life.

      Same here! My husband and I got baptized together before getting married recently, we did so at an Apostolic church because I trusted them and had visited many times before. BUT when he didn’t “speak in tongues” after coming out of the water, it was almost like they felt they hadn’t done anything significant. I’ve been able to speak in my heavenly language since a small kid, but I tarried for it. Idk if I’d suggest that to anyone these days, but I do believe it’s a GIFT, not something we have to work for.

      @@joselynm5634 Are you referring to “It” as the Holy Spirit or “It” as the speaking of tongues? Either way, I would caution you not to focus so much on the SIGNS that accompanied the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that you miss the big picture the Bible gives in Acts 2. The rushing wind in the room where the disciples were praying was a sign; speaking in various tongues was a sign. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not primarily about speaking in tongues and rushing wind, it’s about the beginning of a new creation. The Bible is clear where Paul said, “If anyone is in Christ he IS a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). It happens instantly at the moment of salvation! Not, if anyone is in Christ he can become a new creation after he learns a tongue. The Bible is pretty clear that every believer has received the baptism in the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13), but not every believer speaks in tongues (1 Corinthians 12:27-31). Be Blessed. Eld. K

    We have the Holy Spirit when we are born again. The baptism of the Holy Spirit enables us to overcome sin and to move in the Spirit. I had a difficult time with speaking in tongues but received my prayer language about a year ago. Praying in tongues between God and I has been great because there are many times I don't know what to pray but the Spirit that dwells in me knows how to pray when I don't. The best thing is the devil doesn't understand these prayers and can't try to thwart them. I had someone pray in tongues and then I followed as I felt led.. some people just get it easy and some have to be willing to move in faith which was my case. I had been a believer for 18 years at the time. One thing that ALWAYS turned me off on the baptism of the Spirit was the people that acted as if they were spiritually superior. So if you don't speak in tongues please do not receive any condemnation because that doesn't come from God. I have learned much about stepping out in faith thru this. We are all being transformed from glory to glory so we MUST love people where they are at while encouraging each other to seek God more diligently.

    I was raised in a church that did not teach speaking in tongues. My grandmother took me to her church. They did believe but they just yelled out in tongues with one or two words during praise.
    I was at a church that was having a service with an evangelist from California. He arrived and we were shocked. He was dressed in jeans and a tee shirt! He was so gifted and wise we new he was for real. He explained that we did not have to get emotional or loud to speak in tongues. We just had to believe the word of God in that area. I immediately just began to speak cool and calmly. My best friend had trouble and 30 years later she still cannot speak. As soon as I started angels began to wake me up to pray in tongues for people in trouble.

    What about these Verses? Especially, Verse 4?
    Acts 2:4 KJV -
    1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
    2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
    3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
    4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, AND BEGAN TO SPEAK WITH OTHER TONGUES, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

  • @RandyA7
    @RandyA7 Před 5 lety +26

    I have to disagree with part of what you are saying. I do believe that Christians receive the Holy Spirit and it dwells in them when they get saved/receive Christ. However, there is a separate Baptism of the Holy Spirit that gives the believer power and boldness. The apostles received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in Acts Chapter 2 and that gave them the power and boldness to spread the gospel. Speaking in tongues is one sign/gift of this but believers can receive other gifts listed in the Bible. So there is salvation when the Holy Spirit comes and dwells in the believer but there is also a baptism in the Holy Spirit and you only need to ask God for it and you will receive it as a free gift.

      Randy Ashman you are right. This doctine has been corrupted by false teachers saying that it is a requirement for salvation. We know that it is not. it is a gift given freely to the believer by God in order for us to be edified. What is disingenuous is when one does not possess this gift and denies it for that reason. Doctrine is exemplified by narrative. If that were not the case we would have to throw most of the Bible away.

    • @cassieberyl3469
      @cassieberyl3469 Před 4 lety

      Rom9:18-25 talks about God having the soversign decision.Meaning that we should not question God's decision concerning our lives.The verse which says that God loved Jacob and hated Esau means that God decides what he wants because he has all the power. This does not necessarily mean he hated Esau because our God is a loving God and everything he does is out of love.
      It just means that God had different plans for Esau. If you read Genesis 33 when Jacob meets Esau you will see that Esau was also favoured by God and Genesis 36 tells us of his numerous descendants so I believe God also blessed him.
      Verse 23 is saying that everything decision God makes is for a good reason. It could be for his glory. So we shoulf not question him because he loved all of us equally
      Read Rom 8: 28 may God help you understand

    So explain this passage in Acts. The timeline for Acts is 64 A.D. and being this is the second half of Acts would put it further down the line than many of his epistles. So when this particular event occurred, it wasn’t right at the transitional period.
    “It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. There were in all about twelve men.” - Acts 19:1-6 (NASB)

    • @BCSpringz
      @BCSpringz Před 5 lety

      Sure! Those disciples were baptized under John the Baptist and not in the name of Yeshua. Since they had not truly heard the "Gospel" they did not fully know Yeshua nor did they understand that Yeshua died for those that would go on to believe in him. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is essentially baptism in the name of Yeshua where the Spirit that Yeshua carried is awakened in us as we are reborn with the Divine DNA.

    • @BK-yz7px
      @BK-yz7px Před 5 lety

      The Bible calls them “disciples,” Paul says “when you believed” not “did you believe” and John’s baptism came with the anticipation of the savior. So these weren’t ignorant people. They were believers in the same way the apostles and other disciple were believers before the death and resurrection of Christ and Old Testament saints who didn’t have a full knowledge of the gospel.

    Very good my bro
    We are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ
    He died for our sins and it is by grace through faith we receive righteousness
    We all have fallen from the grace of God but because he loved us he sent his son to TAKE our place (SIN) and give us his righteousness
    God who knew no sin made himself sin for us
    Mostly Pentecostal movement will say no one is saved unless they speak with new tongues
    And this cause many believers to drop faith in God
    Bottom line is in Matthew the word of God says
    There will be many who will be in this position on judgment day
    Matthew 7:22-24
    22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
    23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
    We are saved by grace the book of acts is a translational book it changes

    There's no record in the Bible that Jesus spoke in tongues. I don't like this idea that if you can't speak in tongues "you haven't accepted Jesus as whole". It's a ridiculous comment, the Holy Spirit gives us gifts such as joy and self control but these come over time and strengthen over time as our relationship with God deepens. Do not be discouraged if you can't speak tongues, not everyone receives this gift nor is it required for Salvation. Preach the Gospel, strengthen your relationship with The Lord and love one another as He loves us. That's all that matters brothers and sisters.
