    Enjoyed your review. Historically speaking this is George III, the "Mad King," the king that lost the American colonies & is in Hamilton. It's true George and Charlotte had 15 children & 13 survived to adulthood. The current day Bridgerton is called the "Regency Era" because George & Charlotte's oldest son George IV, had to become regent & assume his father's duties as King because of Goerge III's mental incapacity. The fact that none of the 13 adult children had children of their own at this time in the story of Queen Charlotte is true and was a constitutional crisis of the time. Also there is much back and forth between historians but there are writings and descriptions of Queen Charlotte at the time of her being queen that noted her physical appearance as being mulatto and having Negroid feautures. Fun fact when I last lived in London in 2013, I visited the National Gallery and they had an exhibit of Black people in European art, a huge portrait of Queen Charlotte was included in that exhibit.

    I absolutely love discussing with people who watched/read Bridgeton because they say that they know everything about it but as soon as the non Bridgeton tv show or books mentions a name they have no idea. Trust me if you loved Queen Charlotte and met a Bridgeton watcher/reader they get confused on what about it.

    George’s actor is brand new actually! I believe this was his debut role. He’s fantastic. He says so much without saying it.
    14:05 incredibly well-put

    The point is not to prove how easily integration was accomplished. Instead it exposed how superficial and fake Princess Augusta was. She never intended to integrate society, she just wanted to save face on the wedding day because Charlotte was visibly Black and she didn't know that.
    This is much deeper than Bridgerton. Shonda Rhimes wrote this. She doesn't write anything for Bridgerton. It gives you the foundation for how Bridgerton can be so frivolous. No young ladies in the Regency era Bridgerton get sold into marriage unseen like Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury were.
    Also, all the cover songs are Black Queens. Beyonce, Alicia Keys, SZA, Whitney Houston....

      Thanks for this reply, I love the added context. I also missed so many of these songs, I'll have to go back and re-listen.

      @@LetsDiveDeepPod oh no, the only one in this episode was Halo. The other mood music is from Chris Bowers' original compositions. You will definitely notice the crossovers as they come up. Deja Vu and Run the World (Girls) really add to the scenes if you recognize the songs. You haven't missed them. There is also a 20th Anniversary cover of If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys. It was a huge production with an all Woman of Color Orchestra, including the conductor. There is a video for it that is so beautiful.
      There is also a Queen Charlotte podcast with interviews with key characters. Lots of really interesting info.

    The only thing accurate from this is that George and Charlotte loved each other and that Charlotte was described as having a true mulatto face. But there was no racial integration and her looks were mocked in private. Although Charlotte’s granddaughter Queen Victoria made a black girl her adopted daughter so I guess it did happen eventually.

      Queen Charlotte tells the story of how Bridgerton became a successfully integrated society, not our world. Queen Charlotte is set in the Georgian era, but flashes forward to the current Bridgerton timeline after Season 2.
      What they did in Queen Charlotte worked because Regency era Bridgerton is indeed integrated, with none of the racial issues we deal with in our own world.

      Apart from the racial integration, most of the facts in their history is true. And I guess you were there to know that her looks was mocked it private...

    Your audio is fine, but for the show it's way too low. Your views are too low to be concerned about demonitization, so what's the purpose?

    • @LetsDiveDeepPod
      @LetsDiveDeepPod  Před 10 měsíci

      Because Netflix kept taking down the video in draft format for Copyright and lowering the audio for this one helped allow it through
      I think from Episode 2 or 3 onwards I’ve split the tracks better and the audio on the show side is louder 👌
