he is the reason i made it to this show, up until the night before i had completely given up because tickets were sold out and nobody was getting back to me from craigslist. but he emailed me and said he will put my name on a list for some special tickets at the door. this isn't the reason he's my favorite drummer of all, it's because of his vibe and his style of drumming
THIS RULED. I smoked a joint in the parking garage and got there right on time. I got in the roped off area and stood about 20 feet from the stage. Awesome surroundings. So/So audio in the crowd. Vocals didn't mix well in that huge room. Epic though to turn over your shoulder and be dwarfed by the temple. An experience that has enriched my life.
In regards to Emil vs Chris, I think there is something to be said that Emil is technically powerful, and has such a drive, while Chris is more of a feel driven, organic that goes with the music, as opposed to Emil which almost seems to be the structure in which Al plays. Which is odd, I have only really noticed this with one of my favorite bands called Chum, in which their first drummer wasn't at all perfect, and that actually made the band what it was. Then later, that drummer left them, and they got a drummer that played with a click track and they got meticulous, and seemed to lose something there. Almost like they lose their imperfection that was their own dynamic, like a living breathing beast of a song, while having the structure makes it take off in another way. I don't do that top ten better or worse thing, it is a waste of effort. I love this band regardless. I love this recording, and am truly thankful you captured and shared it. Thank you.
My mind was just blown when I realized the exhibition hall they were playing this in. What a bizarre thing to happen, and I'd love to take in Om in the Temple of Dendur room. Holy shit!
Im sure being there would've balanced out the drums to bass but all i can hear on this video is the drums. I saw them live with Emile and he was great, Al and Emile work well together but I think we can all agree on the fact that OM wouldn't be OM without Al Cisernos. HE is OM. Just watch his performance. He treats his music, his creation like a meditation. Watching him live last week in LA made me fall even more in love with him and OM. Seeing them here among ancient Egyptian artifacts would've been an insanely awesome spiritual experience Im sure!
i didnt, he did. we're friends on facebook. and HE messaged ME asking if i ever got a ticket, and he wants me to get to the show. i know i am very lucky
I love Emil so much. I really do. I also love his side projects, I think he is a brilliant musician and producer, but that, that performance just doesn't feel right...
I can clearly hear what you mean about the acoustics, but I'm not talkin' about acoustics here. I don't know man, this song is "get high'n'relax" song for me, he lifted all the dynamics up.
this show wasn't free, but I see what you're saying, either way the setting was amazing, you get past the sound quality, especially this close to the stage
i have to admit i wasn't seeing the hate towards emil justified, but he is for sure to busy and ruining this songs natural groove. just one mans opinion i never saw hakius botch this.
hell on stage I've been in dozens of places like that and the sound wasn't all top end. Isn't that what the mixing desk is for? So the sound can be tuned to the various acoustics of the venue and PA otherwise no one would bother mixing.
Emil - Drummer.
Chris - Shaman.

He did the same for me. One of the greats, and a good friend to boot.

actually, the bass was a blurry mess in the mix until about 80% of the way through the show.
it sounded exactly like this video. i was so bummed
theyre back in LA this week! Feb 28th at the Regent!
Thanks for uploading this man! You rock.
GREAT video work by the way! thanks for posting!
love at giza
In every clip I've ever seen of Emil with Om he's been chewing gum.
Wish I could have been there--too epic!
YAY!
interesting version . I love this song
I saw them at Roadburn, but I am still fucking jealous of this. Because the setting is awfully awesome.
yeah it was cool, ya know, being there while you're watching this on youtube.
that crash cymbal never stood a chance, lol
this drummer is dope
i didnt, he did. we're friends on facebook. and HE messaged ME asking if i ever got a ticket, and he wants me to get to the show. i know i am very lucky
Not sure if Emil ever listened the song...
yeah I'm pretty sure he joined one of the most important bands with this sound and decided he's not going to listen to their previous material
I love Emil so much. I really do. I also love his side projects, I think he is a brilliant musician and producer, but that, that performance just doesn't feel right...
hell on stage Like, he freestyled the whole song, and, you know, this is stoner.
MrUkris it's just his style of drumming, the acoustics SUCKED in this hall, his playing didn't help
I can clearly hear what you mean about the acoustics, but I'm not talkin' about acoustics here. I don't know man, this song is "get high'n'relax" song for me, he lifted all the dynamics up.
this is in the sackler wing isnt it?
wow the drummer contacted you and let you in the show? what a guy, how did you reach him?
é nessas horas que voce sente falta do Chris Haikus!
this show wasn't free, but I see what you're saying, either way the setting was amazing, you get past the sound quality, especially this close to the stage
Hes no Chris Haikus.
i love Chris, but I prefer Emile. to each their own
i have to admit i wasn't seeing the hate towards emil justified, but he is for sure to busy and ruining this songs natural groove. just one mans opinion i never saw hakius botch this.
Lots of comments about the drummer, personally I preferred what Chris Haikus, but that's not to say this still isn't totally epic.
Emil butchers the hell out of this song and it really hurts 😞
Who the hell is mixing this? They need to take their earplugs out.
nobody, it's not a matter of mixing, it's a huge hall with 50' high ceilings, the acoustics suck. nothing to do with mixing
hell on stage I've been in dozens of places like that and the sound wasn't all top end. Isn't that what the mixing desk is for? So the sound can be tuned to the various acoustics of the venue and PA otherwise no one would bother mixing.
