Petition for guys in books to change what animal noise they make when they're possessive. Barking and growling is out.
Girl: I...I'm yours.
Guy: *AGGRESSIVE BIRD CALLS*
😭🤣
Growling is so it tho 😩😩😩
My brother makes bird calls it's not attractive just sayin😂😂
@@thatonebadasslighter My brother barks and meows ☠️
BROOOOO IM DEAD
I feel an instant save for the "You're mine" talk is follow it up with a "I am yours." "You're mine, and I am yours". Now that's actually wholesome.
could we appreciate her EDITING STYLE? it‘s literally so cool
I think it's the reason why I watched her video 100 times each. It's just so funny to see
Fr tho, like I'm literally jealous of her editing style 😭
Fr
LITERALLY THO
The worst part is the fact there is probably sitting a 25+ yo woman behind a screen writing these things with a straight face thinking “yup that’s it, FANTASTIC”
and then the story takes place with two freshmen 😭
“baby girl” and Gen Z words (even the mentioning of modern apps) in books are probably my biggest icks
honestly I get the ick with a lot of modern stuff. Like if they would go to Starbucks and text on Tinder I'd probably die. So my most read genre is (modern) classics
@@july3817 exactly, though my favorite genre is romantasy 😂
I read mainly fantasy and sometimes I actually gasp when a dating app was mentioned in the romance novel I was reading as if it’s not normal 😭
@@darrowofyomama SAMEE! Like, in The Love Hypothesis, Candy Crush is mentioned and I was like wowwww, until I remembered that oh wait, this is a rom-com type of book, that’s why you’re reading about fucking Candy Crush 🤣
@@bookloverrrr i only like mentions of hip modern things if its relevant to the story, for comedic effect, somehow part of the characters traits (and acknowledges thats its weird) or very subtle
I hate when a character is extremely possessive and gets so jealous and angry when their love interest is around another person and manipulate them to only be around them and it’s just accepted. If someone tired that with me I’d be running. Toxic relationships shouldn’t be romanticized 😭
Fr like bro ure not Edward Cullen please leave 😔
the love interest from an EXTREMELY popular booktok book is like this, and in a chapter where we're in his POV, he got hard because he saw the mc with her hair down..

Madita:I hate reading
The books behind her:👁️👄👁️
I only like the "you are mine" when it goes like "I am yours and you are mine". The meaning is so different to me
Exactly, that gives me butterflies 🦋 ❤ but the other one ummm stay away from me ☝️
Currently reading a book where the MC’s “husband” acts like a child and is never really there for her or their children… 🤢🤢🤢
NOOO EEWWWW
BURN THE BOOK!
The only way they can save it is if it ends with him getting beaten up by biggie cheese
Realistic, lol [I say this as a dude. Some guys do act like that].
Does she dump him? That would be great.
i mean if you hate characters like that, everyone in the epithet erased fandom wants molly's dad dead.
Martin Blyndeff worst epithet erased character...
I love how like passionate she is about this stuff it makes me so happy lolll 😂
I get sooo invested
@@maditalesDon't even worry me too. I don't think it's healthy anymore but I choose to ignore that 👍
I also hate when the FL cheats and people justify it because she has a bad boyfriend/husband, especially when there's absolutely nothing stopping her from dumping him. Most of the time, her boyfriend/husband can't even do anything to her because the ML is strong enough to protect her. And I find it weird that she has little to no trauma from the abuse and once she leaves her partner for the ML, she's completely normal.
Fr. There is mostly nothing that stops her from leaving him. In the worst cases the bf isn't even a horrible person but just framed as "oh so boring" compared to the ML (*caugh* After *caugh* Tessa's bf's crime was literally just wearing slippers). But the FL would rather cheat than leaving him bc she knows she can count on her bf to be there, while our bad boy ML will probably dump her cause "he's not good for her" 🤡
I also hate it when the FL cheats on the ML and he just takes her back, there is no remorse, no “I’m Sorry” just its ok that you kissed another guy, Ill still date you. 🤮
It's honestly scary how many toxic/abusive things are normalized in romance (and sometimes other genres). Especially when we consider that a lot of this happens in YA so teens might grow up thinking this is normal or even desirable.
I just read The Love Hypothesis, and OMFG I don’t even know how many times the fact that _he’s so big_ is mentioned and it disgusts me. Also... “you’re so big...” and “you can handle it.” 🤦🏻♀️
ONGGGG like we know it's like one of his only character traits

I've yet to watch the entire video, so I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not, but when he's a mafia boss and he kills some innocent man in front of her for the first time, and she runs off. Then he goes to "comfort" her and she INSTANTLY gets over that fact that he MURDERED someone and they start MAKING OUT while there's probably blood staining his living room carpet.

the only thing I can think of is "I wanna feel you milking me baby" from the Spanish love deception
it was soooo bad.
EWWWW
please don’t remind me
I think my mind blocked that out bc I dont remember that being said (thank God!)
6:22 I LITERALLY CAN’T ANYMORE I cannot breathe. Madita stop making me break into insane laughter, my family is concerned. 😭😭
I actually love when he says “you’re mine” 😂😂 but I HATE when she’s says “I’m yours” back to him 🫠💀
I swear, if I find out that a book says, even if just once, that the girl is _so small_ and the boy is *SO BIG* I will indeed stop reading even if I’m like halfway through the book. It disgusts me. 🥴
Literally so much infantilizing grownass women! So weird!
@samdor935 😐 it's a size difference thing. For the most part it's not about infantalizing a woman. Obviously some people are legitimate freaks but its for the most part its not coming from anything illegal. It's just size difference hits. Idk I guess the most base form of it is liking taller people
So I'm reading fourth wing right now and I love it but that is something that bothers me is how many times he has to mention how small she is 😤

"YOU HAVE MATH HOMEWORK"
My favorite quote I've ever heard
i’m so feeling the big chapters one right now because i’m reading the secret history and in this entire 560 PAGE BOOK there are EIGHT CHAPTERS. EIGHT.
I wish you good luck and wishes to complete that book
Im currently reading a Book with 100 pages long chapters, it’s such a pain
I- I am so sorry 😟
My bookish and even more specifically romantic ick is when the guy is only sweet to her and mean to everyone else. Such a turn off. Because i pick and appreciate men who appreciate and treat my friends and family with affection and respect. I would never go for someone who is only sweet to me because that man is a big ol red flag not just to the world initially but will turn out to be extremely toxic to me and will think am his property later on.
YES ON THE CHEATING TROPE. I’ve been writing a book for a while now (probably won’t ever publish, it’s mostly for me), and as I wrote, my male love interest just kinda naturally gravitated to another character. They had better chemistry than my MMC and FMC, so rather than write a cheating trope, I just had them break up amiably, and currently my MMC is dating the other character and my FMC is living her best single life
she’s such a CHARACTER
Thank uuu
I just LOVE her editing style!!

@@maditalesNo problem!! (Btw I was the first comment lol(

AHHH THANK U SO MUCH
the weird curses reminds me of AGGGTM but i love how pip swears and be like holly peperonni
this video had me cackling especially at 6:25 😭 so many book icks but the growling/roaring takes the trophy for me. like it's giving animal, like actual wolf. gonna sub because you're just so funny and I love the vibe
For me the dominance shit is what makes me gag. The only case where I’ll ever read a book that un ironically uses “you’re mine”, is if I’m hate-reading for a quick laugh.
I only like stuff like that in epithet erased... of course, it's used differently.
Examples:
" “C’mon kid, let go of the damn thing!” barked the wolf, flailing her around like a dog with a chew toy. " [Context: Wolf (Dont think she has a real name.) is trying to steal a bag from Feenie, who isnt letting go of the bag. Me when She looked like a little lost lamb, politely inviting any nearby predators to eat her. It wasn’t long before she ran into a wolf.]
" “It’s the worst!!!” she bleated. " [not sure if this one counts, but considering Feenie, the girl saying this, is often related to sheep... Makes sense. Context: talking about that one eraser thing where it smudges but then you accidentally tear the paper]
" Trixie hissed at him like an alley cat. " [Also not sure about this one, but she's being related to a cat so I think that counts. Context: Rick was trying to be friends with Trixie.]
and " “Fix him!” the younger sister barked. " [Context: Rick uh... you know we dont talk about the ending of chapter 7.]
There's probably more, but these are a couple examples.
Epithet erased is so silly i love it,,,,
Look at this writing, it's amazing:
---
That was Molly’s problem. She took way too much guff! If Molly were a doll she’d be fluff-’n’-stuffed with guff. Trixie had never been in a fight, but she NEVER took any guff. She was a verified no-guff-taker. 100% allergic to guff. Yes-siree-bob.
---
All the other books I've read have such serious writing that it makes it boring.
The part about milking had me laughing and feeling disgusted at the same time lol
Making men as monster noses, using technical words for body parts, weird pet names, creepy behaviour, teacher/student/parent/schoolgirl. animalistic noises, normalising dark behaviour that should never happen to a person, overdescription of appearances,
i have started "Better Than The Movies" a few days ago AND THE LONG CHAPTERS ARE SO TRUE. Still love the book tho!

The way you edit your videos is literally amazing, you’re my favorite Booktuber ever❤️
Madita's editing is awesome!!!!! You can literally tell how hard she works.
Hi Maddy! Your "bad boy" acting was on point!😂😂😂 Loved it. This entire video just had me laughing and giggling.
I feel like this is the LEGIT definition of "The Love Hypothesis". 😭
i love your personality madita, one of the reasons i started getting into reading again! thank you for your amazing content
as a fantasy writer, the terms: snarling, barking, growling etc are a frequent part of the expectation so its not fun having it in my vocab
You acting out the weird actions was what made this video 10x better 🤣
I wanna thank you so much for making this video as it is really cheering me up and distracting me from the incredibly painful period cramps I am expiriencing right now 🙏
I've found some of these tropes can work very well if the author explores or challenges them (for exemple I was reading a fantasy series where the main character has a lot of wolf characteristics from being magically bonded to one and the author instead of just saying "he growled" really explored the balance of his animalistic and human side through his body language and habits, which imcluded sometimes growling).
Another thing that could work is the narrative challenging the aggressive/possessive behaviour of the character instead of romanticising it.
Etc
Lately it’s during a Smutt scene “than he comes undone” no, I come “undone” reading this. 😂 at first I heard this in a book review and than I read the wicked kingdom and I came undone 😂
Pretty sure that’s a “romantic” way to reference the end of a spicy scene, but I’m on the fence with how I feel about it-because on one hand-it can work, but on the other? All I can think of is the author trying to sound ‘deep’ because the love these characters have for each other is *magical* and (in that context) all I can do is sink into the couch and die. Lol!
I looveee your editing style and videos!! Never fails to make me laugh ❤
Aww thank you so much really!!
I agree! 💕
Whenever someone writes that a character growls, I hear that Call of Duty zombie noise. That's my toxic trait. No one told me to think like this. Yet, I do. And that's why I struggle to get through a romance book, even though I want to so badly.
this makes me soooo happy

Lmaoooo
For the growling thing, I also think this cringy when its in sexual contexts or as just a sound they do randomly, but when its used right it just describes the way their voices sound and it can be extremely effective and (dare i say) cool? Hear me out, in bbc radios version of hamlet there are two great examples of roaring and growling in Act 1 Scene 4 and in Act 1 Scene 5.
In 1,4 after the ghost has entered and beckoned hamlet to follow it, his friends do not want him to follow and physically restrains hamlet. he's desperate to follow his fathers ghost, so he when he says the line "unhand me gentlemen" (literally so polite haha) he roars it. There is literally no other way to describe how the bbc radio voice actor said it other than a roar. its loud, has a rough quality to it, and demanding. it's not necessaaaaarily angry, maybe a little bit because he is being restrained, but its mostly desperation to hear what the ghost has to say.
In 1,5, the ghost has just said "The serpent that did sting thy father's life // Now wears his crown." where basically hamlet realizes that his father was murdered by his uncle, so he says "O, my prophetic soul! My uncle?" (where "My uncle? is growled) its different from the roar because its not as loud, and a lot more angry.
The thing with these is that in the right contexts its really effective when used to describe how they are saying something. if hamlet simply demaned his friend to "unhand me gentlemen" it wouldn't have had that roughness to it, because demands don't have to have that. same with the "my uncle?" part, if he had just shouted that it wouldnt have been rough and angry. and so i think it can be a pretty cool way to describe a voices quality. In hamlet, it doesn't explicitly say that they are saying things in particular ways (unless its sung), that's up to the voice actors and actors on stage, but when they do say things in growly or roaring ways, there really is no other way to describe it haha.
so yeah, no random growling for me. absolutely not. but in an angry context? (nothing sexual. growling does not belong in an intimate setting like that for me.) go right ahead. it just fits sometimes haha
Edit: i forgot to mention barking, but the only context i think that fits in is if it's some general or leader who is kinda full of themselves are barking out orders. It's like a loud, sudden demand for something, that is what barking is in humans. barks in dogs it also loud and sudden so i suppose thats where the comparison is drawn. other than that... no. (I don't have any hamlet examples of barking i don't think, none at the top of my head at least, since i already used examples from hamlet in this comment hahah.)
