Ustka - Blücher's Bunkers
If you are interested in the military history of Pomerania. The secrets of post-war bunkers and the mysteries of Ustka are interesting, you cannot miss one of the biggest attractions of this port city ... the mysterious bunkers called Blücher's Battery.
Blücher's bunkers are a complex of fortifications built in the 1930s. The bunkers are located near the entrance to the port in Ustka - at the western breakwater. On the dune towering over the surroundings, there is a guiding cannon gun with a caliber of 105 mm. This bunker has two floors. On the top there was a cannon on a rotating base and niches for artillery shells. Below there were crew quarters and corridors connecting to the fire control and command bunker.
An Interactive Bunker was launched in the area of ​​Blücher's Bunkers. It is an interesting exhibition. Mannequins, uniforms, weapons, bunker equipment, multimedia effects and 3D films. All this allows us to get to know the history of the last war better, to see what the bombing or the attack with combat gas looked like.
Blücher's battery is the easternmost element of the Pomeranian Wall. They were built efficiently before the outbreak of World War II. Before 1939, the Germans were afraid of the Polish landing near Ustka. So much so that in the spring of 1939, after building one four-gun 105 mm battery, they looked around where to locate a second, even more powerful battery. Cannons, connected by undergrounds, where, among others, rooms for about 50 soldiers, well preserved to this day.
On the 12-meter dune - the highest hill overlooking the beach - a cannon station of the so-called guiding cannon was located. This bunker has two floors. There was a 105 mm cannon on the upper one. In the center of the plane surrounded by ammunition niches, the steel seat of the cannon's rotary mechanism has been preserved. In the lower, hidden part of the cannon station, there are shelters for service personnel, connected by an underground corridor with the command and fire control bunker, on the upper platform of which there was a rangefinder (rangefinder), thanks to which potential targets were targeted.
The multimedia museum shows the horror of war and the enormous amount of expenditure made by the Germans to make Ustka - never completed - a military fortress. The bunkers have their crew, i.e. realistic mannequins brought from the Netherlands, wearing original Kriegsmarine uniforms.
Currently, it is the largest collection of hyper-realistic silicone figures in Poland. Each room has its own secret. There are virtual fitting rooms, where everyone can change into any military outfit from World War II. There is also a thrill room with loud spatial sound effects, such as a simulation of a bomb attack and thrilling war movies.
A wall with viewfinders is a surprise. Looking at them, as if through a keyhole, the viewer "discovers" various situations from everyday life in the bunker on the illuminated slides and screen. - In this unusual space, you can see a number of multimedia materials in the form of photos and old plans of Ustka, also in three dimensions, to make visitors realize how important the battery in Ustka and the great port built there were for the German armed forces.
Guests will also see a map: "Ustka" alternative history, or what would happen if a real fortress was built here.
The name of Blücher's Bunkers refers to Field Marshal Blücher, associated with Słupsk, the commander of the 5th Pomeranian Hussars Regiment.
Ustka (German: Stolpmünde, Kashubian Ùszcz) - a town in northern Poland, in the Pomeranian Province, Słupsk County, in the historic Western Pomerania. Ustka is situated on the Słowiński Coast, at the mouth of the Słupia River to the Baltic Sea. It is a port city, a health resort with two summer seaside resorts.
Since July 13, 2003, Ustka and Słupsk have been linked by an agreement called Dwumiast. Both cities are connected by rail and bus transport.
In Lędów near Ustka there is a Naval Training Center, which is the main training center for the needs of the Navy.
In the early Middle Ages, Ustka was a Kashubian fishing village belonging to the Słupsk castellan and shared its historical fate with the nearby Słupsk. Currently, the atmosphere of the old port settlement can still be found among the fishermen's houses in the quarter delineated by the streets of Marynarki Polskiej and Czerwonych Kosynierów. The layout of the streets of the medieval village has still been preserved, and due to its historical value, it is under conservation protection.
