*Tip for dovetail router bits:* They're often a bit fragile because of the forces of the wide cutting edge versus the thinner neck, so do your first pass(es) with a straight bit to hog out material from the centre of the channel, then a second round with the dovetail bit to finish the sides. The bit is less likely to snap, AND the cutting edge will stay sharp much longer 😉
That's really clever!
Yep that’s the best way of preserving your dovetail bit and safety of it not snapping and being flung at you
Also, it helps the process feel smoother. Going full hog with the dovetail bit right off the bat will make the router have to work extra hard and as a result you also have to hold it more strongly to stay the course. You'll reduce the risk of the piece jerking to the side, rocking (and hence lifting it off the bit) and other mishaps. As with every other cut you'll want your finishing cut to remove as little material as reasonably possible. You'll also get a smoother surface with minimal chipping this way.
Very valid tip, and that goes for everything on the router, really. Even if it is totally capable of taking off everything in a single pass, doesnt mean you should.
I always love how in the edit you'll cut in the middle of a thought to being in a completely different area but still remember how to finish the sentence you were on.
It's called having a script 😅
@@iamchriswick I doubt it. No sense in writing a script for an activity as you're doing it. I think he's just made videos in this style for a very long time and has developed a skill for it.
@Miniac what an intersection of my two hobbies seeing you here!
I love how you mentioned YOU sanded and applied finishing to all the parts and then show Hilda doing all the boring stuff... XD
I just came here to call him out for that 🤣
@@iamuzairahmad Really weird thing for you to say
@@iamuzairahmad Do you think that for _every_ couple you see doing projects together? I think it would be extremely weird if _all_ the work on every house/apartment should be done by just one of the people, in case they're not gonna stick together.
@@PikkaBird usually the couples I see are not CZcamsrs doing a whole apartment renovation on their own (they renovate by paid workers). Secondly, I am from Pakistan where living together without marriage is not a common practice. So, I think my say on this is not general rather specific to this case only.
P.S. i am a HUGE fan of alex, so don't take my words for a hater.
@@PikkaBird In our culture, if man and woman (always husband or wife) contribute something towards house, we are like "ah right, he/she is part of the family, if they are not gonna do it and who else?" but in this case, they are still gf-bf not even fiancé so... if you get my point.
Still, I wish best for Hilda, i think i should delete my comment as well.
I can't get over how I'm finding excitement and joy watching you complete your dream living space while simultaneously completely ignoring working on my own. 🤣 Regardless, love the content and very happy to see everything come together for you two. Keep up the good work!!
That Blum locking drawer-shelf - I actually used in a drawer for a projector (ultra short throw type). It always pulls out to the same place and stays locked - never need to calibrate the focus :) and when not in use - I can hide it.
Love the wardrobe. Great way to maximize the use of the height of the room!
I love how extra everything is! What an amazing job
It would have been really cool to have the laundry basket slide between the bedroom and the bathroom, but since the bathroom's already built and sealed that would be more work than necessary. But I'm loving all the storage solutions!
yeah cool idea
wait a sec, why is your comment 3 days ago while the video got uploaded 32mins ago
@@iamuzairahmadmaybe Patreon preview?
@@iamuzairahmad dunno I saw the video several days ago from the playlist, could be the slotted it in there first 🤷♂️
That is a cool idea that would have unintended side effects I think. Smells, noises, those darn Narnianians using your bathroom
I love how your made the place your own with smart solutions and colours - scandi homes can be so white, beige, and grey so I really appreciate the the green, yellow and wood tones throughout your home. I'm more of a 1910s - 1930s simple but vintage girly so not really my style but love how you guys have worked with the space you have!
Love your energy ❤
Regarding the broken bit in the beginning, I've always used as cheap a bit as I can get away with, so to counter that tendency to overload it, I first make a couple of measured passes on the tablesaw and hog out a good bit of the material that way first.
The kerfs left by the blade mean the router bit has a lot less work to do, refining the profile of the cut instead of forcing its way through all that material.
Plus, it leaves channels in the wood for the dust to go and not heat up around the bit, potentially softening the metal.
AND it keeps the bit going in a straight line a lot easier, following the path of least resistance left by the saw blade.
So many amazing details. Thanks for bringing us along for the journey!
Absolutely fantastic work! Thank you for sharing your experience with us ❤
cool! I have to remember to get those moving thingy for hanging shirts and coats when we plan for new furniture. And I love those light on the bed wall, nice little details. Thanks for video :)
Living in a small apartment, I know the struggles of storage far too well. Your apartment looks like a dream, so good that it makes me want to take up woodworking! :)
This makes me so happy!
Very cool build. Sooo creative!! Great job!!!👏 👏👏
You all did a fantastic job… thanks for sharing. I love your videos.
Love all the bespoke furniture. Especially the nightstand at the window is perfect. The only thing I don't like is the 3D printed handles.
Like the shape and design of them, but the printing makes it look cheap. Those but in metal or wood would be cool.
Always so many great ideas. Looks awesome.
Looks easy to put in place :D Love
Incredible work !
What an awesome work again! Love the way you built the drawers.
Congratulations on the milestone!
Nice work. The wardrobe and room looks great!
Great video! Cabinetry projects take so much extra labor per minute of content and you did a great job showing the work in creative edits while keeping a good pace and not getting bogged down in the details - Kudos! I love the use of space with the bedside cubby and locking table too :)
Your woodworking skills are just insane!
I love the fold down clothing racks! You’re exactly right, if it were just rods up there you’d hardly use it considering the pain it’d be to have to find a step stool to reach. I could see that function being a great option for a lot of ppl. Very nice, coming along great!
Nice job, please use home assistant to automate that room.
Great work! Your very talented!
what a great video alex!
Looks great
looks very cool
That pattern is for me a huge reference to Star Wars. Death Start Interior Light. 😀
Super nice wardrobe!
veramente bravo, uno dei migliori
Amazing!
Feel like going on a blum shopping trip when watching your videos❤
Where are your fancy window coverings/blinds?
Amazing!!
Duuuude! That tip on 18:34 😱🤤 Megusta
That's some beautiful lumber.
This guy is like a woodwork genius!!
He's a guy who does a little woodworking
Nice auxiliary fly added to your jeans!
Could be handy 😅
It's crazy to see how much preparation goes into your projects. Everything is always very thought off. The way you think ahead of time is absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work! Would love to see a link to the Blum locking slide and the headrest lights?
Good job!
One question on the „completely done“ theory though: windows blinds? :D
Digging the Star Wars theme speaker grill ;)
The air vent grill reminds me of the light pattern from the death star
with the green color it reaaly looks like a nice hotel room
Eres un crack.
Enhorabuena
17:30 probably waaaaaay to late, but installing a water dispenser would be so sick in that little nook
Very nice, Alexandre -- will you protect the cabinet front from the door handle?
Så jävla coolt!
An IKEA Symfonisk speaker likes to receive a manual reboot or even reset every once in a while. You'll love to climb and disassemble to get to it I'm sure!
That drawer pulls would be so much Super if they were metal electroplated
Finally a good night "sleep" 😊
i like it..
I admire the planning that goes into this. Congratulations on the beautiful work and thank you for inspiring a lot of people!
Hi Alexandre, I was wondering which tools you use to trim your oak veneer with. I'm planning on attempting this soon but don't have the tools so any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm loving the progress that you and Hilda are making with your amazing home. Keep up the good work!
someone should hire you to design and do something like this to some luxury hotel rooms!
Can Vilda reach the pull-downs without a stool 😂 i need to use one to get in my kitchen cupboards 😅
I'm definitely going to have a go at building one of these for my channel. Thanks Alex!
Fantastic work, Alexandre! Really well done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
BTW, you guys need a cat!
12:15 for the actual footage of the drawer. 🎉
why does everything always fit so prefectly!! SUS!
Vilken färg har du i sovrummet? Sjukt snyggt!
Top 🔝
Nice bottle of gluechup
Bro, one day I wanna give you my home's complete project ...😊
Pull yourself together man!
It’s quit obvious you are maxing out!
Have a wicked rest, you earned it!!
I love the minimalistic design. Bedroom is for sleeping and making little people only.
Worst thing is having to wait for the next video
You should maybe have more light when filming in your bedroom, just a tip. One youtuber to another :D
The laundry basket needs some ventilation so the laundry won’t smell bad.
Hooray! Praying for no plastic in this one ❤❤❤
Should have put some wireless chargers into the side tables in the bedroom
Did you do something to reduce the noises of the toilet pipe running near the bed head ?
What is the lowering clothes hanger thingy called? Where can I find it?
Question: do you still use the camera arm that you have built ??
That's more of a tongue and groove joint than a dovetail. A dovetail looks like folded fingers.
What kind of designing software are you using?
Would you have a link to the 3d printed "distance spaces and template" files?
Love the lamps you used in the headboard! Who sells these in Norway/Oslo-area??
Modular lighting instruments 👍
Kan jeg også spørre hvilken variant og dimmer dere gikk for@@achappel ?
Are you planning to fabricate a clothes organizer using 3D printing, akin to the method employed for the kitchen organization project?
Fixing the gap was a happy mistake not only did you fill in the gap but it also made it stronger and if you happen to put heaver or extra weighted things in it. So that was a happy mistake!
Just wondering.. for how long were you using the yellow tape handles? :))
11:00 Are you sure you did not get the idea from Star Wars? 😀
edit: missing word.
I’m wondering whether you are DIYing the furniture to get it cheeper than let’s say IKEA or is it more expensive but utilizes the entire space more effociently
👍
Its funny how all the youtuber say they used Square Space before Square space sponsored them. Is it a coincidence???
Is it a IKEA hack mirror next to your wardrobe ? If so, how did you fix the mirror in place ? I simply reversed the piece and hung it with a French cleat but the top isn’t super pretty 😅
Do you still use your camera trolley?
I am curious, how much the materials cost are for the wardrobe.
Wow. 2 years? I'm currently building an entire house, 768 sq ft I technically started this month and I'll be done in 2 months. Granted nothing is custom build and it's the bare minimum standard. I'm' building a 50x80x16 foot garage after the house is built which will take another 5 months. This is all by myself.
Ughhhh, MORE remodeling videos? I’ll watch it, but I miss the channel before the apartment…
Can you recommend a decent countersink drill bit? I'm from EU.
Fisch by far the best bits! I got mine from axminster
why the speaker mesh is not in the center?
Love how you completely covered up the cleanout for your sewage system so it can't be accessed.
How did you end up with that gap between your legs?😆
Just kidding!
I enjoy your channel, keep it up! 😁
in belgium we sel scheets of 1220X2440 but also 2070X2800
Man, you are like the Jesus of home renovation. I get a ton of ideas for when I have my own home! 🤩
