  • Darin @ DASI takes you thru some of the methods he uses in order to Open and utilize Scan Data in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
Whether you are trying to recreate a broken part or don't have the CAD data.......or are trying to design something to fit and existing space, SolidWorks can incorporate those Point Clouds and Mesh Models into the design process.

Really good informative content! Question....how does one deal with errors in the mesh on import to solidworks. Example....mesh has topological errors, can this be rectified with scan to 3D?

Question for you. When you open an STL what open options are you usually using? Solidworks seams to default to graphics Body.

I've been looking into using 3D scanners for quality control/part inspection, but much much more importantly I do hobby antique boat restoration and would like something that I can scan a boat hulls. Do you have any recommendations for cheap and portable scanners I should be looking into? Thanks for the great video.

The gear is not symmetric at all. Cool to see the features but that would work in to make a working gear
