    Note: A lot of time was spent on this review, I mean a lot. But I did misspeak a few times in the video and redoing it just wasn’t feasible. I call the internal transmission gears steel when they are a metal alloy. I also say the servo horn is metal when it’s also an alloy. We’re sure you can see the differences yourself, but do apologize for any confusion.

    Axial should do a long wheelbase like a 13 inch and put a gladiator body with a deeper bed. This is when they to an rtr. Buuuut, axial should make a long gladiator body when they manufacture the different links.

    These 10.3 have severe torque twist, especially turning left or when the front end is up, I watched a video on a jeep trx4 and 10.2 jeep and the new 10.3 cj7 and the 10.2 out did the new cj7 10.3, it struggled the most out of the 3 and took linger to get through most gates.

    Great video, thank you.
    It is nice that axial finally decided to join so many toy grade and nearly all hobby grade scale manufacturers, and build portal axles. Now if we could get Jeep to put portages on the 1:1 wranglers! Would be so awesome.
    Looks like a fun truck. I wish I could afford a scale RC. Right now I just have one MOA crawler (redact) and one Traxxas slash. I find myself very envious of those who have scale trail trucks, especially several. Oh well.
    Thank you again! I love learning about these from you!

  • @SebastianLong
    @SebastianLong Před 4 lety

    A lot of what's in this new axial is what made me pick the TRX4 Bronco over the Axial when I got my first scale crawler. Two speed transmission, the floor pans and wheel wells, and a few other things. If axial made this about two years ago, I'd have probably got it over the TRX4. The only thing I don't like is that axial didn't stick to their roots with the axle without the portal boxes. That's not very scale TBH and wasn't even remotely a part of what sold me on the TRX4 Bronco. I understand why they did it, to modernize their crawler to compete with the Redcat Gen8 and the TRX4. I think maybe axial thought the other companies sold a lot was because of the portals. I don't know about others, but I don't think people are buying the Redcat or the Traxxas based solely on the portals. The SCX10 2 has a scale looking body, but that's where the scale ends. I like having floor pans and wheel wells. I like the multi speed transmission and selectable lockers. Exactly like my full scale Jeep Cherokee. For me, it was the scale odds and ends that sold me. As close to real as it gets out of the box. Portals, while a nice addition, aren't seen on many vehicles. Very rare tbh. I like the dig feature the Axial has now, but I've only ever seen that in professional rock buggies. Either way, for a RC, Axial did a great job, but for die hard scalers, it might be a bust because of the portals. The body has amazing detail though (unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the snobby driven JKs)

      I never ended up using my Cherokee body, which kinda makes me sad, as I have a 1:1 Cherokee...
      I really like the looks of this body, as well as the wheels and tires...but I agree, a Raw Kit would be a great seller... and probably be able to cut the price down quite a bit. If they do release a Raw kit, they might just sell me 2 of these...we have 4 crawlers already, and I was planning a 10.2 raw kit build...but a 10.3 raw kit would definitely be an acceptable substitute...lol

    With smaller tires and scale looking rims, and lights in the headlights it would look very scale. I mean I've never seen a Jeep with portal axles though. They must have a multi-channel controllerin the works for the RTR version that can shift gears and lock diffs. like the TRX-4. My Yeti Score chassis is almost useless after a few crashes with stuck screws bent bolts. Everything has play in it, everything needs to get upgraded blah. I've learned my lesson with Axial. If you like this just get a TRX-4 and make a custom body. That's what I did, new rims new body, new steering servo and its never let me down. Plus unless you like S&M why spend your time putting it together? I never got that even as someone who likes fixing and working on all things mechanical and electrical.. bags of kit doesn't get me psyched.

    Nice build, great video, and an awesome looking kit! You mention the BXR speed control, which I was planning for my next build.
    All of my stuff typically runs on 3s , what motor would you suggest for 3s on this kit with a BXR...probably WILL use the 2spd... I'm thinking a 45t or 55t, and with 3s wheel speed should still be fast enough with the 2spd...kinda like using one for LOW range....

    Would 3s , BXR, and a 16T 5slot motor be a good setup? Or even a 20t 5slot? Lookimg for good low speed bit still enough wheel speed when needed... so thinking on this model, the 2spd would allow for speed when needed, and low gear would be able to be set up for even slower control...
    What are your thoughts on the tires or swapping them for some Proline tires? How tall are these kit tires?

    I thought you must be mistaken when you referred to the "diffs" as hypoid when you mean helical, but you're right. Hypoid AND portals. Talk about clearance.

      What's hyoid mean straight cut gears ?

    • @paulclancy2404
      @paulclancy2404 Před 4 lety

      Hypoid

    • @mickd8188
      @mickd8188 Před 4 lety

      @@paulclancy2404 helical cut is like diagonal cut to give a longer tooth face..
      Hypoid is diagonal and curved at the same time, thus giving even longer tooth contact and quieter/smoother than traditional gear mesh..
      Obviously the more fancy the cut the more time and money to create. But stronger, smoother, quieter...etc.

      Have you seen real rock crawlers. Bigger is better. Look at my emoji.

    This location looks very familiar. Like I may have done some crawling here as well. May I ask where this is?

    Looks good and great video :-D So with this you can lock the rear wheels. What about the front and rear differentials, can they also be locked? :-) If not, do you then know if it is possible to add selectable diff lockers?

      Matthew Hanna There are some tough spots. There is an Axial SCX10III FB group that can help you with questions while you build it or may already have posts there to help you build.

      Jeepdogsbikelife 1 If you went with the basic set-up with basic gear, around $640, not including a charger.
