  • I remember when Katie Couric of The Today Show lost her husband at a young age to colon cancer. She then went on camera and had a colonoscopy to show people that it wasn't as scary (or icky!) as people thought. When I was old enough to get a colonoscopy, I thought back to Katie's test, and it helped to diffuse my fear.
When today's podcast guest, Marisa Peters, a Broadway vocalist and rectal cancer survivor, reached out to me to discuss rectal and colon cancer, I knew I needed to cover this topic.
Marisa was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer when she was 39 years old! Before her diagnosis, doctors mistook her cancer symptoms for post-partum symptoms and wouldn't test her for cancer. Marisa was a mother of three young boys and was in the best shape of her life. She knew something was wrong and had to become her own advocate to get the care she needed.
When most people hear "colorectal cancer," they think of a patient over the age of 50.
Give today's podcast a listen so you can understand the signs of this treatable disease.
