  • This is my Top Flite P-47 60 size kit. Robart retracts and robart struts. Custom made gear covers from fiberglass. Getting the angles and everything situated correctly to properly close was very time consuming. I use strong magnets to help hold the inner door open and close. The wheel itself helps close the door and open it. There is no servo on the inner door.

Sorry for the late reply... I used Robart air retracts. With a tiny HS-81 servo actuating the air valve. These are the Robart 605HD (90 degree Air Retracts) with the 653L and 653R strut covers ... The manual called for the 85 degree retracts, but I went with the 90 degree ones after I modified the mounting rails to make them retract further up in the wing.

Hey man, nice scale retracts do you operate them with air? If yes you should restrict the air going out of the cilinder for smooth and strong operation that is when the restrictors are Free flow in and restricted out, i am a pneumatic specialist so If you have any questions just ask ok, cheers mate greets from the Netherlands, Michael.

I have a build thread here on RCScalebuilder... I added the link to the description of the video.
You may have to register to get to the forum though... registration is free... but to post you have to be a site supporter... but once you register you can view the posts...On page 10 of my build thread I talk about the retracts...
I also added a link to a bunch of pics in the description as well... if you need more pics or a video let me know... I'd be glad to help out...

Can you explain how you did the inner door set up?

Sorry for not replying sooner... Not sure if you are still interested... First of all, the inner doors are purely mechanical... That is there is no servo or anything driving them. The are purely put up(closed) and down by the wheel. They are closed by the wheel hitting the lever inside the wing, which causes the metal rod with the clevises to pull the door shut. They are put down by the wheel "falling" and pushing the door open. There are 3 strong little magnets that help hold the inner doors in the open or closed position. One is on the lever that moves up and down inside the wing. One is between the hinges on the inside of the bottom sheeting (this one is used to hold the inner door open). The last magnet is on the top sheeting(inside the wing). This helps hold the lever in the closed position(maybe not necessary since the wheel will usually do this).
The inner doors, of course, are hinged to the bottom of the wing... I actually notched out the bottom sheeting of the wing a little so the hing half that hooks to the wing is recessed a little. I think I added strips of balsa on the inside of the wing to screw the hinge into. I used tiny screws and nuts to connect the other hinge half to the inner door. I used tiny control horns on the inside of the inner doors. They are what the little clevis's hook onto. The clevises are screwed onto two ends of a very small push rod ( I think used for tiny electrics). The push rod was bent into the upper part of a goal post. Has to be wide enough for the bottom part of the tire to fit between. Before bending this pushrod, I put it through a little pushrod tube. This pushrod tube is hooked to the lever... In this video it was just duct taped till I figured out the right place Then I believe I glued it. The lever is hooked to a hinge that is connected to the inside of the upper sheeting. If you pause the video at 0:47, you can see this hinge at the right. The far right half of the hinge was just duct taped at this filming. It's been permanently glued now.
Hope this description helps some??? If not ask more questions. Here's another video that explains a little more..
