Nice work-around, but that was not my cup of tea. For once, I’m too young.
Beach Girl, one day you will not be able to say that; although I must admit, I am old and just can’t seem to get into hip hop and rap👵
Great analysis! Love the song.
Lastone,
One day is now; I just don’t care for that style of music (or hip hop!). I’m wired for rock, the Deep Purple, Sabbath, eighties hair metal, etc. type of rock.
This stuff sounds like it belongs in the soundtrack for “Pleasantville.”
I always appreciate Fil’s objectivity in the different styles of music he capitalizes. He’s obviously a rocker, but can appreciate other styles. Personally I love this kind of music along with many other styles. Good job on the analysis too!
Great band! No ad libs, no playback, no auto-tune - just pure TALENT!
Smart. I like your workaround. I actually found this last night and watched it, so I am ahead of the game! Love groups like The Tremeloes, The Vogues, The Turtles 🐢, Wee Five, etc. All great sixties sounds that this generation should hear. Thanks, Fil, for figuring it out❣️
Yes those with vocal abilities the human voice is one the greatest instruments
All male vocal groups. I would add The Four Seasons too.
I've never heard of Wee Five?
No auto-tune, anywhere. You're right that youngsters don't know that live bands can sound as good as their records, because today's musicians lack the skills.
This confirms the ridiculousness of the music moguls. Your review will introduce this wonderful band from the British Invasion to younger generations. They're too stupid to see they should have you on retainer.
Thanks Fil. Love this 60s band, along with Roy Wood, Ray Davies, Geoff Lynne, and so many more.
Love the “get around” you did in this type situation. Brill!
My favorite is Here Comes My Baby. Didn't know that both hits were cover songs. Rock!
I didn't know Here Comes My Baby was a cover song either. And written by one of my all time favorites, Cat Stevens no less!
it was absolutely the destiny of the tremeloes to cover "baby" and make it their own. i have always loved the live sound of that record and I cannot imagine a catchier melody!
I have always loved the Tremeloes. Silence Is Golden is my favorite song of all time. I loved hearing it play on the radio back then.
Pirate Labs Me, too! Here comes my Baby, another GREAT!!!!👍🏻👍🏻
Man, harmony to die for! Maybe a little behind the times for 1967, but from a 2019 viewpoint, who cares? Absolutely great.
Murray Van Creme Not really. As I have mentioned in other comments, having lived in that time, it was Eclectic, and whatever one did, that was
the norm. It was not a judging time in music, as I see on utube in today's, world. It was music, and a Big hit.
@@buckjohnson1119 Shirley, exactly right.
Shirley Strand Especially when FM radio hit the air and took off. You could hear everything from Joni Mitchell to Love to Charlie Daniels to Iron Butterfly. Was a great time for music !!!
I think the concept of showing another video when one is blocked is 👌 Well your song was great, I enjoyed it alot. I don't know much about the Tremeloes but I'm about to find out. Do what you do Fil, that's why I'm here. It's good to view your songs or your analysis'. Thanks Fil.!!
Thanks!
Darla Tidwell I couldn’t agree with your comment more! Well said.
Elaine McDonald Fil is pretty cool 👍👍
I love The Tremeloes! They were a great band.i was a teenager in the 60's and I have always loved music. ❤️🌹❤️
I like that you were resolute and presented the information that you wanted to present.
I am scanning through your back catalogue and was stunned to see this piece on the Tremeloes. 1st. I've always loved the Tremeloes (and many other British Invasion bands). But, and 2nd, there is only one other reaction to this band that I can find on CZcams. That is a pity because they were so so good. This song is a gem, as was the Cat Stevens penned beauty, "Here Comes My Baby', and "Yellow River', and even their cover of "Proud Mary'' . I can tell that your analysis is not only intricate and detailed but enthusiastic. You like these guys too and that cheers my bones. Thank you.
Well done sir, well done love hearing you speak on bands, your insight is awesome. 🤘
I’ve always been a fan of bands with quality vocals, and the Tremeloes are a great example. There’s something magical about a band that can produced the beautiful sound of voices joined in perfect harmony....there are few who can do it, particularly live. And, as you pointed out, singing in multiple part harmony can be extremely difficult, not to mention playing instruments at the same time. A good choice for one of your spot-on reviews, thanks Fil.
One thing people may not be aware of is in that era there were so many places to play (they didn't pay well but they paid). Add to this the fact that most of the gigs were where people danced. I'm of that era and I could literally go to 6 dances a week and later when I was playing I could play 6 nights a week.
So when you look at those numbers it was just so much easier to learn the newest hits + some golden oldies. Your goal as a band at that time was to see how many times you could get someone to go buy a drink. and keep them dancing
I recorded @ Len Hawkes studio in his house @ Sunningdale & he wanted my P bass. Jody engineered the tracks. We used to hang out @ the Red Lion & the Wells with Chesney & Keeley. Nice family!
Cool!
Talk about a blast from the past! So good!!
Brilliant! Thank you for sticking to it -- after all, why waste all that great commentary?!
I love their music. I watched their videos over and over again already. I had teenage sisters who had me listen to the radio. 60s and 70s. I remember 'Yellow River'.
Love you work brother!!!!
Excellent workaround on this Fil. This technique will come in handy when/if the copyright gods rear their heads.
One of the most evocative, haunting in a way, sounds of the 60s with this song. Beautiful live performance.
Thanks Neal!
I grew up listening to these guys. Watching their videos today is a treat. it really stands out that these guys had fun on stage. It is infectious!
Onya Fil! Love your ingenuity and positivity.
Thank you, Fil, for persisting and bringing this analysis to us - with your customary kindness toward all. 🤘
Fil, Great idea ingenious, clever & your analysis was right on. The Tremeloes had so much harmony, they played an amazing live performance. /m\
Fil: “Let me introduce you to a great act from years ago so you might seek out their recordings and buy them.”
Music companies: “BLOCKED!!!”
Morons.
Agreed !
😂👍
I do remember this song though I haven't heard it in almost forever. Great points about the performance, and glad you decided to do the video this way to make it work. 👍
Excellent way to go Fil!
Thanks for making it possible for us to see a great live version. Definitely a great job of making it possible for us to see and hear a superb live version of it. It was all over AM radio play summer of '67, especially when we were on summer vacation as it was released in May of 1967. Yet another great Bob Gaudio composition. As a smooth, melodic piece of love "message music" (like To Sir With Love) I had always wished you'd analyze it, never actually thinking you would as there's no awesome guitar work, which you tend to favor. Thanks so very much for taking me back to my younger youthful days of the British invasion. You, sir, are so very varied in your taste and your ability to appreciate all the great early, classic music pieces. So very awesome of you to present this classic love song!
Great song, loved the British Invasion! Well crafted song! Beautiful harmonies You gotta cover The Animals🤘🏻
Be fair don't forget about the bugs and reptiles
Don’t forget about the Mosquitoes from that Gilligan’s Island episode...... hmmm remember that one ☝🏻
@@jazzcat8786 no, were they any good
@@jazzcat8786 I had to take a look, definitely don't remember them. I wonder why?
1967 ,known as the summer of love ,sure love Here comes my baby ,a so groovy song and the 60s ,oh yes.
What an auditory cortex you have young man. Your points made plus the lack of adequate and separate monitor mix (in the ear) back then. I teach my produced bands attempting harmony to sing slightly sharp if they get lost.
Spot on again fil! Saw them live in their prime ! Unbelievable tight vocals and and perfect sound balance !!
Brilliant analysis. This band was so tight and accomplished. I didn't pay much attention to them back in the day, although I was the right age (16 in 67) to track them. I really loved Here Comes My Baby, but it's only since I have gotten old that I've rediscovered them and seen how good they were. Four great singers, four good musicians. Thanks for highlighting them. They deserve to be remembered.
I think this is a good idea, makes sense with the vagueness of the copyright algorithms. Folk music in the 50's / 60's was a staple on TV and radio, lots of groups like the Four Freshmen, Four Seasons, The Tokens, Four Tops (see the pattern :D ). I can see why they were chosen over the Beatles in 1962, more bankable. Thanks for the analysis, always stop on.
As a 60s teen I just liked the songs. As an adult I am in aw of their harmony on top of their musicianship.
Love your persistence and determination. Thanks again Fil. ❤️🤘
The Tremeloes we’re so solid vocally I always thought they were strictly vocalists, like the Four Seasons. Nice to learn they were much more.
All the 4 Seasons played instruments except Frankie Vallli even though they usually used a backing track for the instruments or a live band. The Jersey Boys stage show didn't touch on this. They were strictly vocalists.
One of my favorite songs...nice to see the people dancing in the video..they sound great live❤
Always love your analysis of bands, you highlight so much,... Thank you. Keep it up!
Great thinking outside the box Fil. Even though the vid was blocked. you managed to pull off the analysis. Cheers man, great job...
Nice one Fil. I watched the footage ,then went back to your analysis. Yes, I noticed the feedback too 😊 It's great you're covering bands from the 60's. Born in '69 ,I missed out first hand the incredible musicians of the decade , but by my teens ,it was the 1960's music that made me want to play guitar. 👍👍👍
@@GUR-ARYEA Hi, just about to go out , but I just subbed to your channel ,so I'll check it out later 👍
Good job with the work around. Definitely worth including this great band. I well remember this song blaring through my radio back during the "Summer of Love."
So glad you decided to give us your analysis. Pretty sure we all know the song, so most of us know what part of the song you talk about. Thank you for deciding to do it this way.
I think the Tremeloes were the first band I ever saw live, in Harrogate, probably 67 or 68. Another great analysis Fil.
I have this video in my music library. Silence Is Golden was the first "slow song" I ever danced to at a sock hop. It always made me cry (I was still a baby...).
You're a true music lover Fil. Love your determination to share great groups and their songs.
Fil, was going to suggest this exact performance by the Tremeloes and quickly saw you have covered this-Great stuff
Thank you for your beautiful and intrcate tribute to the fantastic Tremeloes 💖
Good work around! Good information about the band.
This was the very first single I purchased at the age of 12 with my pocket money all those years ago. I still have the single in my record collection. Makes me feel old. Great band. Thanks Fil.
Way to go, Fil!! You ROCK!!! Superb harmonies by the Tremeloes. Thank you for reminding me of all these great musicians from my youth...so refreshing!!
Great comeback, Fil, to yesterdays debacle with the copyright stuff. I find it odd that we can watch the vid in its entirety on CZcams but you could not show it in parts as you analyzed it! Certainly glad you found a way to circumvent "whatever" and present this fabulous performance. I always enjoyed hearing The Tremeloes back then but never got to see them perform live. This artful use of tech by you took care of that, thank you. Like 386. /:-)
Great vid Fil!
Totally agree about the vocal harmonies. I've not had a chance to see The Tremeloes play live, but I do see Rick from time to time and it's always great hearing stories about the band, especially during the recording of Silence Is Golden.
Take it easy buddy
Ty Fil, nice to point out the realities of producing live music of very high quality.
Damn Fil.
If YT kills you, no more using YT for music for me...
I burned in all of favorite stuff in 99?
Listening to your analysis and research is the only reason I do music on CZcams.
Rock buddy!
Remember the brief moment of Napster?
Thanks!
Fil, as you know, the 60s-80s were witness to a plethora of great voices and tunes, lyrics and singers. I LOVE THIS GROUP. AND THIS SONG. Also Turtles, Little Rascals, Dave Clark 5, Four Seasons, the Vogues, The Association Marmalade, Vanity Fair, Mamas and Papas, of course, the Beatles, and on and on. So many great melodies!!!! Thanks for highlighting all of them.
I was into psychedelic rock and folk that year but I remember hearing it and of course by the four Seasons. When the latter sang it all they had to focus on was singing. I'm impressed that the Tremelos could juggle it all so well. I also appreciate your ingenuity with this. Thanks for opening my eyes and mind to new discoveries!
I watch this video quite often ! They were really good in their area of pop music... very professional band and talented ! Like you said , another addition to the British Invasion that just shows how diverse the field was ! Great choice Fil !
Great video. You might want to look at a similar group from the same time period called the Fortunes. Great songs and vocal harmonies and they're still performing.
Again. So sorry youtube is messing with you, but thank you for featuring The Tremeloes. I know they're particular style isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I have eclectic taste and I love the uniqueness of their sound. Not a lot of bands can perform with this type of quality. The high notes above the other three vocalists makes a fascinating effect and the lyrics of the song are beautiful as well and i feel that their sound captures the emotion of the song subject.
Woot woot! The 60s had so much variety. I still listen to all my favees.
Hi Fil, So educational as always; this was a much more impressive performance than I ever knew before you showed me. The days before autotune are surely to be treasured. Such a pity about the strike; hope this doesn't mean you're on the YT fun police's RADAR now.
Released in 67, great year! I was born at the end of 67. Totally enjoy the Tremelos and this one of my favs.
I love the Tremeloes. Too bad they block your video. They are just stopping people from discovering great music.
YES!!!!!! It makes me crazy that they are so short-sighted with their copyright madness. It keeps everyone from finding music like this. So stupid! Let's keep yelling about this and maybe they'll wake up and realize and change.
Yeah it's a shame, and it seems like it's only going to get worse unfortunately!
Couldn't agree more. Fil is gaining notoriety in the music business. It was so cool that there band (Fanny?) that even came on the comment section and made comments. That shows respect for what you are doing, but you ALWAYS show respect for the artists. Great workaround.
My next door neighbor in New York was the uncle of Chip Hawks. He was a stone mason and often complained that Chip/Len was driving a new red Jag at 21 y.o. while he was still banging round in an old pickup truck. Pls review "...My Baby." Thx!
This works. I like that you didn't give up on a band you think is important.
My Parents liked Herman's Hermits and Gerry and the Pacemakers too.
Clever workaround for the video, Fil! Looks like you found a great solution to react to blocked videos.
I’ve always loves this song, but now whenever I hear it I’m reminded of the scene in “Love Actually” when Colin Firth’s character is blathering on about “Silence is Golden” and how it’s a Tremeloes song but originally by the Four Seasons and then begins to hum the falsetto part and fails miserably. There’s an indication of how difficult that is to sing (and how you can look like a complete idiot when trying to impress a woman).
Hello from Toronto. Love to hear a review of Rush La villa stragiato....live ....the whole thing :) Thanks Fil love the show.
Thank you so much for doing this, my family member was Allen Blakley, I grew up with the Trems. I always went to there shows with my mother. We followed the Trems everywhere. It was such a shame that Dave Munden passed recently. Most of the main members have left now. Seems Chip is the only one still singing. This group should have been larger than they were. They should have had more success. Well done for this video and recognizing them.. Make me so happy to see Allen and Dave again..
thank him Please if he is still alive
@@oldermusiclover unfortunately
Dave died in 2021, Allen died 1996, two really nice people…
Brilliant. Nice workaround. :)
Great way to get around the block! Love The Tremeloes! Silence Is Golden is still a favorite!! It just has a way of hitting you in the feels ! Great song and vocals! ♥️
Without wishing to blow smoke, Fil, I really admire your skill and good nature in dealing with this event. You are wise beyond your years!
The Trems really are a British institution and always were highly professional. Yes, R & B (when it was just that - rhythm and blues) die hard that I was then, I would curl my lip at the this group's work, but now I can appreciate them, just as you say.
I haven't heard (as I can remember) the demo tape that the Tremeloes sent to Decca, but (like many) I have heard the one from the Beatles. I hazard to state that the former was probably a far more professional piece of work and more in line with public tastes at that time; so who then can blame Dick Rowe for his choice?
Thanks again, Fil.
Fill, I just opened your Analysis on one tab and the Tremeloes on another tab. Adjusted the volume lower on the Tremeloes and your Analysis worked just great with the music in the background. Jeff in the USA.
Cool!
Fil, Thanks for this analysis. I'm 62 and have been a music fan since childhood (Elvis and the Everly's) I've been a fan of the Trems since 1963. In 1969 the band began writing and recording their own stuff. The result was the album "MASTER" (1970) it was a Magnificent LP with a harder edge (Harmony Guitar Solos and Rockier vocals) it's well worth checking out the Trems 70s stuff. Thanks again, Gary.
Hey Fil, I hit the thumbs-up button BEFORE I watched the video because I already knew I was going to enjoy your analysis! When I first heard this song in 1966 it just completely knocked me out. I loved it and even knew right up front that I was not hearing a Beach Boys single. When I acquired my own wheels (with tape 8-track deck) I always had this song ready so I could sing along to it.
Here are some bands Id like to see analyzed:
(1960's) The Dave Clark Five ... The Zombies ... The Troggs ... Manfred Mann ... The Yardbirds ... The Searchers ... The Moody Blues ... Spencer Davis Group ... Gerry & The Pacemakers
(1980's, mostly new wave & glam rock) Duran Duran, The Cure, The Clash, Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, The Human League, The Police, Dire Straits
Thanks!
What an amazing band- so much talent and energy in their performances.
GOD Bless the British Invasion! Just sit back and reflect on all the great bands & songs we got from it.
Another great song that they did was Christie’s Yellow River- I think they actually acted as the backup band on Christie’s recording of it if I’m not mistaken.
Allen Blakley’s of the Trems brother Michael Played the drums on this track, was awesome to see him on here, all are family…
I love your dedication toward educating your listeners on what talent is regardless of genre. excellent analysis on the Tremeloes and rundown on the 1960's. thanks for not giving up on featuring the Tremeloes.
Thank you reminding me of this
Great band with such amazing voices! Brilliant how these guys all have the same hairstyle! Thank you for all your hard work Fil and tenacity!! Cheers Mario! 😀👌🤘🤘
Thanks Mario!
I've been watching this video for several months now and remembering the bands that could both vocalize well, and play well. Certainly the Tremeloes fit that category. Silence is Golden, and Here Comes My Baby are two classics. A truly great band for the ages. One thing that has been bugging me though, what amps are those? Are they Danelectros?
Good question, it's difficult to answer definitively!
@@wingsofpegasus I was leaning towards Danelectro by the lettering on the amps, and they were some of the first European style amps to actually have a Tremelo circuit built in.
The trems were a great sixties seventies band.for me as a teenager then it was the trems and the hollies.fabulous
Hello Phil, as always thumbs up great job, great information. Merry Christmas again I hope you’re feeling better now. So with that said, I gotta get one of those pants.🙏🏻🎸🎶👨🏻🦽🌲🌲☕️🎅🏻
I was 5 when this came out and it was one of my favorite songs! It's kinda funny I just went to a Korn and A&C concert this week, and after listening to this music I still love this song and this group, incredible music and talent always stay the test of time!!! Yup I was singing along at 2:30 am!
Great Video! Hope you get to analyze the most underrated rock band that's not in the USA rock & roll hall of fame...THE SWEET!
The Sweet rules!
It is strange that this song is all over CZcams now, especially several live versions. Great band, great song, and some very good information from Fil.
Thanks for pushing through with all the issues of blocking going on now! I had totally forgotten about the Tremeloes. (As a side note: I recieved an Amazon email mentioning a new book,.....I had to click on it because it was: Wings of Pegasus by Jay Allan lol)......have a better week!
Another note for the Tremeloes is the song, Yellow River. They were offed the song by Jeff Christie. They completed the music for the song but didn't feel right about the vocal. The song eventually went back to Jeff to sing the vocals with the groups music backing him. As in every music story there are a few other twists to the story. But that's for another day. LoL
I love that song, I was just a little kid in the 60s but in my 60s I’m finding these awesome groups!
Had the single Silence Is Golden. And yes my mom liked it too.
I remember buying when I was a kid, "Here Comes My Baby". The various voices in the background used as effect was unique.
The Association is another band with a similar style and harmonies. They had a number of hits... Never My Love, Cherish, Windy, Along Comes Mary... And the whole band sings on most of their songs! Good stuff!
the Wrecking Crew played on their hits
@@oldermusicloverWho are you referring to ? The Wrecking Crew never played on the Tremeloes' records. Only the English groups that came over here used The Wrecking Crew. The Tremeloes recorded in England. The Wrecking Crew didn't travel to England. I don't remember the Tremeloes ever being on TV over here. I was 22 in 1967 so I would have remembered. The Wrecking Crew basically worked with American artists. DC5 haters try to say that the Wrecking Crew worked with the DC5 but they didn't. Dave Clark's records were made in England.
@@wesleycook7687 No the crew never worked as a whole on the UK songs but I do know via some books one of who Hal Blaine wrote that from time to time some of the guys were flown into a session in the UK one of the main drummers in the UK was the late Bobby Graham he in fact was the drummer on the early Dave Clark Five song although he was never given credit. also some of the song, like Because were NOT written by Dave but he took the money and ran
@@wesleycook7687 ps the Crew did play on some of the Associations songs
@@oldermusiclover I knew a DC5 hater would surface. That's the reason I made the comment. No, Dave was in the sound booth during recording. He used session drummers but Graham wasn't good enough. I've heard him play. He's nothing special. Dave played live on their live gigs of course. Sir Paul Mccartney said so. The DC5 played live in 62 and 63 and they had to be good to get a recording contract and then knock the Beatles out of number one. They were Ed Sullivan's first choice but they didn't know who Sullivan was since the show didn't air in England. That was a year before the Beatles. No bull. I read that in the History Of The Dave Clark Five on U Tube. As for the Association, I don't know. Maybe. It would have been a USA recording. The Wrecking Crew didn't travel to England. The bands came here. There were 5 drummers in the Wrecking Crew. Don't remember any of them except Sandy Nelson. Bobby Graham ? When was he a member.
Great analysis as usual Fil. I didn't know much about The Tremeloes, but I sure appreciate tight harmonies and these lads have it in spades. Been watching your videos for a while now and your back to back run of Bruce Cockburn, Gerry Rafferty an Al Stewart a week or so ago finally convinced me to subscribe. Keep 'em coming. ROCK! 🤟 p.s.: How 'bout some vintage Joe Jackson?
I’ve loved the Tremeloes since I was a kid in the 1960s. I remember when they were on an episode of The Flintstones.
The Four Season's great version of Silence is Golden was chucked away as the B side of Rag Doll.- in 1964. However, it was a fantastic version- the harmonies and the percussion parts. Brian Poole & the Tremeloes also covered the song Someone Someone- a Crickets song written by Vi Petty- Norman Petty's wife from 1960 which was a hit in 1964. I loved that song as a kid- and maybe the central theme of it is true.
I spent an afternoon with Rick W. in the home of one of the Rubbettes - just chatting. He played with them for a while after Tony Thorpe left. I learned quite a lot about their background.
I remember listening to the Tremeloes back when I was in high school, but I hadn't thought of them for years. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Such great vocals. And speaking of bands with great vocals, how about analyzing Three Dog Night? I loved them so much especially their songs when Cory Wells sang lead. He had such a soulful voice.
I think we should confer an honorary degree on Professor Fil, for his diligence in bringing to the masses an understanding of the genres and techniques that make music an enriching experience.
“Silence is Golden” by The Tremolos, also got a lot of air play in the USA on the “adult” stations, which usually wouldn’t touch any “teen” music (which was how rock & roll records were categorized at the time).
I recall a while ago having a chat with someone re how to best define falsetto - I used (on the fly) Paul's high note in She Loves You as a reference but now you mention it this song is a good example also.
I'am commenting b4, i take a look see, @ the video.... I love 'Silence Is Golden', and 'Here Comes My Baby', my fav's and 'The Tremolos'.... That 60's harmonizing! Unforgettable! 'The British Invasion' was very welcome in 'The Summer Of Love' ...
Thanks Paula!

The Tremeloes were also responsible for boosting Cat Stevens' notoriety, with a cover of Here Comes My Baby. They are a great group. Great analysis video. Cheers!
I have No recollection of The Four Season's Release, of this song, and I was living in that time, and enjoyed their music. It was the Tremelo's version, of Silence is Golden, that I loved.
