This book was beautifully heartbreaking. Incredibly painful, yet so wonderfully written. This book really drew me in, the concept entranced me and the unique approach that was taken to the idea of live and death was fantastic. It made me reflect a lot on my own life and rethink how I'm spending the very little time I'm given on earth. This is my favorite book to date.

Death-cast only notifies people of their end day, they wouldn't call if one of them had the slightest chance. Adam made it clear in his book that no deckers survived after 24 hours.
the dark lord I saw it as: Everyone was destined to die on some day, and they knew it when Death Cast called them, but Death Cast didn't know HOW they were going to die, because I guess ""Life"" kept trying to kill them (like when, for instance, Peck had the gun or the explosion at the bookstore). Hey Adam, I just finished your book like... Yesterday and I've been browsing on you and what you're doing. If you ever do another book in the TBDATE universe, I would love to see the book Deidre Clayton wrote about the life-cast idea and the two sisters.
I just finished reading this book right now thank you so much for publishing this it’s something I never knew I needed. I usually don’t get so emotional over a book but that had me feeling so many emotions
for they both die at the end fans: hbo is coming up with they both die at the end series in june. it's all adapted from the book but still am really excited!!! 💗😭
I met you at Fandom Frenzy in Chicago two years in a row and my Dad's face lights up when I mention you cause he thought you were super cool lol. Also we call you coffee guy because when I met you you wouldnt stop bouncing all over the place and being super giddy so my dad said that you drank too much coffee xD. I JUST PREORDERED TBDATE!!!! I'm going back to the US in november so I'll have to wait til then but I'm so excited to read it!!
Adam Silvera haha my dad couldn't believe it xD he says hi too. I am currently reading History because I got it when it came out and I knew it was gonna wreck me so I put it off =)
Pleaseeeee make a sequel 😭 I just finished yesterday and it's hands down one of the best books I've ever read. I genuinely laughed out loud at Rufus and Mateo's jokes and cried when nearing the ending (and now every time I think of the outcome). You really get an incredible insight into each character's thoughts and behaviours on a personal level. And the interconnectedness between chapters, such as finding out how minor characters are figures who actually have some kind of association with the main characters is perfection. But I think what gets to me the most is Mateo's final thoughts before his horrific death and the irony of him not wanting to leave his home thinking it was the safest place. And all the added grief dumped onto Rufus after Mateo's death was hard to read, especially when he passed too. It's gonna take me some time to recover but I'd love to read about the two finding each other in the afterlife or some sort of development! I've read fanfiction of this nature to help deal with the devastation, but making it canon will be amazing 🥺
As call as that would be, I feel like the ending of this book would be ruined if there was more. It shows their relationship build up and then the grief that Rufus is put through, and then for us to never find out what happens to him, if we get a sequel it would ruin the mystery.
I just finished this book and feel so empty. It really made me think about life and how precious love and life both are. I feel so emotionally connected with the characters and I only read the book in 24 hours. 🥺
I finished this book yesterday and I genuinely didn’t think it’d make me so sad, you’re an incredible author, and I plan to read more books written by you!
Hi!!!! Adam Silvera. I don't know if u gonna read this or not but I want to tell u are just amazing. U are my favourite. Till now I have read your WHAT IF IT'S US and I'm reading THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END. I'm 15 and I really connect with your books. A lot actually. I like you and your writing style so much. Keep writing👍👍👍👍💓💕💕❤
i just read this a couple days ago and... i could NOT stop crying like its four days later and i am still crying. Amazing book i love it so much its my fav
They Both Die At the End killed me mentally, and it was absolutely amazing. Now I've started the prequel, and I am so excited to see how it plays out. Thank you so much for writing these masterpieces.
did you read/like aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe by benjamin saenz? if so, would you say your "happy ending" novel would be similar to stories like that?
I love that book! I think my second novel HISTORY IS ALL YOU LEFT ME feels more in line with the ARISTOTLE AND DANTE ending. THEY BOTH DIE has a very different, but hopefully still beautiful and understandable ending.
@@AdamSilvera well considering I still don't understand how much pain that ending has put me through I think calling it understanding is a stretch but beautiful? YES YES YES.
Can we have a version of this in an alternate reality with Life-cast (It tells you where you will be resurrected - mentioned in the book) where Mateo and Rufus find each other in a future life??
So, I am late to the party and just finished this book about 20 minuets ago and my head is just buzzing with thoughts. Mateo is easily my favourite character and it is true that everyone should aspire to be like him. I am 17 myself so this really hit me when thinking that the age they died was so young and they deserve to have a longer life. The thought that I could die any day terrifies me and this book is making me realise that if I do die today, I wouldn't be overly happy with how I lived my life, like how Mateo was at the start of the book, having his room be a safe place, I really understand that feeling. I really hope I am able to be more like him in my life as he became such a brave person as Rufus helped to push him out of his comfort zone. I had cried so much when it was confirmed he was dead, even though it was told from the very start he would die. I really enjoyed reading this book and like to think that Mateo and Rufus found each other in the afterlife like Mateo said and are holding each other. I think you are a brilliant writer and I hope one day you do write a book with a happy ending as I need some more fluff in my life after reading that. Just trying to imagine that the book finished when they fell asleep in Mateo's bed.
They Both Die at the End is one of my favorite books of all time. Thank you so much for bringing it to life, representing my community, and taking me on such an emotional journey.
I Just finished your book IN TWO DAYS!! I couldn't put it down too much because it was just great. And I love the fact that Mateo is Puerto Rican since I am one myself and I have never read on any book about characters that are from Puerto Rico, specially main characters, so that got me hyped from the start. I loved everything about it and that's a lot to say coming from a girl that hates to read stuff with tragic endings. But your book just catched my eyes from the instant I saw it and I couldn't let it down. The only curiosity I have is to how Death-Cast know people are going to die, and how did they know they had the right Mateo Torrez? His dad has the same name, plus there are a lot of people out there with the same name. Will you ever answer this questions? 😅 I also loved the whole afterlife thing. It made me hopeful to read a sequel about this but something tells me that, if you do write a sequel, it won't be with their reincarnations 😭💔. Anyways, awesome story! Loved every bit of it 💚.
this book was honestly so good. it was the only book that made me shed a tear. i was kind of skeptical at first because of the title but i love it so so so much. make this a movie !!!
Hi Adam, I have something to tell you, I am reading now 'history is all you left me' but in polish cause I'm your fan from Poland (in polish the title is 'zostawiłeś mi tylko przeszłość' :p) and omfg I'm so in love with your books, and you know, this is amazing that I can now tell it to you, even on CZcams and I know that you are probably not going to read my message, but I just want you to know that by your books you can change people's way of thinking. It's so amazing. You're so amazing. We love you in Poland, lots of love and luck in writing! xx
This is the closest I’ve gotten to crying over a book in a long time. I’m glad that he followed through and actually did end up having them die but GOD IT WAS SO SAD I love all the little small connections and details you’ve don’t notice the first time. Like how Victor was probably the person who ran Rufus over because he was in a rush to save Delilah, or how the reason that the stove caused a Mateo’s death was because Mateo had told his neighbor not to fix it earlier that day, or how Zoe, who is only mentioned in passing to presumably never be brought up again has her story shown in a way that makes her feel like a fully fleshed-out character despite only having a few pages dedicated to her. All the different perspectives, callbacks, and references just make for a perfect story Long story short it’s been 10 minutes since I finished the book and I’m utterly destroyed. Tbh the thing that gets me is that I’ve heard a few spoilers for this book a few years ago so I already knew that Mateo would die to a fire before Rufus to a car but that did not prepare me at all
The thought that these two characters were like two halves of one whole is a thought that ran through my head the entire time i was reading the book so when u said u thought similarly i was really excited
I've read the book in French, but the book was SO GOOD I COULD NOT THINK ABOUT ANYTHING FOR DAYS AND WHEN I FINISHED IT I WAS SOO empty.. But like the moment when Peck's friend couldn't beat Mateo because he once gave him his shoes just makes me feel a lot of emotions at one. But what happened to Delilah ?!!? I thought that: since mateo and his father have the same name, maybe his father was dying because like, hello? He is in a hospital? This is one of my favorite books and belive me, i've read A LOT Thank you for killing me, i didnt need my heart anyway. Its just amazing, i LOVE it #Pluton4Ever
Adam ! I'm in love with your books and it makes me so sad that you're not more popular. I really hope your books will get more attention because i've enjoyed all of them! I especially love More Happy Than Not, All the characters have just grown into my heart and my favourite ones are Me-Crazy and Brendon. But I love all the other ones too, Thomas, Genevieve, Aaron, Eric, etc. I love it how likeable you made Genevieve, because i've read a lot of books were the author writes the girls rather obnoxious and unlikable so i was very please with it. Thanks you for those amazing books! They'll go through a lot of rereading on my side haha.
I feel like you should write a book about Mateo and Rufus in the afterlife and their life before they got the call. And maybe telling us what happened to Mateo's dad.
The US cover is so much more pretty than the UK one! I'm a little sad I live in Scotland! The shadows of Rufus and Mateo becoming the grim reaper and the beautiful colours! I can't even!!!!!!!
Just finished it and thank you so much it truly changed my life. I cried so much because you made the characters feel like they were part of your family and that's just amazing, It was a beautiful book.

Hi i'm from the Philippines. I got a copy of this it after I read Becky's book(simon versus....). Good thing I googled books and found that you and becky collaborated on a new story. And that's how I found out about your works. Actually I realised, I saw this before I got beckys book, i just wasn't sure what it was about. So I got my own copy. I enjoyed it actually. I finished it in 2 1/2 days, believe me that is fast for me coz im not really bookish. Though I would have to agree with one of the feedback about that if there was info about Deatchcast at the beggining, it would have been easier. I still loved it. Was able to relate to how one can change your life/ make you live... even for a day. What Rufus did for Mateo in the end really hit me hard. It was so heartrending. I will read it again. Then afterwards I'll get a copy of your 2nd book, History is what.... can't hardly wait . Thank you
Adam, my not-so-secret author crush, I can't believe you're spoiling us with another new book this year; I feel so blessed :) Frustratingly, I probably won't be able to buy it before September 9 [cries], so that's some suffering I need to endure. Nonetheless, I can't wait to meet Mateo and Rufus! (and most likely get my heart ripped out of my chest in the process of doing so) :'D PS: You're awesome.
I've read two of your novels already; More Happy than Not and They both Die at the End, and I am currently reading "History is all you left me" Gosh.. All of your books just really killed my soul... But I love it!
I have a few questions about they both die at the end (I absolutely loved it btw): 1) what would happen if someone didn’t have a phone. Would they still get the knowledge that they were going to die? 2) in the book it seemed like a lot of the deaths were caused by that fact that they knew that they were going to die. Was it just that death was inevitable or was the knowledge that they were going to die connected to their deaths? 3) if someone was going to commit suicide and then they changed their mind at the last second would they have not gotten the call? What if at the last second they changed their mind again and ended up committing suicide? Would they have gotten the call then? 4) if someone got the call and then committed suicide right after because of the call would that have been what the call was referring to when they got the call or would they have died anyway before the end of the day a different way if they didn’t commit suicide? 5) if u didn’t get the call and then BECAUSE you didn’t get the call, to prove it wrong or something, you committed suicide, what would happen?
If you ever revisited your idea of " The Brother dies at the end" and write that novel. I would love to see the small difference it has with "They Both Die at The End'

I just finished the book. It was so sad. I was crying my eyes out, and it would’ve been worse if it was like 2 am. 😭
FIRST!!! I NEED ALL THE EDITIONS!!
I'll hold a UK copy for you!
Yesterday around 3 I finished the book , i can't help myself to get off from the table and go to the bed . I was literally crying so hard and silently at the same time . Best book i ever read ;)
Just finished the book and thanks for the feels train. I cried a river
for they both die at the end fans: hbo is coming up with they both die at the end series in june. it's all adapted from the book but still am really excited!!!
I'm going back to the US in november so I'll have to wait til then but I'm so excited to read it!!
hahaha I literally don't even drink coffee, but I will wear that title with pride! Hello to your dad for me, and thanks for pre-ordering!
This is the first book that made me cry, thank you, Adam. I hope you notice me. You're such a brilliant writer.
Both editions are beautiful! I seriously can't wait to read it. I have a feeling I'm going to like it(love it) a lot.
Thanks, Tabby!
i just read this a couple days ago and... i could NOT stop crying like its four days later and i am still crying. Amazing book i love it so much its my fav
Ok, I know I’m super late, but oh my god I loved this book so much. Literally my favorite book I’ve ever read.
so you broke me. this book broke me. i bawled my eyes out. how could you
Mateo was such a kind soul that I didn't expect him to have such a brutal death.
WE NEED AN AFTERLIFE AU SEQUEL ASAP ADAM SILVERA DON'T LEAVE US RAVAGED
Sir give me back the tears I WANT MY TEARS BACK SIR THIS BOOK-
They Both Die at the End is one of my favorite books of all time. Thank you so much for bringing it to life, representing my community, and taking me on such an emotional journey.
Congratulations on the new book Adam!! Already pre-ordered just counting down the days!!
Thanks so much, Danae! Means a lot :)
Haha still can’t get over the ending... LITERALLY. I cannot get over it. ITS BEEN MONTHS!
I literally just finished reading it and im broken now. I loved your book it was ABSOLUTELY amazing . I cried so much at the end.
I also loved the whole afterlife thing. It made me hopeful to read a sequel about this but something tells me that, if you do write a sequel, it won't be with their reincarnations 😭💔.
Anyways, awesome story! Loved every bit of it 💚.
Jwls omggg sammee!!!!
this book was honestly so good. it was the only book that made me shed a tear. i was kind of skeptical at first because of the title but i love it so so so much. make this a movie !!!
i just finished this book and im sobbing thank you for writing such a beautiful book
Please make a sequel. They deserved a happy ending
I’m glad that he followed through and actually did end up having them die but GOD IT WAS SO SAD
I love all the little small connections and details you’ve don’t notice the first time.
All the different perspectives, callbacks, and references just make for a perfect story
Long story short it’s been 10 minutes since I finished the book and I’m utterly destroyed.
This is one of my favorite books and belive me, i've read A LOT
Thank you for killing me, i didnt need my heart anyway.
Its just amazing, i LOVE it
#Pluton4Ever
Thank you Adam for this book. Can't help to cry. It made me realize a lot of things.
oh so YOU are the one who is responsible for my tears. dude i loved this book. but i cried too much when they died.
I feel like you should write a book about Mateo and Rufus in the afterlife and their life before they got the call. And maybe telling us what happened to Mateo's dad.
Prepared to die from the feels for the third time (considering it's your 3rd book) I'm gonna go cry thinking about your other 2 books.
Thanks for always coming back for more! :)
The US cover is so much more pretty than the UK one! I'm a little sad I live in Scotland! The shadows of Rufus and Mateo becoming the grim reaper and the beautiful colours! I can't even!!!!!!!
I KNOW RIGHT. i was thinking about ordering the one from the us and even pay the big shipping for the prettier cover
I've put it on my tbr for my readathon this week and I cannot wait! All this extra info has me so excited
yay! enjoy!
Y'ALL THE BOOK IS GETTING TURNED TO A SERIES OMG OMG OMG OMG
Just finished it and thank you so much it truly changed my life. I cried so much because you made the characters feel like they were part of your family and that's just amazing, It was a beautiful book.
Just finished reading . My heart is heavy thanks Adam
I really need the book that Deidre (?) Was writing!! About the twins
My sister introduced me to this book and later on I got it at the library, coincidentally on September 5 and I finished it on the same day and I cried until about 2 in the morning because of the end. This book is now one of my favorite books and I had to buy the day after I read it. Thank you so much Adam Silvera for writing this book. It is truly an amazing and fantastic book
The both talking place in the same universe question was one that I had in my mind when I read They Both Die At The End And More Happy Then Not.
More Happy Then Not was the first book that I read from you and I cried sooooo much, thank you.
This book broke my heart😭
My dad first showed me the book the week it came out joking about how he was wondering what would happen at the end, and then a week later I got it and realized it’s now one of my favorite books ever
I love how it's one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking stories and he just sits there talking about the gorgeous covers.
i’m currently reading this book in the uk and i’m amazed, it might as well be the best book I’ve ever read. It’s written so well and exactly how i love books, i love how you know the time date and perspective. I cried a little during the book as well! I highly recommend this book
I love you and I hate you, you cruel masterful piece of a writer! It was an amazing journey, beautiful and morbid. Couldn't get enough of it.
Mr Adam Silvera, you know how there are some books that stick with you forever once you’ve read them ? Yeah I’ve read all three of your novels. I truly admire your writing style and your heart moving stories. eagerly awaiting for what if it’s us? :):):)
Oh my god....u r THE ADAM writer of this amazing and beautiful book and I just found this video...
You are such an amazing writer and maybe I'm so late in telling u this but damn the book was 10/10 but please just write a sequel or something ...I can't with the end and I also want to know what happened to Delilah, it's still bugging me!!
Love u❤️
So, I kind of found this book by accident on audible, and I am so happy I gave it a chance. It broke me and gave me a new perspective on life. It helped me as I was having a rough time, and I thank you for that
Hi i'm from the Philippines. Thank you
ive never cried in my life like i did after reading this book. thank u sm for making me cry :'D
(and most likely get my heart ripped out of my chest in the process of doing so) :'D
PS: You're awesome.
I've read two of your novels already; More Happy than Not and They both Die at the End, and I am currently reading "History is all you left me" Gosh.. All of your books just really killed my soul... But I love it!
Adam silver ripped out my heart and stomped on it. And I loved it.
I have a few questions about they both die at the end (I absolutely loved it btw):
1) what would happen if someone didn’t have a phone.
Hopefully my copy arrives on September 5, I'd like to read it on that day. Congratulations on on the new book and here's to many more!
that would be awesome! Fingers crossed. Thanks for ordering!
I think I would agree with Lidia- Mateo didn’t deserve to die :’^)
If you ever revisited your idea of " The Brother dies at the end" and write that novel. I would love to see the small difference it has with "They Both Die at The End'
Travis Hunt what idea was that?
oh wow, you remembered that? I talked about it on the First Draft Podcast. I have a different Brothers story in the works now.
omg! it was supposed to be a BROTHERS die at the end? Didn't know that.
Eeeee so excited for this one! Both your others so far have been five stars for me and have made me sob. Just pre-ordered and entered to win the annotated collection! Fingers crosseddd
Until a day AFTER I finished reading They Both Die At The End,
I was pronouncing Rufus like 'r *u* ff-es'
I just finished reading this and OH MY GOD! I have never felt more pain in my life. Like seriously. I felt pain in my chest and had to really rethink stuff about my OWN life when I closed the book. Great job mate. I loved it ♥️
Just finished they both die at the end and just bought history is all you left me. I LOVED they both die at the end it’s my new favorite book 🤍
This book is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time
hi. your book made me just sit and think about my life and the fact I’m not living it the way I should.
Just finished the book. Thank you for this, thank you so much.❤
