- Featured is a sharp Rapid chess game (15+10) between 16-year-old Gukesh D and Magnus Carlsen from the 2022 Aimchess Meltwater Champions. The opening is a French Defense, Steinitz variation, with the game immediately sharpening after Gukesh's f5 break. Carlsen is the first to gain an advantage through the complications. However, once Gukesh applies pressure to Carlsen's 7th rank with a rook, it's Carlsen who buckles under pressure, allowing Gukesh to have the last laugh.

It’s too good getting this many uploads from Jerry. Thank you.
Full transparency, when you asked what I would do - I blundered my queen
That idea to trap to the queen in the middle of the board is a gorgeous one. Great game by Gukesh!
Jerry is the John Madden of chess and I mean that with respect to Jerry and John. The line drawing analysis simplifies strategy and tactics to welcome everyone into a better understanding of the game.
I get the fact that Madden won a superbowl as a coach and we really don’t know if Jerry has won any superbowls, but they’re both great teaching ambassadors of their respective game.
If nothing else, we can agree to disagree that Jerry is, in fact, John Madden.
Nice one. Not only have I not won any Superbowls, but I’ve also never been to a Superbowl. #DawgPound
Very pretty finish by Gukesh towards the end when he finds a winning move with queen, which was very difficult to find. Nice commentary too.
This channel has convinced me that the French defense is losing
French is quite risky, but is one of the best openings for black that has some actual winning chances like the Sicilian for example, because of many imbalances which leads to many interesting games on two results
Well Magnus had a better position until he blundered.
French is a great opening but it requires knowledge, it allows white to establish that pawn on E5 and that forbids black to develop on F6.
It’s the opening where you can make a huge blunder just by casting kingside, in many instances Greek gift can be played against you if you castle early
German gm Wolfgang uhlmann played the French his entire life. I believe it's solid but Ian only 1300😅
black was legit better out of the opening
French and Sicilian are both solid for beginners and can be played at the highest level. Good thought provoking comment and responses. Cheers.
A very nice and sudden counter from Gukesh. Thanks Jerry
I'm starting to think I know who Jerry's rooting for.... Maybe?
Haha
That queen trap threat came at just the right time. Rich game, Jerry. Well presented
I know he’s not technically as good just yet, but I really do see a champ in him. It’s the way he holds himself, reminds me of Magnus a lot actually. Very poised and very clinical in the candidates and so young. He’s gonna be the best before long and I think he’ll take pragg with him. Great Indian players coming through.
Like Pragg but I really don't see the comparison. His style is exciting but he hasn't actually accomplished anything yet...Gukesh is younger and seems to win in the big moments. Not to mention in a head to head, he is up against Pragg. I'd like to see his development in the future.
great game, love your analysis!
Great analysis; thank you for sharing.
I think the star of this game is Jerry! TY GM 👍
that was a funny line...queen in the centre but trapped..
Thanks Jerry nice game!
WoW....I mean really... WoW
Taking White's a-pawn on move 23 for Black seems a little hasty. An interesting alternative might be for Black to first play 23...g5, attacking the White knight at f4 causing the kight to retreat to d3 on move 24. From there, play could continue, as follows: 24...f4 (attacking the queen) 25. Qe1 Rb8 (defending the b-pawn) 26. Qe2 (setting up a discovered attack on Black's a6-rook. And now Black can play 26...Rxa2 with an advantage. Here is the complete sequence:
23. Nd4 g5 24. Nd3 f4 25. Qe1 Rb8 26. Qe2 Rxa2.
I guess one can be lucky in a game. It was a complex combination. That Gukesh played it so well, is commendable, as he has shown winning the Candidates tournament and has a good chance to be at least crowd World Champion! The rather semi-infamous number one Carlsen hanging over a title he refused to defend.
Crazy dynamics! It seemed dangerous to move the black queen into a tiny box, and it was in the end
This channel has such good analysis I learn so much from every game!!
Gukesh is getting very tough !
Real video by a real youtuber 😂
What a tactic. That's brutal.
Great video and great title
This channel is the final boss for today's tiktok kids
it seems most of blacks problems come from the King in the center of the board/ this IS Common in the French, but as soon as Magnus sees the game opening/ get the king out of there/ if not 0-0 then Kf8 ,at least (shallow look, i did not put the game through the cpu)
Gukesh D sounds like a computer algorithm lol
Will Gukesh ding Liren?
Will Magnus Carlsen Hikaru
6:42 Since it reminds me of a similar situation with colours reversed in the QGA I think ...0-0 but I say this out of instinct not calculation.
First. Love it. Amazing video. Thanks.
Gukesh flamed out in Poland.
I picked that knight move but I don't know why so it doesn't really count.
I can relate so much :D
I saw Nd3! What I didn't see was Qxe6 😅. Qb6 first!
The king of draws lost this time. I watched it two times
Better stick to Berlin defence i guess
White was lost after 25...Ng6 these guys are genius, but they are human
Hooooo, The horror movie ended..
I think the game was played between Arjun Arigacy and Magnus not between Gukesh and Magnus
If you don't know don't predict
@@ManiS-wd2euno I remember seeing this game between Arjun and Magnus
Classical games: Magnus Carlsen beat Dommaraju Gukesh 1 to 0, with 3 draws.
Including rapid/blitz games: Magnus Carlsen beat Dommaraju Gukesh 6 to 3, with 4 draws.
Only rapid/blitz games: Magnus Carlsen beat Dommaraju Gukesh 5 to 3, with 1 draw.
Hi Jerry 👋👋
this is a common flaw in many chess videos, but I find the title to be misleading. The outcome of the game had little to do with the french defense. Black was better at one point and it was equal in several other positions as pointed out. Then one player gets outplayed or blunders toward the end and a chess vid says the opening got busted.
I was thinking the same thing. Gukesh didn't really "break" Carlsen's French. He outplayed him at the end, but the game was equal or in favor of black till the last few moves.
He literally describes what happens *drumrollll* in the description
At the end of the day he broke through his defenses. Be less literal and smile that a young man beat Magnus
I love the title
@@rybreadus it's still clickbait. It's disappointing to see Jerry playing this game now.
😎
I guess if the game was blunt/dull you wouldn't want to make a video about it. XD
One bad move and it's over. Chess sucks lol
😂 telling that means you don't understand about life, why not find a job and stop eating with your mother plate.
@@zoulispiritus6896 ...
It imitates life in some regards and this is top level chess where they have to play very precise
Wild guess: if Gukesh wins Magnus returns
Never gonna happen.
Fake video by a fake youtuber😂
What are you yapping about
I am agree on the youtuber, but how the video is fake?
