Nothing said on what is is replacing F-22. F-35's are not replacement for the F-22's. The fact about retiring the F-22 is not accurate as the next 6gen will have to be fully produced before retiring the F-22's.

Why retire any F-22's if you're already using them for training? A lot of these a/c up for retirement can easily supplement the homeland by upgrading national guard equipment. At a time when we can see war on the horizon, now is not the time to be downsizing our military. Or playing woke games.
I believe the reason it's being retired is because it's more expensive to keep and maintain than to just roll a new babe out the hangar with updated tech

I wondered the same thing, and so I went researching that...they want to retire some of the Block20 F-22's because the avionics are completely different from the upgraded Blocks currently in use. So, the training won't quite fit with the newer Block 40's and pilots will need additional training anyway. Some of the pilots who flew both say they're almost completely different aircraft.
It's not so much about the flight envelope they need training with, it's the avionics they really need the training on so it would make sense to retire the older versions instead of spending lots of extra money on keeping older aircraft flightworthy. 👍

apparently the F22 is built like racetrack race cars. it uses things that deteriorates drastically in use. that makes it so expensive to maintain. its remains an "experiemental" products from lockheed martin for the "stealth" endeavour. despite being under service. due to it having so many detrimental cost values. something fanboys are not willing to acknowledge.

The aircraft that the Air Force and Congress want to retire are still viable vehicles. Although, they may be old, I still think they have value. If anything, make sure that the ones that are selected for retirement are put in a nice safe place. You never know when there will be a real disaster or conflict and we need anything that flies.

The F 22 just got the funds for a significant upgrade yet they seem to convey the AF is getting rid of a substantial number. That’s one of many discrepancies in this video. I agree that that they need to replace the old aircraft. As long as there is a replacement. I am referring to the A-10. The late General Colin Powell looked at that plane and said, "Now there is a beautiful plane". It was beautiful because it was built to help our guys on the ground. I am the son of a Navy carrier pilot, and he thought the A-10 was wonderful. The Air Force has wanted to retire the A-10 for decades, the Air Force was also not enthusiastic about the plane. Why? The plane could not turn and burn and go supersonic. It is being said that the F-35 can replace the A-10. Studies have already been done when they compared the 2 planes against each other. The only part that really stood out for the F-35 was that it could survive better in a high threat environment. Bombs on target, loitering, faster response times to the battlefield, the A-10 won on these points. The F-35's bomb accuracy was less than the "old" A-10. To put it bluntly, the F-35 was not made to help our guys on the ground. it was made to assist them. The F-35 was made to satisfy the politics in Washington DC. It was also made to be a plane that can "Do it all". What they will find out is that they have a plane that is mediocre in capabilities. It will never dominate the air like the F-15. In a 1 on 1 dogfight, the F-16 and the F-15 can beat the F-35. That is why the F-35 has to beat them with a long range missile shot. The F-16 and the F-15 are better at dogfighting and the A-10 can carry a lot more armaments' to help our guys win on the ground. Remember this; Dominating and winning all the air battles will NOT win the war. Only winning on the ground will victory be achieved.
