    Jesus judo learn some simple jiujitsu ground sweeps or reversals. A simple trap and roll or proper framing gets you out of half these pins. Dudes were just giving up. Shits a world title. Learn some fudging newaza.

      @ryanblair2514 Před 4 lety +3

      Sly Guy say that after rolling with one of these competitors.

    • @jsl8461
      @jsl8461 Před 4 lety +6

      I only watched the finals, and for the two pins I saw, the top person was isolating an arm (one from mount, one from modified side control). This arm isolation makes it virtually impossible to escape within 20 seconds. A BJJ black belt can know all the technique, the grips, the defenses, etc, but if the person holding them down is super strong and focuses all of their energy on controlling the nearside arm, the defender will not be able to escape within a short period of time. Keep in mind, the top person is controlling the arm with all the energy a BJJ person would put into a rear naked choke. The bottom person can escape, but they need to wait for the top person to get tired and ease up on the grip -- and that simply doesn't happen within 20 seconds.
      Under BJJ sport rules, you don't see this situation pop up, because there is no incentive to pin in this manner for longer than the 3+ seconds necessary to secure the pass. The top person will burn their arms and grips out doing this hold, they will get penalized after ~30 seconds, and also a the nearside arm pin doesn't progress towards a submission or a positional improvement (there are some things you can do from there but they are low percentage).
      Also, an international judo competitor is much stronger than a Mundials BJJ competitor. I've done randori with international competitors in judo (but not world champions), and have rolled with multiple-times world champions in BJJ. Look, the guys who win ADCC and Mundials are super strong, but when it comes to short bursts of strength or grip strength, they are not comparable to even the lower tiers of judo. Judo also attracts far better athletes; it pays more money than BJJ in most countries, it has a far more developed competitive scene (Judo has more than 20 countries that regularly get medals, whereas BJJ is mostly dominated by Brazilians and Americans), and it's more prestigious in most countries.

    • @jsl8461
      @jsl8461 Před 4 lety +6

      @@ryanblair2514 Hahaha, exactly. For people who have never trained with an international judo competitor, they can't imagine the sheer strength that these men and women possess. World class BJJ guys are strong too, but it's more about stamina and isometric strength.
      One time a female Japanese judo-ka came to train with us, and she rolled with one of our male competitors (who was a brown belt at the time). Initially he was going light on her, letting her trip him and pass his guard, but when she got to a pinning position with an arm isolated, he became agitated and started bridging and shrimping like crazy. Of course, eventually he got out once she tired. But afterwards he was like "what the **** was that? that was some crazy ****." He'd never been held down by a female athlete before in his life.
      That same competitor one time competed against a former elite judo-ka in the absolute. He pulled guard, the judo-ka got pant grips, and for 8 minutes did not let go. The BJJ guy couldn't break the grips at all, even though he was pulling on the elbows, kicking his legs, doing arm drags, etc. The judo guy couldn't secure a pass, but he kept threatening with Toreando passes, and picked up some advantages to win. Afterwards, the BJJ guy's shins were bruised from the judo guy's knuckles grinding against them.

      They are for different things. While this is showing the sport part of Judo, Judo can also be very practical for fighting while standing. BJJ is great for the ground, but that isn't always optimal. And I know Ju-jitsu has ways of dealing with standing opponents, but I think Judo is more specialized in that regard.
