  • NetGalley can be a good source of book reviews for authors, but it's not for everyone. In this video, Julie Broad of Book Launchers explains more about NetGalley, a paid book review service, including the positive benefits of the service and the things to watch out for. She also shares details about how to save money on NetGalley services when you choose to work with NetGalley because their primary service is almost $900 which can be a big price to pay for a handful of reviews. If you are wondering if NetGalley would be a good addition to your book marketing plan, then this video is definitely for you.

    Valuable information, as always ☺
    I had heard of Net Galley before but didnt really know anything about them. You explained them great! I've heard of indy authors paying for reviews before launch and they'd put the review on their book at publication (cant recall the review website but think it starts with an R). With that one though, it seemed like you were buying a good review; or at least that's how it came across every time I heard someone mention using them. I do like how you pointed out Net Galley's honest reviewing and the unlikelihood of a 5 star review, it makes for valuable insight into another option for self-publishers 😊

      I really appreciate the detailed feedback. Kirkus Reviews is another one that is common but they are also what I would call 'critics'. They are tough cookies too, but with them you only get one review and you can choose whether to publish it or not.

    Hi Julie, I did receive a four-star review on NetGalley for my book: "The Conscience of An Agnostic." Laurence O'Bryan, at Books Go Social, put the review on Amazon for me. I'm disappointed with how few reviews I've received on NetGalley thus far, By the way, I gave your book: "Self-Publish & Succeed" a positive review on Amazon.

      I can't speak to them from a fiction point ... but we're happy with how it's gone for non-fiction. Have you done a Goodreads giveaway? That seems to be a great way to promote fiction. One of our clients books on horror (Screaming for Pleasure) had the #1 giveaway of the week when we did his whereas the more hardcore business ones do 1/2 or even less as well as that topic did. NetGalley is worth testing though.

    Would it be correct to consider Net Galley the Kirkus of non-fiction?

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  Před 4 lety +1

      Nope - they are different. Kirkus gives you one review by an assigned reviewer. The TYPE of person and the critic level of the review is similar but they only do one and you can choose to publish or not. NetGalley you don't choose to publish or not and you may get a handful or more reviews. They also do fiction I believe.

      @@BookLaunchers @Maizy Kalhoun Maizy with due respect I'll be direct. Your subjective judging of this video, that has nothing to do with the purpose of this video, may be the reason you come across as so negative and unhappy. I bet if you quit deflecting and put in time to learning (instead of finishing before the end), you might make more money and maybe--MAYBE have a better attitude. Maybe I'm being harsh here, but I've seen many people such as yourself chime in like you have. In too many cases there is someone thinking about taking a calculated risk to get their work out there, but people like you put a wall up in front of them.
