  • I’ve been living in New Zealand for almost 10 years, and have been living abroad alone (without family around) for 8 and a half of those. Living, working, and studying here by myself away from my family has been extremely difficult, but also extremely rewarding, and I want to share with you my experience of living abroad by myself. There is a common misconception that living abroad is a fairytale, but it’s actually far from that. Living abroad changes you and challenges you, emotionally, mentally (and sometimes even financially), but it definitely makes you grow as a person and I want to share my own experience of what it was like for me.
I hope you enjoy the video, and if you do, please remember to SUBSCRIBE to my channel! I create videos about my travels, adventures, experiences, and lifestyle here in NZ and share my journey of exploring the true meaning of “living life to the fullest”.

Hi Ate Juls! This was a very informative video regarding your troubles going abroad. I clicked on your video because I’m actually going to study abroad alone in Palmy tomorrow! I needed a video to relate to because i’ve been really scared these days, especially since it’s my first time going abroad and completely separate from my family. Totally can relate to that part about excelling in college (i’ve been in an online set-up in an nz college for a year!), and still currently feeling that right now. Can I ask what course you took when you were in college? I found college (at first) to be easy, but I eventually found it hard to excel (get As) because the assessments take a lot of time to do (essays, research, etc.) and each assessment must be really high in score because failing one will pull your grades down. Though, I hope grades won’t be all my mindset when I come to NZ because i wanna enjoy too! I still have a lot to go through and experience and I know that I can console your video to help soothe me somehow when I experience similar troubles. Keep making videos, Ate!!

Hello!! Thanks so much for your comment, I'm glad you found it relatable and informative!
I was studying part time towards a degree in communications, but interestingly enough I actually decided to put this on hold for now, and I've just recently enrolled myself and will be doing full time study towards a diploma in creative marketing. I will be doing this all online as well! Yes I agree they can be hard but my advice is to keep connected and don't keep it all to yourself. If you're having trouble with assessments etc, talk to your tutors or other students who might be feeling the same as you and you can help each other out :)
I get what you mean in terms of wanting really good grades, but in my opinion (and probably depending on what you're studying), as long as you pass your papers/course, the grades won't really matter as much! I think in the Philippines grades are more of a big thing, but I think im New Zealand its more about your (work) experience, and qualifications are just a bonus (depending on the industry of course). In saying that, the reason why I decided to go back to full time study is to really follow my passion and learn what I want to learn, rather than to get the qualification to get a good job etc.
I'm sure you will have lots of fun with your studies and you will do well! I used to live in Palmy for 8 years and its definitely a good town for students, so good luck and wishing you all the best! :)
