  • Support from NERC is improving the lives of around 4,000 semi-captive elephants working in the timber industry in Burma, and developing knowledge that will contribute to the conservation of this endangered species.

    This video was taken four years ago. I hope elephants are nolonger enslaved in Myanmar, India, Thailand, Laos and elsewhere.

      Your wish won't come true because those are tamed elephants for generations. Not wild elephants, they do not know how to live in wild. If you let them go, they will come back as Rubbish elephants which pick food from rubbish bins and steal from farming fields, end up will be shot by farmers. meanwhile Machines can not to work well in wet jungles unlike elephants. So locals and working elephants need each other.

      In my opinion,I do'nt think that is not putting into enslave.If we let them go in the forest they will not have full protrection from natural deseas and from human it self.
      It is difficult to reach out to the forest for medical treatment when it needed.
      That the only way to build relstionship between human and elephant.
      We know how to love them,because they are been introduce to people..that the way feel..

      They are protected as long as they are working with human...In the forest they die for many reason.

      Elephant is a god (ganesha) in Hinduism and they treat the animal very honorable manner.
