I just want you to know how amazing i think you are!! I have been trying to figure out these trouble codes on exactly this make and model vehicle for literally months and this was it! the hoses that go onto the T that goes into the firewall was completely rotted and deteriorated as soon as i started moving it. ALSO! there is another little rubber hose that connects this vacuum line to a vacuum reservoir BEHIND the battery box that was also completely rotted. Once i fixed these lines my fuel trims went back down to almost zero and it runs sooooo much better! one week with no check engine light! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you John. I love my Expedition but been chasing vacuum leaks for a few years. Most were easy to find and take care but with the AC dash vents kept me busy for a while with no luck. I found the vacuum canister behind battery and found a dry rotted connection and really hoped that would take care of it, but no. I finally found your video and pointed out the vacuum lines thru the fire wall and go straight downstairs and there it was. 2 lines both chewed up. I got one hooked back to vacuum and can have my AC back now. Not sure what the other line is or where it goes. I may figure that one out in the winter lol. Thanks for putting me right where to look.
Our 03 5.4 Expedition is definitely showing its age. Every time I open the hood another hose has dry rotted. Replacing the entire PCV valve hose tree after finding a split by the y-fitting, but also found this exact same hose barely attached at a plastic connector behind the battery
Thanks for the video John. I have a 2003 5.4 Expedition, there are 2 lines coming through the rubber gromet on the fire wall that are broken off. I can see the same section from your video that should be attached to one of them, no sign of where the other should continue. I will remove the battery and hopefully solve the mystery. I am getting the P0174 and P0406 codes, not sure if both related to this issue. Any thoughts?
There is like a rubber grommet and in the middle is a small plastic tubing. I pushed the hose and slightly twisted side to side. I felt the hose move on the tubing, like a 1/4 inch.
Hi Edwin, I've never had to replace one yet so I'm not sure. When I do need a part and not sure of the name, I call the local dealership parts department and they have always helped.

Good Job!!!!!
@@JohnSadlersAutoRepair can this cause a lean condition leading to running rough?
@@mtsanchez27 Hi Marco's, yes it will run lean and possibly misfire.
@@JohnSadlersAutoRepair is there a diagram fot those particular vaccum lines?
@@mtsanchez27 Bing images had a large selection of vacuum and wiring diagrams.

Hola tengo una duda
Hi, my question is. How do you access the hose through the firewall
There is like a rubber grommet and in the middle is a small plastic tubing.
I pushed the hose and slightly twisted side to side. I felt the hose move on the tubing, like a 1/4 inch.
Excellent video. Any idea of the approximate mileage?
Thanks Joe! About 110,000 miles on it.
@@JohnSadlersAutoRepair Thanks, same exact issue with an 04 with about 125k.
Where did and how did you connect your smoke machine
Any vacuum hose that connects to the upper intake manifold or the power booster vacuum hose connection to the intake manifold.
Thanks a lot man your video was very helpful could you tell me the size of vaccum line you used?
Your welcome!!! Some were 5/32 , 11/32 and 1/4 inch.
@@JohnSadlersAutoRepair ok cool thanks! did you have to use any adapters?
@@deshawnalexander2066 yes, had a few. Most auto parts stores have a package with several different sizes.
What size replacement tubing did you use? Thanks!
Good morning! 5/32 and 11/32.
Question Whats the Name of the Vaccum Storage box
Hi Edwin, I've never had to replace one yet so I'm not sure. When I do need a part and not sure of the name, I call the local dealership parts department and they have always helped.
Nice
Thanks Danny!
So how did you do it and what did you use?
Hi Nedrea, used a smoke machine to find the leaks.
Then removed the battery to replace the vacuum hoses. Most auto parts stores sell the hose.
Question could the vaccum lines cause engine run rough?
Hi David , you could have a little rough idle. Most people don't notice much difference. They are very happy the check engine light is out!
@@JohnSadlersAutoRepair the check engine light dont come on. That's the thing. Going try replacing the vaccum lines and see if that helps any.
Depends on the line. The big ones can stall out the engine at idle.
I assume a 4wd?
This is a 2wd model, vin -W.
