  • Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. To be diagnosed with depression, the symptoms must be present for at least two weeks.

Yeah. That sounds about right. Like the title says, Depression Sucks. Even with a referral from my doctor, getting in to see someone about it will take more than 2 months from the time of the referral. Not super helpful when you're going through something. Two months can seem like a lifetime when you're depressed.

I have never had depression and am so thankful that I haven't. But I would hope that if anyone in my life did, they could rely on me to help them in whatever fashion I could. It is so important to talk about and not be ashamed, scared, or embarrassed about. Getting help and support is so crucial. Thanks for this video!

David, I too, just recently was diagnosed with depression and anxiety (very mild). But I wake up overwhelmed and exhausted everyday. It is very frustrating to not be able to get help immediately because our healthcare in this country is so backwards. Stay strong and you are not alone!

#SayItLouderForThePeopleInTheBack DEPRESSION, STRESS AND ANXIETY ARE REALLLL! Mental health is such a taboo subject. Mental health, is almost if not more important to make sure it’s straight, than physical health!

Well said. There's a stigma around all these topics making people feel weak for experiencing them even though we ALL go through it. If more people were willing to talk about it, the stigma could go away and people could maybe feel a bit better about what they are dealing with :)

I completely agree with you! Depression is definitely a REAL thing and I hate that there’s not more awareness about it and it’s always swept under the rug. New Supporter, Keeping you in my thoughts! ‼️

Thank you so much. I've released a couple of videos on this topic and lots of people do in May for Mental Health Awareness Month, but the rest of the time it seems that people are considered weak for talking about it. I hate the stigma of anxiety and depression, but I keep plugging along and may do more videos on the topic later. Thank you for your support :)

You gotta “don’t break the chain”!
Just taking 10 minutes to do the smallest thing related to what you need to motivate yourself to be doing again every day will get you in the habit of being productive again. No excuses.

That's why I've been forcing myself to do certain things lately. Like making this video... I finally MADE myself do it.

We definitely need to revamp the entire heath care system and make sure everyone is taken care of. I know a lot of people in the same situation. Either can't get into help, or can't afford help. Such a sad situation. I'm no professional, but you can always talk to me if you really need to. Just hit me up.

Using one light is all you need. After the first setup, it shouldn't take too long to set it up? Can you tell me a bit about the problem regarding the lighting setup? Second: if America is like Canada or England, there isn't enough people to help. Don't feel bad about being away from social media that's actually a good thing. I've been dealing with this for half my life and I think you're on the right track. Stay busy, occupy your mind. Be careful of benzodiazpines, terribly addicting. This doesn't work for everyone but I find marijuana (indica, not sativa) to work better than any medication for depression, ie. prozac, zoloft, effexor et al., but again that's not for everyone. Making videos is odd, you feel as though you need to get it done and you get it done thinking you've done something so you'll feel better but then all the negativity about who will view this, why am I doing this etc. kicks in. It's like writing, I find, it's helpful but with a bit of a cost. So ... maybe try new things with the videos? Keep yourself surprised and excited and other people will catch it. And continue to be open about yourself as it helps distinguish you from other youtube channels of similar content. Keep at it and be patient and hopefully things will work out.

As far as the lighting thing is concerned, my recording area is in the living room, so I have to set it up and tear it down every time I make a video otherwise I can't use the living room. Normally I use multiple lights when I'm recording product review videos to make sure everything is lit up the way I want it.
I'm actually on antidepressants and I use marijuana to help, but that only seems to get me so far. Lately I don't get excited about much of anything. I've been feeling pretty useless and like I'm not moving forward in life. I'm not sure what to do next and that infuriates me.

Let me suggest trying an a smaller Aputure light that sits on your camera. I use them for eye lights and as fill but they can also be used for the key light as they put out a lot of light and they don't heat up, plus the small size is a bonus. This is even more powerful than the one I use, so let me suggest this: www.amazon.ca/dp/B00W4XLQ72/?coliid=I197X4X7MYF51E&colid=3G7K5CPVD5SKU&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
And it comes with a frost diffuser so you can look pretty as well as a tungsten conversion sheet. Very handy, takes no time at all to set up, and doesn't need to be on your camera as it comes with an adaptor to attach to a tripod, if needed.
I hear you. Do you have any favourite getaway places you could maybe go visit to cool down for a bit before you embark on new videos? And remember, I think I speak for everyone when I say this, your health is more important than anything, so if that means you get a bit behind in the videos, your viewers will understand - no one is pressuring you. But it sounds like your brain is doing the pressuring, so again, what works for me in those situations is a new setting, a new activity or two, and being with the people that mean most to me. And I don't know what current anti-depressants you're on but maybe speak to your doctor because there's many drugs in the same drug family, some seem to work better for some than others, so a switch or a change in dosage could also be a little something extra to look into. Oh, and have you ever tried yoga? My lazy ass needs to get back into it, but I do recall, after a couple weeks of doing it, noticing a change in my mood and outlook that only got better. My stopping it had nothing to do with its effectiveness, just my laziness.
Okay, better get on with my afternoon, take care.

I'll look into that light. Seems like it would be a good alternative for videos like this.
My wife has been trying to get me to do yoga for a while now. Maybe I need to just do it. Thanks for all of your support and kind words. I really appreciate it! Take care :)
