But one thing is for sure, if the Beatles had never been, neither would have those other bands, and the world would have become a much different place. The 60's as we know them would not have happened if it were not for the Beatles. Music. Fashion. Youth Culture. Peace Movement. The Sexual revolution. Great reaction! And now a few anecdotes: This was not the original version of this song. John originally wrote it with a slow more bluesy vibe, but it wasn't considered 'poppy' enough to be their next single. So, he revamped it and this is the result. You can hear the original version on the 'White Album'.
    The Beatles always tried to remain apolitical in their music, at first. After 1966, they began to put more social commentary in the music though it was subtle. John had always wanted to be more bold so if you read these lyrics, they pretty much describe his 1960s point of view and opposition to the war in Vietnam(or war in general). Here, he has the line in reference to destruction, 'don't you know that you can count me out'. But if you check the 'White Album' version he follows the word 'out' with 'in'. When asked about that he noted that sometimes you have to be destructive in order to create change.
    Also, when this song came out on the 45 as the flip side to 'Hey Jude', many people were so dismayed by this overdriven guitar tone that they thought there was something wrong with the record and took it back. No, folks, this is only another example of the Fabs creating sounds you've never heard before. On a personal note: I once tried to imitate this tone in the mid 70s using the equipment that was available at the time. I succeeded. It sounded awesome but it caused the amp's internals to produce a very frightening red glow. I switched it off immediately and let it cool but I don't think that hardware was ever the same after that.

      ...and if you go back further to the Esher demos it even sounds a little bit gospel. It's up tempo in the demo. John said he was asked by certain groups to participate in the violent overthrow of government's. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were to be the face of the movement and support them vocally and financially. John's response was this song and The Rolling Stones' was "Street Fighting Man".

Blew the fans minds and started to gain more reputable respect in the global community. Thanks again!

    The relevance of Revolution, right now in September of 2022 is eerie. The Beatles.....rock stars, virtuosos, prophets, trail blazers. They were and still are the most important thing that happened to music in the history of the world. I am so glad that I was born in 1955 and could fully appreciate and experience them beginning when I was 9 years old.
    I am 67 and I am still thrilled and yes, emotionally moved by the Beatles.

      "Rain," the first song with backwards lyrics ever - at the end of the song. They said it was done on accident but I doubt that.

    • @captaincarl8230
      @captaincarl8230 Před 3 lety

      @@southernwanderer7912 It was an accident. John stated "After we'd done the session on that particular song - it ended at about four or five in the morning - I went home with a tape to see what else you could do with it. And I was sort of very stoned and tired, you know, not knowing what I was doing, and I just happened to put it on my own tape recorder and it came out backwards. And I liked it better. So that's how it happened."

    You think those 4 songs are that different, you need to check out early Beatles, from like 1963, you wouldn't be able to tell its the same band. They changed so much in 8 years. That's why they are the best. They didn't settle and always where looking to expand.

    There's a reason why many consider them the greatest band ever. The way they were able to produce music so many people related to and loved even as it changed and evolved drasiticly over a relatively short period of time. So many different styles of music and important messages to the world.

So much of a collaborated talent as a group off the charts on every scale of measure. Visionaries of genesis !!! Glad you discovered them.

    That’s Nicky Hopkins on the electric piano, brought in by the Beatles to add that distinctive middle part of the song. He and Billy Preston have the distinction of being the only two musicians ever to have recorded and performed with both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. It’s Billy Preston’s keyboard work that provides the “church organ” on the song “Let It Be”. From a young boy (I’m now 64 years old) I have always loved this song for that part in the song!
